Collingwood winger Caleb Poulter is still without a contract for 2023 in what his manager Tom McConville describes as a “not ideal” situation.

Poulter played 11 games in his debut season in 2021, after he was taken with pick 30 in the 2020 draft.

But the 19-year-old struggled for game time this year as the Pies rocketed up the ladder, only featuring once in 2022.

Poulter’s lack of game time has left him in a precarious position during the ongoing period, with Mac’s Sports Promotions’ McConville saying his priority was ensuring his client was playing regular senior football in 2023.

“It is an interesting position for him to be in at the moment,” he said on AFL Trade Radio’s Trade Exchange.

“It’s not ideal to get to this stage of the year and not have a contract there, Collingwood is doing a lot it seems (in the trade period) and trying to bring a few people in.

“He’s in the position where he showed a lot in his first year, then probably found it hard this year behind (Josh) Daicos and (Steele) Sidebottom.

“We’re just waiting on that one, our priority is to have him playing league footy next year. Whether it’s at Collingwood or wherever, he’s hellbent on being on a list.

“We’ve had a few conversations with a few people, It’s not too concrete at this stage and there’s a lot to play out. We’re waiting by the phone and seeing what comes of it.”

Poulter has been linked back with a move to his home state of South Australia, with Channel 7 Adelaide reporting that the Crows had shown some level of interest.

Why are Collingwood so quick to get rid of him though?

If they haven’t even offered him a contract to clearly aren’t bothered to keep him

He hasn't been delisted as of today when the Brown F/S's were delisted along with several others last week.

Straight swap for Frampton?
Think we would consider it if we had another list spot.

Perhaps the hold up on the Frampton deal is whether we trade out another player like Crouch & this becomes an option.

Latest on Poulter is he'll be part of a deal for Fiorini to the Pies, I take it he then lands at the Suns.

What's this about Cooper Stephens maybe being on the way out?

Mutineer you kept track of how he's gone at the Cats since the broken leg?
Would be a strange move considering they stuck with him while he only played a handfull of games in the VFL before getting injured again in 2021 and no games in his 1st year, finally gets some continuity in 2022 and debuts in their AFL team. Played pretty bloody well in that game against the Crows this year.

Don't know what the deal is with the broken leg these days remembering he went down early in his draft year so then missed basically 2 whole years of footy.

I think just speculation based on Bowes, Bruhn and 7 coming in.

Montagna suggesting clubs like Ess and Adel should be having a crack at him.
Saying he looks like falling further down their list after already being behind Menegola, Parfitt, etc and Bruhn, Bowles and Henry coming in.

my post had no hate aimed at Doedee it was purely to point out to bring in someone such as the Horne [which we won't] or any other of his level we must get over "keeping" everyone we like - we can't offer up spuds that can't get a game in a bottom 4 side and hope to spark interest.
All good. My post wasn’t aimed at you either. Just a general vibe I’m getting

Fox Footy are now reporting that Adelaide are interested in Poulter referencing Adelaide 7 News story from 3 weeks ago.

That’s a stretch. They are reporting that Gold Coast are likely to get him in the Fiorini deal - and commented that Adelaide were linked a few weeks back. That original article was pretty well squashed last week.

2 hours ago released an article headlined “Crows keen to lure Poulter back to SA”
Hardly a stretch.

Poulter to the crows only happens if Matt Crouch goes to Collingwood which only happens if they can't get Tom Mitchell.

Effectively Frampton and Crouch for a future 3rd and Poulter
