I do find it funny that no Vic clubs travels round 1 it is pathetic really
A little frustrating, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a few external factors involved in that rather than just being "Let's keep all Vic teams in Vic in Round 1":
- The introduction of "Magic Round" (not sure what it's official name is) has bought the season forward by 1 week compared to the original schedule, and that means not all stadiums are available/ready for AFL
- Optus Stadium is hosting Ed Sheeran on 12 March, and during the week the management team said the ground won't be ready for AFL with the new start date for the season; that means both WA teams have to travel week 1. Straight up that means 1 interstate venue out of action & 2 interstate teams being forced to play away
- The Sheffield Shield final is scheduled for March 23 - 26 at venue TBC; NSW uses the SCG & Qld use the GABBA as their home venue, so it may be that neither of those grounds can be converted back to AFL ready until after their last cricket match. At this stage those matches are March 2 - 5, and while NSW is currently bottom of the ladder & seriously unlikely to play in the final let alone host it, Qld is currently 3rd and mathematically still a chance to finish top & host the final. I'm guessing that neither would have been scheduled to host a match during the initial Round 1 week, and with the start of the season bought forward, they likely will be travelling teams for the first couple of rounds
That equates to 3 interstate venues unavailable, and 4 interstate teams playing being forced as the away side in week 1 - may have had an impact on scheduling
