No point taking a mid in the MSD… we’ve got a bunch already developing in McInness, Macrae, Murley, Harrison (potentially), and the Brown boys… both of whom likely not to make it but are at least improved players at VFL level this year

Plus N Daicos will be a permanent mid soon enough

Take a mature age KPP who can add to our woeful KPP depth

Doesn’t have to be a KPF…

just somebody who we can plug and play down back which allows Moore to switch forward so we’re not so reliant on Cox/Cameron as forwards

If that’s not Fly’s preference…

then a young mid sized intercepting defender is also an area of need
This exactly, we need some KPP depth this year, hopefully bringing in a mature body (ala, Checkers) ready to play, hopefully kicks on and we have a winner for a few more years if not we can release and re-stack next year.

I caveat that by saying if we have a prospect that we can bring in we have high hopes that can develop, look at it but another KPP ready now would be the way I would be leaning.

Yeah i'd go best available too. Though I wouldn't rule out finding a KPP or inside midfielder. Our depth is so young at the moment there are arguments for most areas of the ground. So best available is a good list strategy for us anyway.

Agree. The one area I'm confident with is linking mids and flankers - I think we've got a fair bit of young talent there. It's the contested roles we need to find still or develop from guys who seem more speculative.

Are there any Key Forwards floating around in state leagues? I feel just having a large target would help up so much.

Matt Hammelmann kicked 42 goals in 10 games for Aspley in the VFL last year. Ex-Lion at 197cm.

Tyler Kietel is always talked about but never picked up. He has probably the best pedigree from the state leagues and is prolific at WAFL level. But queries on his professionalism, don't know the truth or otherwise of that.

None of them are genuine inside mid beasts. We are very weak in this area as shown on Anzac day. A ruckman is our 3rd best clearance player.....For me in the msd, choose either a KPP, or a genuine big bodied inside mid

I think it depends where the season is at.
I would draft best available that suits a need.
If there is a ten 10 year player who is a key forward, Key Defender, Small live wire forward, Inside mid I'd be picking the one who the recruiters think as the best potential.

Our key position stocks look thin but we still have Kelly, Cox, Wilson, Begg, McMahon in the 2's and Roughead not too far away. It could be a positive to get games into younger players and the other side of this we could change things up that works to our advantage. Tigers won a flag with no 2nd ruck and one undersized key forward.

I think one of these blokes would be a fantastic selection. Mature age and have performed consistently at state level for a period of time in a role we were struggling in, and even more so now with the Kreuger injury. I'm sure they have their "knocks", hence why they're outside the AFL system atm, but both are 26 years old (not "old" by KPP standards) and if those knocks can be resolved we might find a player. Jack Hayes at the saints (pre ACL) was having a very good season stepping up from SANFL to AFL, can't see why either Hammelmann or Kietel couldn't do the same.

I'm not for a second thinking we'll find an A-grade KPF in the MSD, but if at worst we find someone that can play the role for 6 months and continues to let us play the structure that benefits the team, than that's a good result for us imo.

Is it possible to draft the real Will Kelly?
I’m sure that bloke running around in number 20 is an imposter.

Liam McBean?
He's 27 now, 202cm 98kg

Been averaging close to 3 goals a game in the SANFL for a few years now.

There just isn't much Key Forward talent

Probably better off grabbing the best key position defender and shifting Moore forward.

Moore as a forward will likely offer more than a state league KPF

Plucking another tall defender from the following list is probably not a bad idea in general as we are probably short one or two given Murphy and Kelly look unlikely

Definitely, we are lacking badly in the inside beasts who know how to extract the ball , especially at bounces , aside from Adam’s and DeGoey , the cupboard is very bare , the fact that our magnificent, yet ageing skipper had to go into the middle , and again show the way is there for all to see .

Yes - find the best big-bodied mid in the country

Wingers and forward flanker we’ve got allot of but the half back flankers we’re kind of bear on. Pretty much everyone all the half backs we have are in the AFL side.

Our clearances were absolutely horrible yesterday. There was one passage where Draper just grabbed the ball from the pack and waltzed out of the middle while all our mids just looked at him and did nothing. In the first half it was just one Essendon clearance after another. We seemed to be content to just let them take the clearance every time and try and win it back on the turnover. A bit reminiscent of Richmond a couple of years ago. I’d prefer it if we at least broke even on the clearances. So maybe targeting a big-bodied clearance beast with a long-term future in the MSD isn’t such a bad idea
