Unofficial Preview 2022 Mid-Season Rookie Draft

Pendles was a 3.1 in his draft year I believe, so no, not slower. Anything close to 3 flat is reasonable, sub 3 is quick.

Okay, you got me.

He is indistinguishable from Pendles in terms of speed. Either way, not quick.

Has Derek Hine made a heap of burner accounts on here? All I’m hearing is about mids???? Wtf!!!!! We need a key forward we have since Cloke left and even before. Let’s not hear about “best available” bs. We need talls and we need them desperately. Not a ruckman who can go forward or a “hybrid” forward, no!! We need a Key position forward who can take a pack mark, break open a pack and kick from 50.

So Decca stop posting about mids and look up at the talls.

Of course we need a kpf, just don't think you will find a decent one in the mid season draft. Whereas I think there are some natural ball winners out there were overlooked for whatever reason. So prefer to target that in the mid season draft and use our first selection at the end of year for a quality key position player

I think there is a need for midfielders and a few other positions as well as key position.

Best available isn't a bad tactic considering the limitations of the talent pool and understanding that we have a lot of list needs.

That said I'd be stoked if we found a key position player.

Why waste a pick in the MSD on a vanilla mid when we have other priorities? Eg KPD/KPP

I think our priorities include KPF, KPD, inside mid and medium defenders who can intercept. I'd be happy if we found someone who can play in any of those roles. I've thrown a few names out there that may do that.

Tall stocks are getting so dire with injuries that we might have to use the draft for what it was intended - look at someone who can fill a tall hole for the second half of the season. But you'd only go that way if our win loss gives us a finals chance at the time of the draft.

In a development year it’s important to get your structure right so we can build around it so wins and losses wouldn’t factor in it for mine.

If we're 6 and 4 and need a short term competitive tall to push for finals. I'd do it regardless of age, rather than picking for longer term. The opportunity cost is only an unlikely to make it MSD kid.

i think its pretty clear we are a mid or two down in rotations through the mid field, aside from the fact that Pendles and Sidey are much closer to the end than we might like. Our key forward cupboard is so bare with injuries to AJ and now NK and the fact our 2 candidates as KPF's are playing back in the VFL in the short term we need JDG to spend time forward and we simply couldnt do it today.

Clear to who? I actually think we’ve got a heap of midfield options. They’re just young and inexperienced. N Daicos, McInnes, Macrae, Poulter, Harrison, Murley, and Draper all recruited over the last 2 years as potential mids. Even Chugg has been getting midfield rotations at VFL level and showing promise. I’m not sure how adding further midfield depth helps us. I’d look to address longer term need.

Firstly, I’d be looking at intercept defenders. That to me is our biggest area of need. It allows us to play Pendles and Nick Daicos behind the footy but that’s less than ideal longer term.

Second priority is a lock down small defender. Especially if Crispy remains midfield relevant. Chugg’s the only guy we’ve recruited to that role and depth is scant. Failure to bolster this area will continue to offer opportunity to Madge in the short term and I understand how much joy that would bring to BF.

Have to wait to see who actually nominates, i remember last year some players didn't or waited until they got assurances from a certain club they would pick them and their contract length before nominating. And then there were guys like Newcombe who put a price on their head. Was a bit of dogs breakfast of a concept tbh.

It’s about extracting best value from the MSD. I think that’s less likely to be a KPF.

Abso flipping lutley.

If we want big bodied mids we have Crisp, Manyard, Pendles, Reef, and others in the VFL who already have the training. Put McCreery in there in bursts if we think we need it FFS but we need more mids like a singlet needs a pocket. We need KPF's.

The midseason draft is a free hit. Pick a KPF out of a state league or pick one who was in last years draft but didn't get picked up who is showing form in the U18's. Just don't pick another flipping mid.

What happened to schlensog? How’s he travelling? I don’t think dean is a direct roughy replacement, we need someone with size to cover roughy and the big forwards 1 v 1.
I think he broke his hand earlier this month, so haven't heard much

WAFL is only two rounds in and he has a broken hand.

Not sure when he will be back but they generally don’t take too long.

Alex Rance to the Magpies , done deal
