The thing is, we smashed in the middle but then sprayed it going forward. Couldn’t hit a target to save ourselves after 1/4 time. If we’d hit targets and finished our work we would have won that by five goals.

Instead we handed them the turnover ball.

Still, we won. Frankly that’s all that counts.

Had 64 forward entries, compared to 46. That's pretty comprehensively in our favour. Probably shouldn't have been so close at the end.

Well the champagne football was like a craft beer.

But we don't know what to do when we're ahead yet.

Their system also works and is less reliant on individual brillance. It'll win some finals.

But ours continues to hold up against form teams and we're still learning.

Needed a plan B today, when they started flooding our 50 and double/triple teaming the big guys we should have been chip passing around the arc and taking shots from 50, instead of still bombing it into the spot.

At the very least it would have made them adjust a winning formula.

yeah for sure. our running to present options for the kicker fell away big time. we saw jsos continue to present and link up between defence and forwards. needed more players helping jack. his energy levels were ok it seems.

I went to the game with three Hawthorn supporting mates. As they are my most hated side I fully appreciated the fact that we scrapped home by one point in a game we really should have lost

Think that this was a good thing, it won’t make the boys complacent.

So proud of them for sticking fat … last few years that was easily a game we would have lost.

JSOS take a bow …. gotta love him and is making his family’s legacy stronger and stronger. Thrilled for him.

We we’re completely off our feet by the end so fitness seems to be an issue. Hopefully we learn a shed load from this game …. what a cracker! First 40 minutes were pure electric blue.

That was my take coming out of the game too.

He was the physically and mentally strongest out there when all were on fumes only. Unbelievable.

Many fumblers were fumbling, while Doc, who was a fumbler last year, was strong and sure.

He's back to his best.
