Damo weighs in

IF ..

the Lions are clearly in a stalemate right now in negotiations to get Josh Dunkley on their books ...

THEN ...

I'm still backing them to get the deal done. When really good players go public with a desire to get to a really good club, it happens.

Agreed Damo, we are a really good club and we get deals done.

IF ...

the Dogs are playing ultimate, and maybe silly, "pony up" hardball with the Lions on Josh Dunkley ...

THEN ...

surely they won't dare complain if the Dockers play ultimate, maybe silly, "pony up" hardball against them on Rory Lobb.

Oof! Right between the eyes. Dare I say it... scathing...

Zorks was on Qld radio this morning and said they’re hoping to get the Dunkley deal done by 5pm today 😂

Zorko has his fingers in all the pies
whatever oppo supporters reservations about zorko are i hope they at least recognise that hes an A grade troll

he would be a great poster if he was on this site

Dons werent offering what hes worth then so we kept him. We have options if Lions go down a similar route
Options:

1. Lose him for nothing and send a message to the comp that you let emotion get in the way of reason which bodes well for future trade negotiations. Also a great message to your current playing list that 'we couldn't give a stuff how good a servant you've been to our club and that you're out of contract' we will shaft you.

2. Take 15 and a future first to the draft at the expense of second round picks (rejected).

3. Take future first and 21.

So let me get this right
The original offer was Pick 15 & future first for Dunkley and picks 30 and/or 39.
And the dogs rejected this. WHY?

So we then traded pick 15 for something better to help our overall situation.

When it's all said and done Bulldogs need 21 to satisfy Frem - they will need to 'pony up' to Freo for a player that they have been after for almost a year and IS in CONTRACT (unlike Dunkley).
Freo need pick 21 for Jackson (pick 13, future first and 21 to Melb)
Melb then need pick 21 for Grundy. Coll are not accepting 27 and want a pick in the 20-25 range.

So its really up to the Dogs - how badly do they want LOBB??
As Freo are not accepting pick 30 and rightly so.

Let's hold our nerve.

As it stands
  • We lose out on getting a vg player that has selected us (but in actual fact we haven't lost anything b/c we never had Dunkley to start off with)
  • Freo lose out on getting Jackson but keep Meek and Lobb (but in actual fact they haven't lost anything b/c they never had Jackson)
  • Collingwood lose out on getting salary cap relief and the opportunity to bolster their midfield (but in actual fact they get to keep Grundy)
  • WB on the other hand will lose Dunkley for nothing and lose out on getting Lobb.

I wonder who has most to lose?

And ffs, I don't want to hear about what Richmond gave up for Taranto - not getting any late draft picks back is there issue and should not be a precedent for any other deal. I think Richmond have now found out that they were screwed beautifully by GWS in separating the 2 deals.

Exactly right. Another teams stupidity (Richmond) isn’t a factor in how we negotiate a trade

21 + 25 downgrading to 30 and 39 costs us 500 points from this year's draft. If the Dogs are only using a handful of picks, that seems reasonable. If the Dogs are planning on taking more than the minimum (e.g. 13 + 25, with 21 going to Freo for Lobb), it starts being less interesting for them.

The Dogs have also said they would be prepared to discuss some Lions players as part of the deal, but Brisbane only wants to include Rhys Mathieson at this stage.
So essentially we’re offering 21, F1 and Mathieson.

Not unreasonable for us to ask for late picks back.

I'm also thinking should we line up our seniors to get delisted and get picked up again to make this all work.

Zorko, Rich, Lyons - delist them all off to generate free spots to cover all picks.

Complete the draft period and sign them all back again as delisted free agents.
I see what you’re doing there. 😂
