Port Melbourne VFL prospect Will Reinhold did not nominate for last year's draft but has gathered interest as a possible mid-season pick if granted an exemption. Reinhold, who is a cousin of Brisbane spearhead Joe Daniher, is a tall defender with an excellent left-foot kick who has taken the eye at VFL level.

The 20-year-old has also been used up on the wing.

Hugo Hall-Kahan, who is playing for the Sandringham Dragons as an over-ager this season, would also require an exemption if he wanted to nominate for the mid-season draft after not nominating for last year's national draft.

Hall-Kahan's exciting start to the NAB League season – he has kicked 11 goals in the opening four games – has put him on the map, with bags of five and four goals so far. The medium forward, who is the nephew of former Makybe Diva racehorse trainer David Hall, is a strong mark over his head with an athletic leap. He turns 19 in September.

My brain went to weird places when I read “The medium forward, who is the nephew of former Makybe Diva” before finishing the sentence.

Maybe it’s time we take another look at your boy Briskey Jen?

It's certainly interesting/significant that the club seemingly aren't prepared to write off Nathan Kreuger's season, even though he's having shoulder surgery and they've said he could be out for 3-4 months. The MSD is now only 5 weeks away, and unless something goes wrong with him between now and then it's unlikely they'd change their view and write off his season. So it's still really unlikely we'll be picking up anyone in that draft!

I think it will depend on whether there is someone available that we like and we feel that we’d be in a position to get them. If the answer is yes to those two questions then I’d imagine Freddy will be ruled out for the year.

For sure, that would be a reasonable approach. I imagine if we don't win too many of the next 5 games and finals aren't looking so likely that may also come into their thinking. Given that he's had so many injury issues in his short career the idea of bringing him back for maybe 1 or 2 games late this year (especially if finals looked unlikely) doesn't make any sense, so what we come up with in a few weeks time will be worth watching!

Edit: I really just wanted to post that (previous post) because too many people around here get carried away, thinking "it's a draft, we're going to get someone"! We just might, but we might not too!! We just won't be taking someone for the sake of it.

Pendles was a 3.1 in his draft year I believe, so no, not slower. Anything close to 3 flat is reasonable, sub 3 is quick.
You probably forgot that Pendles come from a basketball background…making him appear faster than he actually is.

Really? Oh wow, I never knew that. I wonder why it’s not mentioned more in the media?

I wish the commentators would talk about it more during the game.

I appreciate we don't yet have a pick in the MSD but it's just a bit of fun to discuss who might be available if/when we do.

If you're following the mature age state league prospects we're coming up against Coburg Lions this week who have a few worth keeping an eye on.

Former Swan Jack Maibum is a 24yo, 194cm, 91kg key defender who many think is the best key defender outside the AFL system.

A couple of others who have been talked up over the years are small forward Shane Lowson and utility Mitch Podhajski.

Quicky kudos to your posts and knowledge on these prospects as I believe you live up far North? 👍
