I only know what I've recently read about Wagner so it seems he's been played in the midfield at his previous 2 AFL clubs, without success. He's found a new lease on life as a HB, it doesn't make sense to move him away from there back into the midfield but that's just me.
He's dominated at VFL playing both wing and half back this year and his improvement comes from the fact that his foot skills have improved out of sight. No way they recruit him for depth. He's a very good chance to be a Mzungu level player at least. If they recruit him I'm pretty sure him, Aish and Clark will all rotate wing and half back.

I don't know why you are so keen on him. Rejects like Dow and Dunstan dominate VFL. He's just a decent state league player. They are a dime a dozen. We might as well just pick up Florenca or Rogers from the WAFL.

He is also short and even if he is bulked up he is still a lightweight by AFL standards. Our 2 prime midfielders are smallish. If we are bringing in mature mids for depth (and don't kid yourself, that's all Wagner would be) then they should have some decent size. The mids we have lost were mostly big players except Crowden.

I will be filthy if we pick Wagner up, and will be genuinely shocked if any team does.

Then prepared to get filthy. Wagner's improved out of sight since leaving the afl system. He's now one of the best kicks in the VFL and that was his major weakness last time he played afl.

How much of that would be the role he's asked to play I wonder.

I think Acres improvement was largely due to simply locking him into the one position. Well, first identifying his best position, then locking him in.

I like multi positiinal players, but doesn't suit everyone.

Playing Acres' role doesn't require an elite kick anyway.
Dafuq? We were happy for him to walk because he kicks flour bags. If we can get a player in Acres former role that can lower the eyes and ping a lead on the chest... instant inprovement.

I would have thought his major weakness was ... his weakness. He is listed at 180cm and 74kg. Same size as Henry. Even if he has put on some weight, Henry will do that too. We don't need more small players on the list with average ability.

We aren't arguing on this, we were content with Acres - if a player plays just like that we are clearly content with it. If they are more creative and move the ball quickly then it's a huge improvement for us.

Jason Gillbee

Height: 190cm
Weight: 78kg
D.O.B: 15-05-2004
Leagues: NAB League Boys

  • ANALYSIS

  • SUMMARY

SNAPSHOT: “A genuine utility with enormous running capacity, capable of playing small and tall in each third of the ground.”
There aren’t many prospects who truly suit the utility tag, but Jason Gillbee is certainly one. Having played both sides of midfield and as a medium-tall at either end of the ground, the Bendigo Pioneers running machine is a proven quantity in all thirds of the field.
Hailing from Balranald in the Riverina district of New South Wales, Gillbee made the move down to Bendigo to further his education and football, gaining valuable bottom-age experience with the Pioneers last year before being named among the 2022 AFL Academy intake.
He has taken great strides since, turning out 10 times throughout his latest NAB League campaign en route to Team of the Year honours, and earning selection in the Allies squad. In an one-off quirk, he also represented Vic Country this year prior to the Under 18 National Championships.

He reads like a St Kilda draftee.

He doesn't have average ability by any stretch. He's been talked up by both the Port Melbourne coaches and rival coaches as being by far the best player outside the AFL system. So the people who rate him have actually seen him play.

His skills have improved out of sight but it was his GPS running stats that got people talking in regards to a return to the AFL as they are as good as anyone currently playing afl. Not sure what your issue is with someone quoting what's being said about him by many of the same people who last year were saying Tyson Stengle was worth another shot at afl after working hard on his weaknesses in his year away from the afl system. Mzungu's play at WAFL was described by many WAFL experts in a similar way the year he was drafted. Simply too good a runner to be outside the afl system. Tendai was only one year older that Wagner is now when drafted. Corey shapes as a player if selected that we see as more than depth or we like you said would be looking at a local state league player to fill a depth role.

I want to see Willo playing wing himself.
Break the line and take those beyond fifty shots on goal. Bloke’s made for it.
Prefer him with his 2022 game time to use that passion and fire, continue half back and allow Chapman, Walker to burn on the wings. Be silly not to. Chapman is classy and an offensive weapon

So were you filthy when we selected Barlow?

Can the season start already? Never been so excited for proper preseason to start!

Jackson will be a cult figure for life and will be on par if not surpass the elite level that Sandilands and Darcy have produced.

Corbett will be a better pickup then many suspect, I believe we will see him regularly in the best 23 if not a lock.

O’Meara will replace Mundy beautifully as that big bodied more experienced mid that we need for our young midfield.

Amiss will play every game pending injury and will kick 30+ For the years, guarantee it.

Bring on 2023!

To be fair Barlow wasn’t delisted twice. Menegola and Podsiadly were delisted twice I guess.

Wagner was also a Brisbane academy player. When the bid came they didn’t match. Brisbane also did match a bid for Mabior Chol and didn’t nominate him as a Category B rookie.

These stories happen. Seems bizarre atm but he’ll be the last player added to our list and will get a one year deal.

If the club wants him there isn’t much risk.

If Amiss can kick 30 goals in 2023 we will be in for a good year.

If Jackson is better than Sandilands then he is the greatest ruckman of all time, won't happen imo

You kidding? It's warm, it's beach, BBQ and party season there's so much you can get out and do.

IMO, Footy is just to stop the winter from being boring. Ha.

Not here! It was -5C when I woke up today in the blustery Midwest. I got to find a way to spend Oct-March in Australia and April-Sept in USA...
