Does it though?
Or does that just mean that he is consistently playing in the 22?
Deservedly or not!
That's where the average comes in.

Just a discussion mate. If you arent interested in the topic, dont bother.

Look, i think Rich was great and served the club well. Cant remember him being in the media for the wrong reasons either. But the last few games he was being targeted by the opposition as they knew he wouldnt (or couldnt) work hard enough. He gets a lot of kicks from behinds which makes his numbers look better.

I get it people feel some loyalty to players, but clubs rarely do, which supports your point the club still rates him. I dont think im a better judge of where Rich is at that the Lions brains trust, but that doesnt mean i cant disagree with their decision. This is a discussion forum....
.
It’s the list clogger rubbish that’s out of line.

He was all Australian in 2021 and had a down year last year but certainly not our worst or even close to that.

If you don’t like people disagreeing with your comments especially ones that are close to trolling then you’re in the wrong place.

After all it’s a discussion forum as you say.

Quite so, incredibly disrespectful way to describe a guy who has been a stalwart of the club over a long period. Why not simply say, he is in your opinion, past his prime and not necessarily best 22 anymore.

True, if I remember we wanted him for the Dunkley role (the big bodied mid), and if the dogs have lost Dunkley and still don't feel Wally can fill that void then he's really no use to us even as depth.
His spot probably would have been overtaken by Robertson this year (or even 2021) anyhow if he did ended up singing with us during that period of time, with or without Dunkley currently at the club.

Yeah it's a real sliding doors moment, unlike the misunderstood ramblings of Damo. ;)

So an ex-captain gets shafted after the Dogs complain about Dunkley's loyalty?

Seems legit.

"Wallis admitted that one of the great mysteries of his career is why he spent the prime of his footy years out of Luke Beveridge’s 22."

I recon it was the time he made a joke about Bevo's moustache, calling him "El Grumpy". ;)

Yes weird hey
They also moved on Hunter for a future third

"The biggest trade in terms of seniority was Hawthorn’s Jack Gunston.

Gunston was the Hawks’ 28th greatest game-player and the club’s 10th greatest goal-scorer and, whilst his move to Brisbane at the age of 30 will not result in him becoming a top 100 game player or goal-scorer at the Lions, it will mean his position of an AFL top 100 goal-scorer will be enhanced. Starting the 2022 season in the hot seat on 398 goals after no goals in 2021, Gunston kicked a respectable 32 in 2022 and moved up to 93rd place on the AFL top 100 goal-scorers list. He’ll be looking to move higher up the list over the next two years.

Some interesting trades also occurred at the Western Bulldogs. Josh Dunkley – after missing out on being traded to Essendon last season – eventually got his trade to Brisbane. Dunkley finished his career at the Bulldogs one game short of becoming an elite top 100 game-player at the club! However, he did manage to climb into equal 95th position on the top 100 list of goal-scorers, equal with Coby Weightman and four previous champions (Charlie Sutton, Ross Abbey, Ian Low and Ricky Spargo)."

Wholeheartedly agree with this too. Personally wouldn't call a single player on our list a spud or list clogger. Incredibly insulting thing to say to anyone who is giving their all week in & out for the club.

But to say it about a club champion who was a 2021 All Australian & clearly hampered with injury in 2022 was about as average as you get.

Even if Rich gets surpassed in 2023 he's still a champion & certainly not a list clogger. Great clubman can still play vital roles in the VFL as leaders for our developing stars.

In addition to not being 100% fit this year, Rich was let down by his teammates on several occasions.
Lapses in defensive pressure through the middle left him really vulnerable on the rebound, and had him competing in one on ones with taller opponents - quite often with nobody zoning off to help him out.
If we tighten this up and ensure he gets more space to use the footy then there’s no reason he can’t have another good year. Has never been quick anyway - that line breaking kick will always be a weapon.

Sato.....a cloudy, white, Isan whiskey from NE Thailand.

Drunk neat at room temperature, sans ice, with a slightly viscous fluidity and a pleasant, sweet taste afforded a balance with a nicely lingering lime aftertaste.

Say about 25-35%.

Delicious.

Anyway....

I love Richie, I really do. He has been a stalwart for us, over a long and difficult journey.

But, can I remind you all of one Matthew Kennedy.

That was a tough call, but justified in hindsight.

I desperately want him on the podium at season's end in September.

But, maybe we can't with him on ageing legs and past his best - his weaknesses now overcoming his strengths.

It hurts even talking about it :(

Deserves more than a "Like" - well said!

Didn’t kebabgate also have the added spice of the “victim” being disabled just to add newsworthiness to the story
Yeah - the initial report had Rich uttering a slur at the victim as well from memory.

The truth turned out to be so much more prosaic.

List clogger is usually used about a player who is on the list but didn't come on, is not expected to play, would be a delisting candidate but their contract is still going and who were a time machine available would not have be chosen by the club at all.

When a player has shown skills at the highest level but is getting on they talk about going one year too long etc but I am not sure what the politically correct / inoffensive term would be to describe a player like Rich's position would be if someone felt that they would not play again and were taking up a senior list spot... eg say Zorko went another year and took out his hammy in the pre-season and never came back ... he would be referred to as a ?

I tell you who isn’t a complete list clogger at our club, Ryan Lester

How about a five time best & fairest winner, all Australian, and Captain? That's what I'd go with.

Feel free to call him whatever you want though, let us know what you'd go with.

Daniel never looked fit from before the start of the year but still played some good footy and gave his all.

I can see why Browny and co got into him after the Geelong final but he had plenty of mates and I thought it was very poor form to pick on him specifically. Just looking for a headline methinks.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he came back in better nick this year and perhaps his role can be modified in some way. I wouldn't be writing him off just yet.
