Doedee gives me VB vibes as well.

i agree with comments above.

If Doodee is to be a chance to be Captain then he has to sign soon. You can't have
your Captain out of contract at season send as a free agent weighing up offers from other clubs.

On-field he had the players believing they could do anything, especially when he was firing.

Off-field he was still a bit cliquish, which isn't the best thing for a Captain.

I predicted this would happen during the season when it was obvious we were stupidly playing an injured Doedee despite having Worrell raring to go in the sanfl.

Doedee is a very good player when fit.

Not really I’m looking past that , it’s just recognising a few things overall that need to be considered when selecting a captain in comparison to Dawson.

Will be All Australian next year
Crows supporter as a kid who was drafted elsewhere but chose to come to us .
Less injury risk
Zero flight risk
Why did Rankine specifically mention Dawson as being of huge support in his move home and not Doods ? , because he is a natural leader who chose to seek out a player to assist in something he he’d just been through . Captain stuff !
Positional flexibility , with a game in the balance you can throw him anywhere to win it for you . Captain stuff !

Requested ongoing 2 year contracts when offered longer terms taking him to free agency
which he is entitled to do so to maximise his earnings , just as we are to trade out of contract players.
Max an ideal replacement for Doods , so include Doedee in a trade deal to get a need like Brennen Cox.

Dood’s courage and ability are without question but he is now behind Dawson in choice of captain imo.

It may be the best thing for the team for Doedee to leave as a free agent and to get compensation - putting that aside though, he seems a far more natural leader than Dawson.

Dawson seems much quieter and more introverted. I guess it may not be like that within the club though.

Doedee's form dropped as his shoulder injury became worse. And because we are always risk averse, rather than bring in Worrell, we kept playing Tom which was to his and the teams detriment.
I have it on good authority that one of the games we probably all remember as one of Doedee's worst (he kept dropping the ball), he in fact couldn't feel his arm. The injection he was getting for his shoulder impacted his nerves and he couldn't feel his arm or hand on that side.

So our decision makers at the club are even worse than we thought?? Given Worrell probably played SANFL that week.

I have no problem if Dood is made captain but I don't think it is such an easy decision given Dawson's arrival and impact.
