I reckon leave it for a year. Gulden my first choice for an in. It is indeed a young side. The mids are very young. But good. Gulden is already a leader. There were times in matches when he was telling older players what to do what is going on. He knows.
If not Gulden to replace JPK in the leadership group then who do you think they would pick? Or not replace him?
I would definitely leave it a while before making Errol a captain! But it will happen.

I see captaincy decisions are starting to hit the news and immediately wonder when ours will appear and what they will be.
I can't see any reason that Parker or Mills would lose their captaincies but it might be time for Rampe to pass the baton to allow him to concentrate more on his own game and leading just the defence.
I can't see a need to replace Rampe nor an obvious candidate to do so who would have the level of respect.
I expect we should see some change in the leadership group. JPK will be gone of course but Rampe, Papley, Cunningham and Franklin remain. I would be surprised if Gulden wasn't added to the group and maybe one other, possibly Tom McCartin?
It will be interesting!
Agree about a Parker & Mills co-captaincy being likely, although Rampe's strong finish in the B&F suggests his value internally is still far greater than what fans assume because of his age and post-prime form. So I wouldn't be surprised if he is a co-captain again this year.

Re the leadership group, I posited the question about whether we need to make some changes to it a few months ago. I wonder if it needs to better reflect the profile of the list and where we're at. JPK is retired, Buddy is in the final year of his contract and Cunningham spent more time out of our best 22 than in it last year. With such a young group, I think that cohort need to be better represented in the leadership group. Gulden is an obvious one, but my smokey would be Hayward. Been at the club over half a decade now, won the Best Clubman award in last year's B&F, is supposedly a favourite of Horse's. I think they would be quality additions to the leadership group when mixed in with the veterans, but of course we're only on the outside looking in.

The Roar's take on our best 23 this season.

Don't buy the "GF thrashing curse", at least not for clubs with strong cultures. We finished Top 4 in 2015, pushed Freo away and the Roos, while ruined with injuries.

Crows in 2018 went straight into their completely non controversial camp, GWS have always struggled to show much off field.

Early bets on Errol Gulden (I know everyone is in love with Warner, who is amazing, but Gulden is just soooooo good).

Early seedings would be Gulden, Ch.Warner, Stephens, McDonald then Campbell.

I could see Sheldrick in or Roberts in the top 5 but those guys above are starting best 23

I am glad McInerney won one of these things while he got the chance. He's a great talent.

Campbell is one of the finest kicks in the league.

I’m quite surprised he’s not really seen as a potential star on this board.
I'm as big a fan of his as anyone, and I too share the belief in him, but what has he done to convince those who need more convincing than you and I?

You need more than a stand alone attribute to make it, and whilst I think he will bring other attributes together into more of a complete game, I'm definitely not surprised others don't share that view yet.

We definitely have some talent in the 2s. What to do with it is the question. Will be interesting to see who has pushed their way into the team. There is always someone who breaks out. Campnell, Sheldrick, Gould, Konstanty and Mitchell have impressed. What of Roberts and Cory Warner? I like the fact that players have to do an apprenticeship. When they force their way in they are ready.

Holy Crap!

If Ladhams still has one game left to serve of his suspension from last year (which I think he does - four game suspension and Swans only played three games thereafter), and Reid doesn't get up for round 1 (very likely given the latest injury update and his history of slow recovery)... then we're almost certainly going to have the same key forward line-up going into round 1 this year that we had in round 1 last year: Buddy, McLean, McDonald.

…. and Gus whizzing around them, as per Round 1 last year 😋

Oh yep, you are spot on. 4-game suspension reduced to 3 with an early plea.

Which means it's game on for the talls. I love a pre-season face-off between a number of Swans.

That said, I don't know if I want Ladhams forward. So I think I want him vying for Hickey's spot.

Nothing against Gus but hopefully Papley will be 100% fit and firing on all cylinders, unlike last year.
The big question there will be "does GC have an exit defender worthy of The Clamp?".
I can honestly see Wicks, Clarke & Sheldrick rotating in and out of the side in each other's place, the same kinda way that McLean/McDonald/Amartey have been doing over the last few years. Then of course one standout showing in a pre-season game from Konstanty and that complicates things.

Certainly the three of them can fulfil three different roles.
Wicks general pressure and attack
Clarke tight on the exit defender
Sheldrick rotating through the midfield
Konstanty I think is probably most like Papley and Wicks at this stage and will have to pull out something special to get a run just yet.
Certainly one of the most interesting tussles for a position this season!

I want Gus to stick to being a mid rather than spending his early years as a forward

I reckon its probably most important for him to get senior games. Theres a spot as a small forward open. Clarke, Wicks, Bell etc filled it last year, but I reckon it will be shared by Konstanty and Gus this year. If Gus plays (which is better than if he doesn't) he'll still get the opportunity at fwd half stoppages and will likely get small but ever increasing opportunities up the ground.
Alternative is to wait for one of Parker, Mills, Rowbum or Warner to get injured.
