Surely we can nab one of the Giants mids that is apparently on the table due to salary cap problems, I wonder what it would take to get Tom Green over the line, I like the limited snippets I have seen of him.. does he gut run defensively dlanod ? Or does Hopper offer more? Taranto?
Green isn’t up for trade.

The Giants have made it pretty clear who’s available and who isn’t.

Ralph linked Bobby Hill to Collingwood in that video.

I definitely agree we need a midfield shake up and would be great to land a decent mid via trade, however, I also think we need to improve our back 6. I’d be targeting Griffin Logue and hoping for a midfield rejuvenation from Dev and Ashcroft.

Who is Logue replacing in defence?

He’s a third tall, not a genuine KPP.

Our problem in defence is the (potentially) early ageing of Andrews kneed and Gardiner’s shoulder/body.

Gardiner, Adams, take your pick. He's better than a third tall too - see his excellent job on Jeremy Cameron earlier this year.

I suspect we were floated purely because Colin Young is his manager so may as well link any club possible to increase the $, but I'd be keen.

Surely we have to play hardball with McStay and tell him that since he is not planning to be with us long term, we really need to be getting games into someone who will be a longer term player.

We have been nice guys for too long - trying our best to accommodate players wishes (which is not a bad thing) but getting taken advantage of when the likes of McStay just waltz around.

Compare that to Peter Bell who clearly comes off looking like a dic at the trade table playing hardball (eg telling Lobb he is staying, playing hard ball with us on Neale and a few others) but it has served Freo well - yes Bell looks like a dickhead but he is prepared to cop that on himself to serve best interests of his club. That's true leadership right there.

I think the reality is we are probably lucky to off load McStay in the context of our forward mix. I know he works hard most of the time but has never scored more than 30 in a season and at 27 doesn't seem like he will. I have always been wary of him as when played back early in his career he looked totally disinterested, as he can up forward at times. Already seems to have checked out emotionally.

I'm happy if we can get a compo pick for him in the second round and then maybe offer it, or something later, to WC for Jack Darling. Got the feeling after the CV19 debacles earlier in the year he's burn a few bridges over there, is only 3 years older than McStay, has great forward pressure and premiership experience. Good lead up forward with experience who won't just get in Joe's/Hippy's way.

Green is their future, they're moving on Taranto and Hopper to keep him. They have needed to rebalance their midfield for years, and hopefully they're finally biting the bullet. I've said many times that Hopper would be the one to target. Taranto is basically Keays but with better burst and better marking. Hopper is Tom Green lite if he can stop double grabbing loose balls and starts handballing to players' advantage.

Salary cap is tight I don't think we can recruit logue and a decent mid we'll have to choose one.

Oh how I loved the West Indies cricket team back in that era- was more a Richie Richardson and Clive Lloyd fan but Carl Hooper and Courtney Walsh were such cool cats that I loved to - in fact all them were awesome :thumbsu:

No one in any sport beats Viv Richards for elite coolness.

Obviously four years is about dollars, but maybe also a bit about taking the will he/won't he leave pressure off, and maybe also ease pressure on performance if development stalls (which it often does) - stretches out the time frame to be a superstar

Huge danger signs with this 4 year deal for Will Ashcroft.... gives him 2 years on the list with baby brother Levi(2024 draft) before they both head off to a big Melbourne club in the 2026 trade period.

I am terribly concerned about what could happen in 2026, will be on tender hooks until Levi comes out publicly to say he will also be wanting a a 4 year deal straight up. Why the silence from Levi on this matter😡?

Is it possible to draft Will and then threaten to send him to the PSD if his brother doesn’t commit immediately

Chatter starting up in a few circles about McStay and what the thinking of the Pies is in trying to get him on board. Doesn’t exactly fill a gaping hole and potentially stunts the growth of some of their young players. Let’s get this done and make off like bandits.

A 2nd round pick isn’t making off like Bandits and it leaves a hole in our forward line

Shut down Franklin too. Plays quite taller than his height. Does a decent job.

From the time this trade started weighing him down, he plays like there is a hole in our forward line anyway.
