It's going to be wet for this one jab, that nullifies the height a bit, be interesting to see which way the filth go in selection. With Harry Pittonet McGovern out and Marchbank a few weeks away every side we play knows going in that we are 'short' and it will be up to the Carlton midfield to win the game and up forward a lot of pressure on 'the smaller players to win the ground ball game.
I see little scoring power difference between the sides and if pushed would say that Collingwood have the advantage in more experience and enough class to finish any easy entries.
Defensive capability is pretty even with Collingwood probably one of the best intercepting defenses in the game - both Howe and Moore are outstanding marks. Their smaller defenders are no slouches I like both Quaynor and Noble. Ground ball gets and contested forward pressure from Carlton will largely determine how effective Collingwood's rebound game is allowed to be - I imagine that Martin if fit will be in to provide some kind of marking capability as a secondary target with SOJ being the relief ruck - Charlie is going to have another battle against multiple defenders all day.
So pretty clear for me where the game will be decided and that is between the arcs - and it will be a question of which team makes the most of their possessions as as well which team gets the most over 4 quarters.
Should be quite a battle - Carlton going in as favourites doesn't mean much. I'm thinking as experienced as the Collingwood mids are- there is probably a bit too much firepower in the Carlton midfield and a Carlton under Voss has a lot of teh younger kids playing well enough to hold their own.
Can see Voss and McRae wanting to beat each other badly here, becoming a fierce rivalry in time only adding more fuel to Carl v Filth.
Which all points to great viewing for us supporters, who are longing to see a bit of mongral, chomping at the bit for this one.
