Unofficial Preview 2022 Mid-Season Rookie Draft

It's possible but very unlikely you'll find a quality tall at pick 9 of a mid season draft.

Go best available player at that point unless you have a plethora of players already filling that same position.

Get the feeling Carmichael might well have been the one we had our eye on the most.

Nobody took mutaz so obviously I’d suggest recruiters from all clubs know more than us. Happy with our selection. Keep Murphy on the park, get dean and Johnson playing we are ok.
Makes more sense to work with the investments you have rather than what u might get

Surprised we didn’t take the free swing at El Nour (or Murray) but the club knows better than I.

As mentioned earlier, Carmichael was probably my preferred option so quite happy he got to us. I don’t think anyone would have been surprised if he went after Culley on talent and performance this year so far.

Cal said he was in the Talks at pick 1

Actually, now that I think about it, maybe we're aiming to develop the stock we have rather than too many new players. Carmichael is in the 22/3 window we need so he makes sense. Besides, we'll have Dean coming up and he's 195cm. We actually have a lot of defenders. Not so much in the key role but we do have defence. McMahon is an option to debut towards the end of the year if we're not playing finals. Our recruiters know more than us so let's hold off on the sledging. We may feel annoyed but give it 2-3 years and perhaps we'll be quite glad we passed.

Well Said.

People where not happy about us Picking Noble but look at it now

its not a free hit!!!

most of the players would be asking for 18mth contracts.

So its not a "6 months and get rid of them" kind of deal.

They are on our list next year.
They use up a spot and possibly force us to delist a player at years end that we'd like to keep for another year.
It reduces our flexibility at the end of the year.

So the reality of the decision is this:

Is the player better than someone we would draft at the end of year?
What do we gain by taking them now (and thus using a list spot) vs waiting until end of year?

If the club rates this draft (which clearly a lot of clubs are by due to the fact they all passed), then why use up a spot now and have to delist an extra player?

If anyone is good enough.....then they have 6 months to show the same progress and put themselves in the frame for the ND, Rookie, PSS.....

We used 2 picks last year (rightly or wrongly) and that would have hampered us (potentially) in last years draft.

Example: is pick 40 in the ND better than any player we didn't take in the MSD this year????

i know that the experts know everything but it seems strange to me that we couldnt find a player good enough for a list that has tyler brown on it....

I am ok with the one selection. They obviously didn’t rate Mutaz and there wasn’t anyone else worth taking. We come away tonight with a solid midfielder who can play straight away if needs be.
They might rate him, but list spots are going to get tight, particularly if we want to add any recruits.
