Surprised we didn’t take the free swing at El Nour (or Murray) but the club knows better than I.

As mentioned earlier, Carmichael was probably my preferred option so quite happy he got to us. I don’t think anyone would have been surprised if he went after Culley on talent and performance this year so far.

If we don't think he'll make it why spend the time and resources?

Because I said so? Ok, you're right obviously. I'm no expert, and they are.

But you'll forgive me for having zero faith in Hine's judgement and the club's planning when it comes to key position players.

Actually, now that I think about it, maybe we're aiming to develop the stock we have rather than too many new players. Carmichael is in the 22/3 window we need so he makes sense. Besides, we'll have Dean coming up and he's 195cm. We actually have a lot of defenders. Not so much in the key role but we do have defence. McMahon is an option to debut towards the end of the year if we're not playing finals. Our recruiters know more than us so let's hold off on the sledging. We may feel annoyed but give it 2-3 years and perhaps we'll be quite glad we passed.

He looked like a risk worth taking, for sure, but nobody else went for him either.
(Is it his disposal?).
Isn't the most impressive numbers or impact wise, at least over the past few weeks, probably. It would have been age and ceiling that I thought would have warranted a spot. That being said, I'm not a recruiter, so I'm not going with any hot takes.

I watched brief video highlights of both El Nour AND Murray, yet you're suggesting the club might no better?!?

After some of the draft decisions it has made I would be wary with such an assumption ;)
I remember when Hine selected Pendlebury, everyone on Pies boards canned Hine saying we should have taken Xavier Ellis, I think it was, what was he thinking etc etc, ha ha, hasn’t been a bad player old Pendles. Wrighty is now pulling the strings, there is a plan in rebuilding our squad. And Dean, Johnson etc aren’t far away, even Grundy, we needed a big midfielder, just sayin

It remains a non-zero chance of being the case, yes.

Such as the players considered not good enough to play AFL?
That's a bit simplistic of a take. Surely its more about percentage likelihood of being good enough of developing into being good enough to AFL?

Given some of the Cat B rookies we've put on over the years, surely a 6 month $100,000-$200,000 investment (salary + other club resources) seems worth it to have a look at someone who we think will be on our draft board at the end of the year. I'd be shocked if there wasn't anyone.

Hmm, wouldn’t be a Collingwood draft night if we didn’t go for a average mid. Guess he’d fit in well with our other VFL average midfield. Wtf do we not go for talls considering the ones we have got are very ordinary.

Im inclined to agree. A free hit on a guy that you don't have to give more than 6 months to seems like a no brainer.
