I think the key is a club bidding on Davey before Essendon's current pick #22. I don't think they will need points but #22 will have more value to another team over matching a bid with it.

Turning a pick around #55 to #60 next year into pick #43 this year speaks volumes about the expected quality of this draft, perhaps it allows us to dip into the draft another time prior to any bids on our own players.

#30, #43 and #44 is worth 1369 = between pick #10 and #11 = matching a bid at pick #6 and #7

...but I like the excitement of having two picks a row on draft night.

Would cost us atleast north's f2 and our 30

Probably even more tbh, some say he won't pass wce at 12 now

Has been a real bolter
We can’t trade our second (as we have no F1 we need to hold a pick in at least each of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds). We do have two thirds so we can trade one of the two thirds assigned to North and Carlton. I really can’t see a F3 pushing us up the draft order.

30 (which will likely be pushed back to 33) and F3 > might get us to pick 25 but Allen looks likely a top 16 pick. West Coast a big chance of selecting him with pick 13.

We will be allowed to trade without a future forth if we hold two future thirds, but I don't see how we can shake out a future second somewhere to get North's pick out in trade this year for something of value.

I don't want to see us trade that future 2nd (which I will call pick #20) for pick #45 and a future second from Gold Coast (which I will call pick #27).

If Allan makes it beyond West Coast's picks #8, #12 and #20 then we might be able to trade up heavily (as in giving away all our picks) to any of:
#21 - Bulldogs
#22 - Essendon
#23 - North Melbourne
#24 - Hawthorn
#25 - Collingwood

Before West Coast picks again at #26

Bombers will probably have better options than our pick #30 and objectively shitty sweeteners.

I read that pick 43 will come into 40 after F/S & Academy bids.

It improves the Jaeger trade pretty much:

In: Jaeger & pick 40
Out: Meek & F2 (Western Bulldogs)

The name Allan and being Ben's son is pushing his number beyond his real value based on form in the colts and state NAB under 18's i feel.

A few have said this draft is has more quality tall's than most years though they come with ris re longer development time. The younger crop of Hagen, Broadbent and Macdonald all post October birthdays if i'm not mistaken, Lemmey will be a beauty, Adams worth a go. Like to think we have a chance to get Lemmey, Hagan and Adams with Broadbent and Macdonald from the rookie draft...something like that anyway.

Hagan is 15th of October
Broadbent is 2nd of December

Very much late bloomer territory, especially Jackson

Allan is a key forward size midfielder with some speed, which makes him a unique proposition. He could be Spencer White, he could be Patrick Cripps.

I think it might have something to do with that, but based on the rookieme ratings in all their categories (aerial, agility, endurance, speed, strength, ceiling, consistency, contested, disposal), my quick maths has him as equal #2 with Wardlaw at 29/36. Cadman is #1 with 30/36. These are obviously subjective, but it seems he has AFL attributes other than his name.

Don’t we have Norths F4??

In the trade we did with North for Logue/Tucker.

We gave up our own F3 for North F4.

My understanding is we have
F2 (North), F3 (North), F3 (Carlton), F4 (North)

Therefore we can trade F3. I’d be offering the Carlton one up for an upgrade but I doubt anyone will show any interest.

I think we might have that pick. I think you're also right that we don't really have much of value to trade at this point. I'm surprised we were able to swap a future 4th for a pick in the 40s.

North didn’t want the pick. They have another pick early 40’s which they will reportedly swap with Brisbane as soon as the draft starts. They are loading up for 2023 and have a father son that they believe they can get with a late pick either bid match or just selecting him like we did with Benning (or similar to what they did with Archer).

That's their story, but I am surprised another club wasn't interested in swapping a future pick for #43. I do think this draft might fall over early.

Hopefully it's one we look back on in five years as really getting value.

Yep - picks after 50 will be like North’s father-son prospect Cooper Harvey. Brisbane will likely take a pick or two after using a large sweet on their F/S picks, probably redrafting AhChee for eg.

Thought we might do something like this tbh.

Wouldn’t be surprised to us use the picks to trade up but I’m more than confident the club’s recruiters can find some very decent players at picks 30, 43, 44 and 67. They won’t all be decent players of course but I reckon we’ll get at least two that’ll be long term AFL players tbh.

WTFF?! Bring on the cold! The colder the better. Ain't no f***** snakes in the cold! Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow!
Lived my entire life in Australia, Africa and Indonesia. A few bighty things there. But apart from media reports, I know first hand of one single red back spider bite: mild. Not requiring treatment. Everything else is second hand info.

Motor vehicle accidents are another thing.

Trade up for who? Take a punt…
Slow news day

Given the pick swap, the club has a few players in the late second round in mind.

I can hazard a guess, but the words they use are team fit oriented as against best available.

I’m thinking our requirements are in no order.

Ruckman

Small magician for forward pocket

198-205cm Tall forward who likes shoving people around.

Tall 197-200cm key defender who likes to niggle forwards… pinching them is a skill we can get Crowley back to coach!

Speedy winger with sublime foot skills and a wicked side step, and ability to break tackles.

Another Unicorn that can play 2 of the above roles!

I know I’m being boring but I genuinely think the club just wanted an extra pick in the National Draft at a decent range to add depth to the list. This was just the best way of doing it at a low cost. The option is there to trade up one or two spots if we really want.

Some of these mids, HFFs etc. likely to be around the mark for our picks could add depth to the list almost straight away. I’m not talking best 25 or even best 30 players on the list obviously but we could easily see one or two play say 5 games next season.

The picks in the 40s probably mean we can reach slightly for some of the best mature agers in the country. Probably a bit early for Harry Boyd but for Phillips it’s likely right in the ball park.

If you look at our best 22 that were late picks, or rookied, it’s difficult to
Predict who will be judged the best?
With Ryan, Switta, Shultz, Freddy and maybe Treacy all being a huge success.
In the past it was easy with Sandi, Barlow and Walters.
Walls definitely worth every Penny, and picking the best talent till 30 is the easy
part of the job.

I think we'll go best player with our first and then go needs with the others. I agree with your list needs but would extend the forward magician to small or mid size. Banfield is our current first choice mid size forward, or 4th tall, and while he's ok, we need better.

Shifter Sheehan reckons this will be the year that there will be alot of sliders due to no-one watching or playing in the u 16's national carnival.
I'm excited.

My Magician pick is Munkara, just before pick 40…. Sorry Dodo…. And your right not small magician but a mid sized one!

Others in my little bag of goodies are Broadbent for the ruck, Lemmey for the tall forward, and Draper for defender, with Scaife thrown in for Rookie B

If you're into footy karma, we could pick up Munkara with our first pick just shy of pick #40 so they can't match... and we have another two picks before their next chance to bid on our players in revenge.
