If true that Gold Coast are looking to give up pick 7 to offload Bowe’s contract, then they must be very confident of getting pick 5.

Now if we have any interest in Bowe and he has interest in us, with our cap, surely we’d do that deal and get 7

Pretty sure he meant confident in getting our pick 5

Bowes + Rankine + 7 for 5?

Sure, I'd do that.

If it’s true that they are going to give away pick 7 as part of a salary dump then I would assume Reid is telling them no way will you get a first from us unless we are in on the dump

They will want some value back for 7 so maybe

7 Rankine Bowes

5 23 and future second (future 3rd as well if they want to give us one of their 30ish picks this year)

Fair call from our end. If we rationalise that Rankine should be worth pick 5 but with a GC 2nd coming back to us in that deal, then what you proposed is akin to us paying GC pick 5 + 3 2nd rounders (2 of our own + the one we don't get from them in a straight Rankine deal) to get Rankine + Bowes on a big salary dump and pick 7

So really, Rankine is pick 5, and the Bowes salary dump + pick 7 to us in that deal is worth equivalent 3 2nd rounders to GC - 2 we pay them and the one they are not paying us

Edit, if somehow we ended up with a haul like that - and keep a pick before port in this years 1st round and retain our 2023 1st....happy days!!!!

If we rationalise that Rankine is worth Pick 10-15, which he is, I would be saying to GC have Pick 5, and we'll take Pick 7 off you along with Bowes and his contract, and give you some picks for points next year, but certainly not 2 x 2nd rounders.

The whole premise of the recent AFL article highlights that some clubs, like GC, are going to get the green light from the AFL to offer deals that are FAR in the clubs favour that will be willing to take on a salary dump.

The deal is not designed to be equitable.
