Yeah the higher the first two picks go, I'm not too excited about giving them another early 20s pick without getting anything in return.

I don't know if 39 coming back alone gives us enough in terms of points, if it does then I'm not too fussed.
Picks back from Bulldogs are very valuable. I get why we want them pretty badly.

The Lions currently have 3621 points.
If pick 21 is traded to the Bulldogs this pick is worth 878 points.
This leaves us with 2743.
Assuming Ashcroft did go pick 1, this costs 2400 points (3000 less 20% discount).
Leaves us with 343 points.
Needing points for Fletcher, this is why we are keen on Bulldogs pick 30 and 39. Otherwise looking to go into deficit using 2023 picks.

Bidding for Fletcher:
Take the 343 points surplus calculated above.
If Fletcher went pick 15, this requires 1112 points. (Don’t think he’ll go this high but assume Cal Twomey in the ball park).
This leaves us 769 in deficit.

The deficit reduced or eliminated if we can get 1 or 2 picks back:
30 worth 629
39 worth 446
Combined value 1075.

(We have cats 23 R2 and 4. If bulldogs don’t budge lions could be involved in more pick swapping).

Problem is dogs are ahead of us in the PSD so would just pick him back up anyway
No chance he'd get to the dogs in the PSD.

Good player. Has asked to be traded out of the dogs to multiple different clubs over the years (so Brisbane is not the be all and end all - out of the dogs is the desire). He fits in to our salary structure, so would fit in most non-finalist salary-wise. If in a year he doesn't want to stay, you got 1 year of good player + a first round pick (minimuml), all for the low cost of a PSD pick.

I'm yet to see a valid reason for a lower club not to draft him (unless doesnt meet their needs). He'd get drafted by 6 different clubs in the PSD before he got to the dogs; any professional outfit should back their culture to keep him. Or those hoping to have culture. North wouldn't blink before taking him.

Have you factored in that we still have to trade for Gunston as well?

You're very good with numbers, Mavoso. You should make a career out of it.

All we need is GWS to get pick 1 and take Cadman.
We'll be fine after that.

I am thinking (hoping) that we do get him very cheap.

Probably pick 48 (302 points) or 55.
(I doubt the 4th Rd 2023 pick we got from the cats will be enough).

Must be a pick higher than 35 (as we chose not to take him as a free agent to protect this pick: McStay compo).

But why would they take a deal that is unders whilst at the same time strengthening the team of one of their finals competitors.

They'd be better off not to get anything for him and send him off to North in the PSD.

Lol, seriously, you can't make this stuff up.

Can't we all agree to disagree and get back to mocking Essendon?

So the Dog's have form on using the PSD to cheat. Hawks screw Jade Rawlings, Dogs act well like dogs and try to make him accept his shitty fate and they both end up being losers. Bit of a lesson there you would think.

He has nothing else to prove.

Not sure they did refuse his salary ask did they? Reports are they effectively offered a five year deal on substantially similar money to that offered by us (and Port). Almost certain he wouldn't do the same deal if they forced him to return anyway. As others have said, one year deal and then moves on.

Nah, the AFL would step in - they don’t want a ‘restraint of trade’ course case that would undermine the whole AFL trade/draft model…
