I think we really only need one more vfl signing and for me it would be a tall kpd. Ideally someone 22-24yrs old that hasn't given up the dream of playing afl. Someone like Sam Skinner was a year ago, recently delisted but with potential.I certainly hope we do. Just on this, it's just Southport, Goldy and Brisbane in the VFL for next year right? I know playing for a development side has its drawbacks, but you would think there are a few options out there. Especially for any Queensland lads who aren't keen on relocating to VIC or another state to play second tier footy.
I believe Dev has shown some very promising traits and hope he gets a good run at it. Does Answerth (if fit) come in for Birch, or will they look at playing 4 talls back as they did in round 3, and almost certainly would have in round 4, except Payne was injured.Cockatoo was able to do some nice things for a quarter once we decided it was time to play him but completely ran out of gas after that.
He's coming from a long way back on that form and I just hope he stayed in training at season's end.
The ones we would be hoping can improve markedly in 2022 are Payne, Answerth if he's fit , make or break year for Ah Chee, Robertson, J berry ,Prior ,Fullarton , Madden and Kiddy. We need a handful of those to go from being fringe players to automatic selections.

I suspect, McFayden, Ely, Prior, Kiddy, Answerth, Payne, Fullarton, Dev, Madden, Berry, Fort (and at least 1 of the new draftees) to get a fair amount of game time in the trials. Lets hope for the improvement of the team, a couple of them show considerable improvement for 2022. However, the caveat is that some of them get some consistent game time in the 1's and hopefully COVID does not impact on what looks like a strong reserves comp: I believe there is at least one spot in the backs and one in the forward line that is up for grabs. Playing Payne in the forward line for the semi, might be an indication that he trains with the forwards, at least until Hippy comes back. I would rather he stay in the backs as I think with no injuries he has some upside and can be a long term back for us.
Obviously depends on how Wilmot progresses but I might have one or two in front of him, if there was an injury.If everyone is fit for the beginning of the season, my back 7 would be;
Starcevich Adams Gardiner
Coleman Andrews Rich
Bench: Prior
The club was pretty clear that they see Wilmot as Rich’s successor, so I would imagine that if there are injuries later in the year to a small defender, Wilmot probably gets a run.
I can't argue with any of the backlines put up and with guys like Ah Chee not mentioned I take it all as a positive sign. Could be some serious competition for spots if Payne , Madden and Prior improve as expected.Obviously depends on how Wilmot progresses but I might have one or two in front of him, if there was an injury.
My starting back 7 is similar, but I went for Payne as bench just over Answerth, as he is versatile enough to play on mid to tall forwards, but suspect throughout the year Answerth, Madden and Prior get games. I am confident in our fringe players that there is some opportunity for rotations depending on opposition match ups each week.
It was clear to me last year that Ah Chee's best position is at half forward flank, and he was brought to the backline to cover injuries. Perhaps the club thinks the same way.I can't argue with any of the backlines put up and with guys like Ah Chee not mentioned I take it all as a positive sign. Pretty much what I have said all along. Small forward or forward flank. Going to be hard for Ah Chee to crack a healthy best 22.It was clear to me last year that Ah Chee's best position is at half forward flank, and he was brought to the backline to cover injuries. He is the opposite to Kiddy Coleman.Pretty much what I have said all along. Small forward or forward flank. Going to be hard for Ah Chee to crack a healthy best 22.
We should have good depth out to 30’ish. Really the main weakness will be key forward depth, but we could always go a smaller forward line.
I was thinking the exact same thing. However, l think it will be difficult for him to get into the team. He is clearly a midifleder, and while he has increased his running to potentially play a bit more outside their are probably other better runners out there who play the role better. Not sure if it means anything but for a guy who has gotten a lot of coverage over his career, Ely has been much more frequent in the clubs social media over the last few days.
Maybe he is just a real pre-season leader

Why do you believe that?I think he could genuinely challenge for Robbos wing role this year if he stays fit. No guarantee to get it, but if he can challenge Robbo we'll be much better for it.
If fit, Gardner is a certain lock in the back 6.My back 7 would be:
Starcevich Payne Adams
Madden Andrews Rich
Coleman
I have a couple of different guys in there but I think that would be the unit that would be strongest defensively whilst allowing for quick transition on offense. Payne allows Andrews to play more loose and Madden has the pace to cover over cracks that appear from time to time and I am hoping would be greenlighted to use his attacking run more.
It is interesting that the team has consistently said how much they want run in the side but the game plan has very very little scope for it to be actually used. So the guys who can get it and run or get to space on the outside are virtually never used because we go long down the train tracks 95% of the time.
Why do you believe that?
I think he'll find it tough, we've got a lot of options that can play on the wing now that probably should be ahead of him. I think his best bet is overtaking Matho as inside mid depth.I think he could genuinely challenge for Robbos wing role this year if he stays fit. No guarantee to get it, but if he can challenge Robbo we'll be much better for it.
If I recall correctly there was a bit of hype around Ah Chee moving to the wing last pre-season, can't remember why he was moved back to the half-back but I'd like to see what he could do with an extended run on the wing if he has the tank.He is the opposite to Kiddy Coleman.
Kiddy is a much more natural defender and AhChee is a much more natural forward. Both have been trialled in different positions but most of us have settled on Kiddy being a defender but AhChee is yet to solidify his position. Probably in both the coaches and Big Footy minds.
