I wonder if we could try TDK down back. He's not ready to full time ruck and his forward craft is woeful. Being at the game on Sunday he really has no clue inside 50 aside from his athleticism.
We're missing an athletic tall defender without Jones and maybe playing with the ball in front of him would help.

Perhaps would need a few games in the 2s in the role though
It could be worth trying, I don't see why not.

Can you bring up his record against Jayden Stephenson please?

At both Collingwood and North Melbourne ;)
People want Jones back how he go against buddy -- weltering to that turd from north-- Plow locks down ok - sometimes in replays he was maligned for positioning when it was mostly due to other defenders namely jones (team playing a one on one ) stuck in the middle of play leaving a two on one or punching balls down his opponents throat -- plow as a lock down is more reliable than Newman - maybe play Saad as lock down run off - stocker can cover when he goes for a run and exit both Newman and plow ?- players have there deficiencies but they also had a lot of pluses to get to where they got ..

O’Keefe said in the latest ‘coaches corner’ video that he’s worked really hard on his kicking and has been typically going about 85-90% (or something like that).

Would have no issue with Parks playing the McLovin role this week. Even if they played Finlayson whose good overhead, I’d be confident that Parks would have him covered. His ball use has improved and he’s mopping up everything that comes his way. Also, as O’Keefe says, he is courageous.

Cottrell has been playing good footy. Whether that's going to translate to better footy than who he might replace is another question.

Another one who has improved markedly. His kicking especially. Would have had him as a delist at the start of the year, but you can see he’s put in the work. Will never be a champion, but if he can bring his VFL composure and running patterns to AFL then he provides genuine depth.

Club giving Parks a wrap...a sign of selection this week? Talk about him being reliable, courageous in the air and tidy by foot.

All this debate about Plowman...the thing is the balance of our defence doesn't work when we replace an intercept marker like Gov who is also good offensively by foot, with a dour defender like Plow. Plow doesn't really offer any intercept ability, this enables the opposition to dictate whereas I think Gov was already starting to make the opposition think about where to go with their ball movement to avoid him.

Parks is better in the air, puts his body on the line continually, is in good form and is younger with a higher ceiling. Would like to see Parks as our third tall for the next few weeks until Gov comes back.

The trend of Plow doing a good job against the dangerous smalls isn't just based on Gray. These are the stats in games when Plow was playing.

Tom Papley --> Last 3 Games : 3 goals

Charlie Cameron --> Last 3 Games : 5 goals

Michael Walters --> Last 3 Games : 3 goals

Robbie Gray --> Last 3 Games : 6 goals

So his worst record is against Gray - and this is a list which includes Papley and Cameron who imo are the two best small forwards in the AFL (and have been for a few years). Also take into account that we were putrid during these seasons so the ball was going in with little delay from our midfield.

Late to the party but Plow is 191cm. Papley 178, Cameron 183, Walters 177, Gray 183. Why is he standing them in the first place? Newman/Saad types should get these blokes.

193cm. Still think he does a better job on the smalls than the talls. But it's a team game, we're not relying on him to blanket one player, he's part of a defensive unit. And the performance of that defensive unit is so dependent on what happens upfield too.

Haha you want Newman to defend? Our smaller fellas are just after those sweet sweet 'metres gained' stats.

Not really, but it do feel like it does sometimes.

Tbf you get an all Australian gig as a backman based on disposals and nothing else

The old ask the selector why he got an all Australian spot as a backmen 'he averaged 25 touches, 6 marks and 10 score involvements'......how many goals kicked on him?......answer ''

U name the one single opponent that Jones could not beat regularly and that's about the only one that had that record on him.... Look at Carlton's record in the year[2020 ] he was knocked out against North Melbourne before and after.... We could not win a game without him because he was that important to our structure... He had the intercept game he also was tremendously fast in closing down an opponent, And he set the tone with courage and his desperation ... The Carlton match committee and recruiting team would have been back in an instant.... And suddenly our team would look absolutely complete.

Let’s keep it real with Jones.

What you said there about desperation, fast closing speed, setting tone and courage is all true. It’s also relevant if you watch closely that he could take up terrible in between positions defensively and get caught in wrong spots leading to opposition goals. He was terrible at pinpoint spear passes into the middle of ground for turnovers. Actually, I worried every time he kicked the ball due to his poor decision making.

The truth about Jones is he is an enigma of brilliance and stupidity all rolled into one. Crazy attack I love. Crazy closing speed intercept marking I love. Being caught 25 metres in between players because he didn’t look behind frustrated. Kicking it straight to opposition down the middle really frustrated.

Would I take him over young and omac…yes. But the net effect is very slight due to the goals Jones helped ship. Not goals given up to one on one contests but goals to kicking and field position stupidity. Having said that I’d take him back due to the aggression. It’s why Stocker is so important right now. We have a back line list of players who love a handball receive.

If omac and stocker play I don’t miss Jones So much.

I can't see out of our current backs who else can do this sort of thing.
at 16 mins Richo comment '' ...not just intercept marks in the league he takes but the best contested intercept marks in the competition....''

Why are you (and many others) so quick to jump on Young? He isn't Weitering or Jones, but he provides just as much as OMac does and has youth and a non-broken body on his side.

I would be persisting with him.
Pretty simple, McDonald did a solid job against Richmond's top KPF, Young was smacked by their now jettisoned depth.
You don't put a line through Young of course but he's a long way off being considered a reliable option.
