How do people feel AFLW crowds are going to fair this season?

It seems like there has been a steady decline from an average of 7,000 down to 2,000.

However there are now more games per team, more teams which may have impacted, as well as the impacts of Covid and having two seasons in one year.

I think you'll begin to see it increase, albeit it's going to be slow and gradual.

Clubs that have teams in the mens finals may be able to leverage that into support for their women's sides. On a wider note albeit the recent success of the Matildas will help increase support of women's sport across the board, again slowly though.

It will be interesting to see how the crowds fare for the latest teams (Power, Swans, Hawks and Bombers). Essendon returning to Windy Hill and the Bulldogs being able to have games at Whitten Oval (not sure if that is those year or next year) should hopefully see their crowds grow.

Melbourne need to look at an alternative venue to Casey Fields as it's location is the biggest issue in trying to attract away fans. Hawthorn are looking to use Frankston more, which is where they got good crowds last year, especially with the impending redevelopment if Box Hill City Oval.

Some of the other issues that need addressing include Arden Street's lack of seating and most grounds lack of shelter/shade from elements.

Yeah good summary I think

I am probably a bit more bullish. I reckon crowds will be up 40% on last season (maybe 3,500 average) and ratings will be up significantly as well.

The upside of having all 18 teams represented and a settled place in the calendar is that there is now a period of consolidation, stability and general improvement ahead.

I feel like this is the worst time of year to start AFLW. People who's teams are in men's finals are focused on men's finals, not thinking about regular season women's games. By the time the men's finals are done people will have footy fatigue and by the time women's finals come it will be played during the hottest time of the year.

However crowds will be better than last season since people know well in advance the season is starting at this time of the year and it doesn't have the farce of last season where two premierships were awarded in one calendar year.

Not sure I would call it the worse time of year....or that November is the hottest time of year for the matter.

In the greater scheme of things, this is definitely the best time to run the season, bearing in mind that it will necessarily have to move back into the men's season as the season extends.

We have already seen the alternative. I.e. Genuinely starting at the hottest time of year and then getting swamped by the men's season.

February was a good time of the year to start it, just play the first month or so only at night. It's a time of year where people are actually itching for the footy to be back. Then you can have finals in June working around the men's bye weeks.

I will concede January was too early though.

November is definitely one of the hottest times of the year. If you work outdoors you'd know that.
