Damn now we really do need to put O'Brien up forward
It's a bit early to start pretending we're Russia, driving one of these:

There's no point going after a mature KPF until we are a finals side and can grab one as a free agent in their prime
Yeah exactly, grab one in a few years if we can. Bris did it with Daniher, Geel did it with Cameron (though were forced to pay up), Syd did it with Buddy etc

If not, grab Lemmey through the draft this year. Either him, or an elite mid (D’Aloia/Tsatas/Wardlaw) would be fine by me for our first pick

To be honest for me it's all about midfielders

Until we get some quality legs and spread from our midfield it’s impossible to know how good our forwards and defenders can be. It’s Bicks’ great blind spot, he doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with our midfield and that the Crouch, Sloane, Keays and Laird quartet is perfectly fine. Crouch is the only bloke out of those that I’d be wanting to lead at. No wonder our 50 entry strategy is high and long.

Yep another father/son Will Ashcroft and meanwhile this year we most likely won't have access to one of the better athletic KPF prospects in Isaac Keeler through our NGA Academy....would have to go backwards at a rate of knots to fall outside pick 40.

Everyone on this board almost to a man would have had a complete meltdown if we didn't take Fogarty when he slipped through to us....the fact is when they say KPF's take time to develop it's almost always to do with physical development more than any other development issue, that is most certainly not the case with Fogarty, he's been a brick outhouse from day 1.

To bring some perspective to the Himmelberg selection he was taken at pick 51 and was a gangly tall prospect that was goung to need some time to develop physically but that time has long past...it's well and truly shape up or ship out for him IMO.

You don't think 2022 is just about last saloon time for these players, especially Himmelberg?

Fog has kicked 50 goals in his 41 games. After 46 games Jack Reiwoldt had kicked 57 goals, Tom Lynch had kicked 51 goals in his first 37, heeney 60 in 58 games, Fritsch 59 goals in 61 games. Even Allen stat wise doesn’t overwhelm him. 66 goals in 59 games with 2 possessions, a mark and a tackle above Fog per game.

His returns aren’t terrible against other highly regarded players. I am not suggesting he looks as if he will break out like those guys have but he moved up to 1.5 goals a game last year with Walker being the dominate and go to forward. No reason at this stage for Fog not to become a 40-50 goal forward, although he does rely on his efficiency to get to those numbers. Just need him to make that next small step and provide more defensive pressure when the ball hits the ground

Given our ability to poach established best 22 players from other clubs - I would say this isn't a wise long term strategy.

In the past 20 years - I think we have only poached 4 established best 22 players from other clubs. Aging Ronnie Burns / Eddie Betts / Bryce Gibbs / Jordan Dawson.

Guess Carey was more run out of town than poached.

Couple of times on the weekend ave paced players ran off Hately ....seems to lack power in his legs

One Brisbane centre clearance last Friday had Hately actively running away from the player with the ball - was odd.

Re Walker, I’m keen for him to continue playing another couple of years. Pace has never been a weapon so that’s not a problem as he gets older.

Plus I’d love him to finish his career on a positive, if at all possible after what’s happened.

Notice any differences at draft time?

For me with Fogarty it's about the trajectory.

Allen is also playing in a stacked forward line but you can see the improvement. Fogarty looks no different than he did 4 years ago.

If fog under performs again then I'm all in on lemmey. Looked very good in the games ive seen. Scotch people been talking him up for a while too
It's definitely an area of interest, but do we really want the outcome of our rebuild to be a key position forward, a small forward (and part time mid) and another key forward?
We desperately need an ELITE mid.

We need pace and footy brains in our mids and somehow need to find at least 2 elites if we are to be competitive. All other list needs are secondary to this. If we have or can manufacture a high draft pick this year and we pick anything other than the best mid available, I'll be calling for pitchforks and flaming torches to West Lakes.

So you must think not one of Harry Schoenberg, Jordan Dawson, Lachlan Sholl, Luke Pedlar, Sam Berry, Brayden Cook, Josh Rachele, Luke Nankervis, Jake Soligo, Zac Taylor or maybe even Chayce Jones or Jackson Hately can ever become A grade AFL midfielders? I'm a bit more optimistic than you obviously.

It also shows how crappy our development is. OA has got 19 more games, almost a whole season ahead of Fog
