I do find it funny that no Vic clubs travels round 1 it is pathetic really

A little frustrating, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a few external factors involved in that rather than just being "Let's keep all Vic teams in Vic in Round 1":

- The introduction of "Magic Round" (not sure what it's official name is) has bought the season forward by 1 week compared to the original schedule, and that means not all stadiums are available/ready for AFL

- Optus Stadium is hosting Ed Sheeran on 12 March, and during the week the management team said the ground won't be ready for AFL with the new start date for the season; that means both WA teams have to travel week 1. Straight up that means 1 interstate venue out of action & 2 interstate teams being forced to play away

- The Sheffield Shield final is scheduled for March 23 - 26 at venue TBC; NSW uses the SCG & Qld use the GABBA as their home venue, so it may be that neither of those grounds can be converted back to AFL ready until after their last cricket match. At this stage those matches are March 2 - 5, and while NSW is currently bottom of the ladder & seriously unlikely to play in the final let alone host it, Qld is currently 3rd and mathematically still a chance to finish top & host the final. I'm guessing that neither would have been scheduled to host a match during the initial Round 1 week, and with the start of the season bought forward, they likely will be travelling teams for the first couple of rounds

That equates to 3 interstate venues unavailable, and 4 interstate teams playing being forced as the away side in week 1 - may have had an impact on scheduling

We want a big pre-season now by Ollie. If he’s named the lead up will be ginormous!!!
Would prefer if we made some pretext up about him not being ready with a twinged thigh or similar.

If he debuts for us against Collingwood he's going to be 10x the public enemy for them that he'd be if he debuted against North and played Collingwood for the first time some time in July

Love OH to be in the 23, beat the Pies as he sits unused on the extended bench, gives us a week to review other teams use of it. Next level shithousery.

Your research and knowledge continues to astound. You make this board very informative.

Wouldn’t complain if we only get seven at GMHBA and host 4 at the G. Give everyone else a reason to sook on the way to B2B I say

I'd like this fixture.
RD1 MCG home game

RD2 W/C away game
stayover for
RD3 Freo away game

RD4 MCG away game

RD5 Adel away game
stayover for
RD6 Port away game

RD7 MCG away game

RD8 Syd away game
Stayover for
RD9 GWS away game

RD10 MCG away game

RD11 G/C AWAY game
stayover for
RD12 Brisbane away game

BYE

Then all at home bar a late one at the MCG.

I still have a feeling that they may possibly play a couple of games at KP (against low drawing teams like GC & GWS) in the first half of the season before the stand is completed - the club is adamant about still having 9 games in Geelong but with the stand not being ready to late May/early June it's hard to see us getting 9 of the last 12/13 matches at KP. Could see a scenario in which the AFL would still give the 9 KP games and schedule 7 of them after the mid-year bye if club agreed to play a couple of games there while the finishing touches were made to the new stand - surely two games at reduced capacity would still be better $$$ wise then having an extra home game or two in Melbourne (which would most likely have to be played at Marvel anyway)

Hard to not agree with this. The AFL has obsession with always being in the news.
But this morning should not have been the AFL's limelight to steal.

6 am Sunday morning is the pettiest AFL move.

What a bunch of "look at me w***ers"

Really shit move IMO and it wont win them friends.

GO Catters

I agree that personally the best long game is for him not to play. If he is playing it would be of course a lot of fun for us all and a media story but I don’t know he needs that pressure first game for a new club (not quite the same as Jack Watts but making him a marque story game one against pies did him no favour). Our club doesnt néed this story angle.

To be fair I think it is a bit of a stretch right now to think he is in best 23 for round 1 anyway. Of course pre season still to come.

There is new video sent to members with Steve Hocking in which he confirms that fixture is out later this week, he also confirmed that we will still get 9 games at GMHBA, the flag unveiling will take place at the first game in Geelong and the teams that have been scheduled to play at KP next season "will have members really excited"
