I agree with this 100%. I strongly doubt any club will pick him againts his will. Why would they want a highly paid player who will arrive and be plotting their move to Brisbane from the get go? Dogs can let him go to the PSD and what’s the bet he ends up with us anyway…… for free! That’ll show em’

Problem is dogs are ahead of us in the PSD so would just pick him back up anyway

Noticed a lack of ‘bent over’ and ‘get out the lube’ in this thread, disappointing
Is it too much to hope the that internet has matured to a point where anal rape isn't as funny as it used to be?

Would be ironic refusing his salary ask earlier and only to accept it as part of a preseason pickup

I'm late to the party with all of this. But since when did this whole 'operating in good faith' become a thing?
I thought the whole point of trading was getting the best people you could get in while giving up the least you can.
That's why people get paid money to do the job. That's why people get fired for being poor at it. And we wouldn't be grading teams at the end of trade period on how well they did

I’m not sure what our plan is for picks 55 & 56.

I don’t believe Hawthorn will accept either or both for Gunston. They should be eyeing off 48. (and yes I know they could have lost him for nothing).

Maybe Adelaide might need them to match the bid on their father son kid. Send us back a future third round pick.

Not sure they did refuse his salary ask did they? Reports are they effectively offered a five year deal on substantially similar money to that offered by us (and Port). Almost certain he wouldn't do the same deal if they forced him to return anyway. As others have said, one year deal and then moves on.

Would they though? A lot of their supporters think they won’t. If they withheld him againts his will for what would effectively be the third time (trade request 1, trade request 2, PSD lottery) that would be a horrible move. The Dogs players wouldn’t want it, they would be sympathetic to him. He would sign a 1 year contract and come to us the next year for free.

That would be one of the greatest missteps culturally and player management wise is a long time.

Can’t see the dogs being that vindictive, if they are - they are being ran by overly emotional, peanuts.

Player movement is here, they need to get over it, take some nice picks and move on.

But why would they take a deal that is unders whilst at the same time strengthening the team of one of their finals competitors.

They'd be better off not to get anything for him and send him off to North in the PSD.

Lol, seriously, you can't make this stuff up.

Counterpoint: Luke Beveridge is at the helm. I could 100% see them being that vindictive.

Bevo doesn't miss.

Tom Morris talked shit, a day later he's fired.
Chris Fagan got Dunkley to request a trade, a day later he's stood down pending an AFL investigation.

Don't **** with Bevo. He'll take your job too.

If you listen to all the Dogs supporters in trade thread and on their board - its Dunkley demanding too much salary and Bevo advising him even in BnF how the wealth needs to be shared amongst the group. Their feedback is we are paying $100k more hence Dunkley chose us and they were refusing to match it.

Based on that premise, yeah it'll be funny if they choose to accept Dunkley's salary and terms in PSD after 2 weeks of trade drama.

15 is not in play. It’s long gone and not coming back (at this stage).

My trade was F1 & F2 to the Giants for 18 & 19.

We can then send 18, 19 & 21 to Bulldogs for Dunkley, and 39 coming back our way seems reasonable.

Yeah the higher the first two picks go, I'm not too excited about giving them another early 20s pick without getting anything in return.

I don't know if 39 coming back alone gives us enough in terms of points, if it does then I'm not too fussed.

I don’t see the hawks being interested in multiple picks that low either. Hopefully can push one of the lower picks through, as the draft generally opens up there.

If we were able to get Gunston for one of those picks, we could potentially look at trading 56+48 to the bombers for 42, which those 5 selections from 36-42 carry 2400 points.

I don't see us offering much for Gunston
56 & 73 should get it done thats 203 points
If Dogs want 48 (302 points) then we lose 100 points so not the end of the world

Doggies forget how we gave them Schache for nought ! A top 2 draft pick without the carry on we are seeing
Just so he could be near his mum

What comes around dogs
To be fair to the Doggies, there's a reason why we took a second round pick for Schache. No club would off offered a first round pick based on what Schache produced. In hindsight now, Schache is worth a 3rd to 5th round pick.

Not necessarily. This may be the case in zero sum games, but there are genuine win/win scenarios, given different needs and objectives. See us and Gold Coast - we get more points for matching this year, they get more points for matching next year, Tom Berry gets to his club of choice for more senior opportunities.

Even if it were a zero sum situation, you also need to judge how much you're going to push and how much ground to give. Trade periods do not exist in isolation. You are trading with only so many clubs and list managers year on year. Even if you can screw over another club on a specific trade, it might come back to bite you another time.

In other words...doing good business basically. Maximise your returns, but maintain good relations for future dealings, and find mutually beneficial solutions where possible.
