The Eagles churned out a decent amount of AFL players when he was there. At least that's what I was told by people I know with close ties to that club. I never actually bothered to fact check this. Starting to think the cheeky buggers scammed me.
He was there for 8 years between 2010 and 2018 and according to Draft Guru didn't have a single player from the club drafted to the AFL in his last 5 years at the club (and no one picked until Jacob Wehr in 2020 after we picked Riley Knight at 46 in 2013).

He had Brodie Smith, Jared Polec drafted in his first year there, so probably can't take credit for them, them it's guys like Luke Dunstan, Ellis-Yolman, Jimmy Toumpas, Riley Knight, Nick Joyce, and a few underages taken by GWS who never played.

Fogarty crushed any ideas I had about SANFL form being meaningful.
Charlie Cameron too

If you're good enough, you're good enough

Working out and adjusting to the nuances of our SANFL team structure and the competition itself in order to be statistically successful there is meaningless

Those bastards. It was a pump and dump scam! I should have known. Nobody who rates their coach goes shopping him around.

Cameron had traits we could all see would translate to AFL level and was rightly picked based on them, because we could all see it didn't matter what level he was playing at, he was gonna be able to do what he does, even if he was raw.

That sort of selection doesn't seem to fly anymore and it's all about consistency and playing to your weakness rather than your strength.

It highlights one problem with expecting young talent to emerge from the SANFL. Eagles wer a successful team trying to win premierships. Developing players to be drafted to the AFL probably wasn't their priority, but developing players for their league squad was.

develop in the SANFL, shock horror, develop into an SANFL player. We have and will always prefer an experienced guy dishing up crap like Sloane ahead of giving a kid a go. We should be seeing Hately again before delisting or Schoey or Berry. But we are addicted to Sloane's 200 odd games.

I wouldn't go that far.....yet.

But I haven't seen "it" with him as some on here claim he does.

He seems like a good honest tryer with average skills.

Pedlar and Soligo I like a lot more.
He’s garbage mate..

How are you meant to make it at AFL level when you struggle, fumble and **** up at sanfl level

There's a role for him in a midfield. The issue is we draft so many of the same midfielders it's impossible to carry them all and have the unit function both ways.
