Dan is absolutely gone, but let's just enjoy his last half of the year with Brisbane and hopefully we can hold up some silverware before he joins the Collywobbles!
I don't quite understand why we would be so passive to just be fine with him leaving and worst still, to play a guy that has absolute no interest in the Lions as a club, despite supposedly being a Life Member all in the pursuit of money. In fact, I find it quite insulting to every player that played in our premiership era that practically all left money on the table in the pursuit of team success that Dan is so self interested in himself to the detriment of so many people at the club I d have thought he cared about. I'd just delist him now if he doesnt want to be here and play him in the reserves. I have no interest in any player that isnt invested in the future of the club b/c you know come crunch time in a game he cant be trusted.

Yeah we drafted him so we own him right?

Who said that - I said not to play him. He's not invested in our club so who can trust someone who doesnt want to be here. Further, I was implying what makes Dan so special unlike so many Lions, Hawks, Tigers premiership players that stuck together all sacrificing money for ultimate success by not putting themself first? I dont think clubs can enjoy sustained success if players are adopting a me first attitude like Dan obsviously is and if that is the case, why play him when his perormacnces in the past month have been rubbish. Start getting our forward line functioning now for next year or beyond not by playing somone that isnt going to be here.

Bro, it's literally his job. I get we as fans are invested in players but he's not doing wrong by the club. Sure, he's accepting a job at another team but who wouldn't for an extra 500+ K.

Who's to say he's not invested? Played yesterday as if he was

This sort of childish biting the nose to spite your face BS doesn't happen at mature organisations

If it was a choice between Dan and another equally skilled player in the same position and one was leaving and ones was staying then sure get the games into the stayer ... but effectively punishing both Dan and ourselves because he is leaving* and giving a rocket flare of a signal to any other player that being honest with the club about your leaving intentions is a very baaaaad idea.

Picking and choosing which sacrifices you find noble and which ones you find morally reprehensible (eg you can sacrifice money, career longevity, family ties etc to aim for team success or you could be sacrificing the opportunity for team success to set up yourself and your family in both the long and the short term) is totally your individual decision but applying that subjective judgement like a Procrustean bed across the whole playing group and demanding their ideological and philosophical adherence seems not only lacking in tolerance but utterly contrary to everything we know about group dynamics is an inherently diverse environment.

* Assume for logic/illustrative purposes that Dan is leaving

He looked ok for a half but his 3 -4 games before that he barely looked interested.

Two rucks works for the club so given the club isnt good enough for Dan I m of the view that we just play Big O and Fort and Eric and Joe and be done with it. I dont see how that is being childish be playing a set up and getting used to it for the next 5-6 games that will see the club forward - how is playing 3key forward and one ruck for the remainder of the year beneficial when we'll only revert to a 2 ruck x 2 key forward set up next yr?

This is a ridiculous take. Dan is a different person to those players, and if his priorities are different to theirs, that's perfectly valid. Also, our team was far better back then, compared to now.

Did those players from Lions Hawks and Tigers teams that won 3 priemerships all know they were on the verge of greatness? Of course they didn't that's something you only know in hindsight yet 98% of players from those teams all made personal sacrifices before hand, they didnt abondon ship so they could get a few extra hundred thousand or even a million in their account. SO tell me how Dan is any different from any player from any of those teams?

He was the most serviceable of our tall forwards yesterday.
Hard to say he is not invested.
Yes, his form has been down, but if and when he makes that decision his mind will ease and he will give us all he has for the rest of the year. That may have started yesterday.
If his form continues to wain, I agree we have other options that we can go with.

It’s called being mature (as a club).

Team mates/clubs knowing that certain players are leaving happens all the time all over the world, the NRL can do it mid season and 18 months in advance, no big deal, these players are professional and mature enough to give their all... or they should be.

If Dan's form doesn't warrant selection he will be out of the team and the decision from the coaches will have nothing to do with him maybe moving on at the end of the year.

Sure if the coaches think he's playing uninterested then drop him and they would do this. But the fact they hadn't should be evidence for people that he's still contributing to a satisfactory level.

Just because some emotional numpties on line think he's checked out shouldn't be enough to confidently make these statements

Do we know 100% that McStay is leaving?

I wondered yesterday by his performance that he may have decided to stay. He just seemed more relaxed and happier than he's been for quite some time.

Should Hawthorn have sat buddy in their reserves team in 2013?

Definitely noticed, but it may also mean the opposite.

Good to see someone can answer this then.

Hawthorn had won a premiership just a few years before that, which gave them some confidence. How many Richmond players were sacrificing earnings prior to 2017? If they were, then they also had confidence. If Dan isn't confident in us winning multiple premierships in coming years, I can't blame him because I'm not confident either.

Did you scrutinise their list and contracts to arrive at that figure, or are you making things up?

It is a profession..
If the club and Dan are professional about it all. Do not understand a problem.
Yes we could get games into someone else. Or we go with a player we think is better.
I always wonder why supporters get dirty on players going.
Although we played guys we about to chop before as we needed them.
