I am guilty of it myself but always amazed that we are willing to cut players who have given great service and replace them with brand new shiny objects without a second thought.
To be fair a lot of the time that’s how you improve your team. I haven’t seen anyone disrespecting Gardiner on here, I’ve been critical about his spot in the team, not necessarily his ability but more his fit with our other key backs.

The club would be giving it deep thought, I think if our players are asking for more $$$ or longer contracts than the club thinks they are worth it is good salary cap/list management to let them go, you have to draw a line somewhere.

I agree, treat the fella with respect, but I would certainly not be offering Gardiner too juicy a contract. And 4 years? That’s crazy with his body.

If he can get significantly more at another club, I would shake his hand and wish him all the best.

One would hope they have learn't a bit after Lyons. But yeah - it is a cut throat business. Thanks for your contribution Darcy, but....

If we are OK with McStay, then he is the same thing, just the boot is on the other foot.

As we are going to lose McStay by free agency and I don’t think we are likely to bring in a free agent of any note, I wonder whether also losing Gardiner by free agency might help us pony up (by way of compensation) the points we need for Ashcroft, Fletcher and potentially Dunkley (without large deficits in to the next draft year).

4 years @ 900 is realistically better than 3 years at 900. The same money spread over a longer period so we won't max our cap. Not saying that's the figure, but highlighting what they're likely considering.

Given we can afford Dunkley despite being a prelim finalist quality team, I'm pretty happy with our list managers and their planning.

Frampton has asked Crows for a clearance to the Pies where he is being sought as a versatile tall. Perhaps the McStay deal has gone cold.

At this stage I’d be happy to keep him, the last two games have shown maybe we’re not utilising him as best we could.

"LIAM Jones will land at the Western Bulldogs as a free agent after officially nominating his former club as his new home."
Above from AFL site

Would the Dogs still be interested in Gardinrer 192cm & 91kg
Liam is listed as 199cm & 97kg

Dizzy has been a loyal servant, but he's one of the weakest links in our 22.

I'd prefer a player like Grimes, Vlaustin, Haynes as our 3rd tall who can play on and off thier man, and offer some offensive rebound.

Here's the real question - is there a better option than Dizzy actually available on the market this year?

This is also my question. I can't see any better options than Gardiner available, and he'd leave a huge hole in our defensive depth that's already looking somewhat shallow.

You are right, options are slim in terms of what he offers the team and Gardiner has been awesome for our club for a long time, but question marks over his longevity in the game still exist in my opinion and I for one believe his disposal in key moments poses a real problem for both a ball movement point of view and providing easy turnovers to the opposition. He has exhibited a lack of confidence in his own ability to dispose of the footy at times too
His position is one that I would highlight as an urgent need in the short term.
I certainly would not be offering a 4 year deal at this stage to him, however our hand may have been forced by other clubs.

With the greatest respect for him it's unfathomable why we would offer him 4 years. His shoulder pings most years. He's a good ,honest solid soldier but no shark.

I think it would be a step backwards giving him 4 years. Regardless of whatever the market is.
