Picks between 35 and 40 are nearly useless. Plenty have this draft at not going far past 40. You'd be really taking on some players unlikely to make the grade at AFL level so tying up spots that will be like Allison where he's not likely to make it. At that point you'd maybe make one selection of a drifter and use the rest of the spots in the PSD and midseason drafts where you don't have to make long term commitments. Maybe just top with VFL and guys like Matho.

I reckon there is some talent there at our first 2 picks but gets pretty speculative after that.
Yes and no. Probably 30-45 but if you look at last year we got 3 good prospects in that range.
The point being that if we don't much like what's on offer in this years 1st round then there's time and opportunity to trade out and just scoop up some remaining talant. Not necessarily ideal, but possible.

Along with Caminiti from last year, could SOS come up with another left field gem.
Sam Sofronidis 23 y.o KPD from the VAFA.
Four other clubs looking at him, seems a likely type for The Cats.

Saints have mentioned that they would like another mid. a sml. to med. forward & a KPD & a ruck.
And I believe we need a sml. back-pocket to take care of the oppo. sml. forwards, why the interest in Nyko.
This is why I reckon we go;

1. C.Edwards
2. A.Moir
3. S.Mannagh
4. C.Nyko

Rookie:

1. S.Sofronidis 194cm KPD-Allison gets cut & paid?
2. L.Smith 202cm Ruck

Like all your picks but think moir will slide to almost our pick 40, there is better prospects than him for our 2nd pick

Still would rather take a punt at moir getting to pick 40 than use 21, think there are a few better and more of a need
26, which he is rated by some & me? As far as need, at his size he makes a point of difference to our forward line, especially if you move Owens & Phillipou to the midfield

After pick 10, the talent is questionable.
Moir presents pure talent & a year carrying injury, take the risk, coz someone else will
As I have said, pick 26 over Billings at 3, is worthy.
Phillipou & Moir on half forward flanks will be a sight to see, next year with the Sandy Zebs

Yeah its all pretty even after 10, but still think we need to adress our defiencies in mids, key back and small forward and most of the mock drafts have moir getting to around our 3rd pick.. who knows though, just hope we can get a couple of gems to add to our young stars

Yeh sure if you look at it on face value and don't look at it further.

They're two very different players.

Nas had qualities that meant he could transition to AFL footy. For example his ball use and athleticism. He was an outside player.

Tholstrop doesn't have these qualities. His ball use isn't that great. He's not a silky outside type. He doesn't hit the score board so he doesn't have an offensive side to his game. He's not a bull ball winner.

He knows how to attack the man though hence his role at subi in the fwd line providing defensive pressure. Especially since they lost Robert to NM.

Subi run a lot of guys through that midfield. They're not scared about rotating people through the various lines. He doesn't look like he knows how to do that inside mid role. Reminds me a bit of Clark who didn't get drafted albeit not as bad.

I just don't see how he transitions to AFL and I especially don't see how it ends up in the midfield which is what we need.

Again, suggesting he doesn't hit the scoreboard is harsh considering he was playing senior footy.

0.7 goals a game for a 17 year old kid playing senior WAFL footy is going OK. And let's not look past the fact he did average 2 goals a game playing as an under ager in WAFL colts.

As for needing a out and out midfielder, well getting a quality midfielder would be ideal but the fact is it is a very thin draft with very little midfield talent. I don't like the idea of reaching for a midfielder just because that's what we need.

True but much softer draft

Fallacy. We need gun centre square mids. We ain't getting them from where our picks are.
