I'm with you some of the Saints crowds at Marvel have also been ordinary but it would be better for maybe 40k at Marvel than at the MCG!

You're going to get 10-15k less at Marvel because of the MCC members and a much smaller AFL members reserve.

Carlton finish on 1,158,484. This is their highest total ever, beating 2009 by 58,275. It's a rise of 147k from last year. They are one of 6 teams to set new records this year.

GWS finish on 417,129. This is their 4th highest total and an increase of 32,238 from last year.

With GWS finally overhauling their 2022 total this confirms that every team has had an increase, the only such instance in history.

Counting all Gather Round games means the AFL ended up just under 7.5 million - 7,474,722.
Is the 7,474,722 figure a record total?

A couple 90k+ finals which is great but it would look awful to play a final that won’t be more than 55k at the mcg. If they ever do an exception to get a final played at marvel this saints vs gws game should be it.

Plenty of reports that Collingwood vs Melbourne will be played on the Thursday night. I wonder how much this will change the crowd.

I don't think it will make too much of a difference, it's finals time. Just for an example in 2018 Rich V Hawks got 91,446 in absolute pouring rain. There will be between 90-95K

After Round 24 (excluding Gather Round).

A new record total of 7,474,722 achieved with the help of the extra round. The average of 36,110 is fifth best behind the years 2007-2010. It's the best since GWS and Gold Coast joined.

Collingwood made it three years in a row as #1 for overall crowds with a new record total of 1,384,827. Last 60 seasons (excl 2019-20):

Despite strong crowds from all of Carlton, Richmond and Essendon the gap between 1st and 2nd was the highest it's been for a decade:

Collingwood also set a new record for home games (does not include Gather Round) of 720,696:

However they missed the record for away games by ~2,500. It's now 55 times out of the last 70 seasons that Collingwood have had the largest away crowds:

Four new entries to the top 50 seasons of all time - Collingwood at #1, Carlton at #13, Richmond at #14 and Essendon at #28.

This game looks like it will set 2 records:

  • biggest Vic crowd for GWS
  • smallest % of crowd remaining at final siren

That was in Rnd 20 when Carlton beat Collingwood.

Mass evacuation half way through the final qtr.

I thought it was a fire drill :laughv1:

Don't think it beat the Carlton Brisbane game. That looked like there was a fire alarm at 3/4 time

Interesting fixturing. Would've had the Carlton EF a lock for Thurs, and the Lions QF in the 3:20 Saturday timeslot. Maybe the Panthers losing on the weekend had something to do with it.
They generally don't like give the EF a day advantage over the loser of the QF

Lions/Port will host StKilda/GWS, so there's no advantage to begin with.

I think he meant if Carlton/Syd was on Thursday the winner would have an advantage over the loser of Coll/Melb who would play on Friday.

MCC update for the Saints vs Giants.

Provisional MCC members offered the opportunity to purchase reserved seats ($12 upgrade) or scan with their card to get access to levels 1 and 4 of the members reserve.

I had no idea mcc members could pretty much just show up for finals. I would have thought all finals required some form of a token payment at least.

Do AFL members have to pay for finals tickets?

Yes - although the first couple of weeks are pretty cheap - $22.
