If that kick travels 1 metre further Rioli takes the mark and everyone is cheering for what a great mark it was

Conversely, it travels 1 metre less Rowell actually takes a very courageous mark and Rioli cleans him up and gets weeks because he’d have been late to the contest.

As it turned, both players arrived at the ball drop almost simultaneously and Rioli realising he was about to collide braces and turns to protect not only himself but also Rowell

Jumping for a mark is one of, if not the greatest, features of our game, but it also comes with the greatest inherent risk of injury. If you aren’t prepared to give players a bit of leeway when genuinely contesting a realistic marking attempt then it’s time to pack it in

To read and see some of the views you’d think Rioli lined up Rowell from 20 metres away and deliberately ran through him when he did no such thing
How they are allowed to report it as a bump and keep their jobs is ridiculous.

May as well say he was trying to mark a handball if they want to be both wrong and ignorant about the game they report on.

Said it before....
AFL270. Footy from all angles, except the West.
If you talk to our SA friends they will confirm it's just the 90 from the East. (well, south east really so more like 30)

Draper should be a week atleast for striking.
This right here is what the mro should cut out of the game . You punch someone either the gut , jumper punch whatever you get a week no matter how hard .

It would stop players instantly from that kind of bullshit .

None of this insufficient force crap . You punch your gone .

Unless its a spoil of course

Recycling pod content because who will stop me?

So here Channel Nine go, discussing Rory Lobb. Similar setup to Rioli, someone running with the flight and someone running into the ball. Lobb pulls out and doesn’t absolutely shitmix his opponent.

And gets canned for it. Weak effort, not good enough. He jumps and wipes out his opponent? On trial, dangerous, duty of care.

What do these flogs actually want, beyond more content and more comments?

F me, just watch all 360 myself and these two presenters just picked what they wanted to say and just float their own agenda. So easy from the get go they say 3 cases. 1 50/50, 2 gone and 3 easy off.

They say or we like the jury "we believe" what Sloane says. How can they afford that for him and not Willie? Sure Willie has done some off field stuff but never known him on field to be dirty. Robbo saying stuff like he was reaching for the footy? I agree Sloane seems like a good bloke but don't tell me that there was a little frustration and heat of the moment and he did what he did and wasn't going the ball.

They just laughed at west coast arguments as though we are stupid at bringing things in like the reiwoldt mark comparison and yet it's not that different.

Reiwoldt get brought on and doesn't occur to anyone to say what about your mark of the year where you ran back and smashed a pack. Think more people ended up hurt for longer than Rowell was on the ground for.

Are there any good wa based or at least wa representives on footy shows? If they keep this up I'm out. Especially if through this Vic media attention Willie gets overturned and gets a week.

This shot below highlights the difference

Dawson actually has possession of the ball before Lobb arrives. He HAS to pull up as best he can but momentum means he has to go past rather than through Dawson

In days gone by he would have absolutely shitmixed him resulting in Dawson being taken off on a stretcher and the hit making its way into a sensational hits of the 70’s video

Had Rowell taken the mark with that much distance between he and Rioli and Rioli crashes into him, nobody here is going to defend it

Pull up you’re soft, keep going you’re a thug. Can’t win

Jon Ralph has seemingly taken personal umbrage at the Rioli decision on Twitter; almost imploring the AFL to appeal. It’s pretty bizarre the hill he’s seemingly willing to die on.

Do these Vic pundits honestly believe that Willie wasn’t trying to mark that ball that was kicked into his immediate vicinity?

And the supposed head high contact issue, if he actually got him in the head it would have absolutely been lights out á la Venables on Smith’s hip.

But no Rowell laid on the ground holding his collarbone/shoulder for a brief moment and then proceeded to continue on his way to 10 votes from the coaches.

Can’t wait to hear what Whatley and Lyon’s salty takes will be tomorrow on SEN.

They’ll appeal, and they’ll probably get him. The outrage is too high and they can’t not do something if enough people scream player safety.

Don’t let your opponent have it easy, make them earn it you softy.

Don’t be a split second late on your mark attempt.

Throw a punch and if you don’t hit them flush it’s fine.

Player safety is our top priority.

I don't think they will appeal, and I think if they do we will double down on the question of high marks in the game (is it now unreasonable to leave the ground in a marking contest).

The case is really weak, but the message that they want to send is very clear. Better off losing once and drumming up the outrage (and potentially changing the rules after one round) than losing twice and having it proven that a charge for situations like this is a massive overreach.

100% and I thought that was what the new ruling heading into last season, so seems unusual it's gone backwards...

Precedence now to get off for punching someone.

All the Vic floggo journos out in force this morning putting the acid on the AFL to appeal.

Why have they all gone silent on Draper’s intentional whack to the ribs? Oh that’s right he plays for one of their pet clubs
