I suppose It’s only bad if we miss finals.
Or if next years draft looks better and actually has some very good midfield options.

There will obviously be some guns taken in this draft but it doesn't get me too excited, especially in that late first round range.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

Next years draft is meant to be a midfielders draft- pretty deep too, with lots of really good prospects at this stage

Windsor looks like an outside mid/winger.. Not going to help us with our general contested ball winning issue. Whereas Charlie Edwards and Cooper Simpson are both balanced mids and can burst away from stoppages with pace.

We need mids, not more thin key backs that are may become good.. Look at Zach Reid from Essendon, or Grainger Brass from Hawthorn. Actually, apart from Carlton’s Weitering, which other first round key defenders have worked out lately?
Harry Himmelberg (14) & Jordan Ridley (22) spring to mind

Looks it’s all a hypothetical really.

It’s partially why I hate sharing stuff about the draft. The variables are insane.

Most ratings have Windsor going before our pick. Hardeman is more of a rebounding defender than mid and Tholstrup would be a considered a half forward who pinch hits in the midfield than an outright mid. Twomey states some clubs dont view DeMattia as a midfielder at the next level and while Edwards is a mid, most rankings have him in-between our 2 picks so it's not a straight forward selection.
Would 17 be too high for Cooper S*****n, he seems to be the one that fits for us.
Mt.Martha lad.

Really dangerous trading out of the first 2 round next year. Would have to be a star to roll the dice.

25y.o & under

B. Battle Van Es Paton

H.B. NWM Caminiti Stocker

C. Byrnes Dow Henry

H.F. Owens Keeler Phillipou

F. Higgins M.King B.King

Foll. Heath Windhager Hotton

I/C. Allison, Clark, McLennan, O'Connor, Sharman

Apart from 21 other Squad members

Now what do we need for the future?

You can't say its just best player available, its gotta be a mix of positional too, yeah?

A chance Owens & Phillipou become midfielder's.

So, slotting Moir & Tholstrup into h.f. roles, doesn't look such a bad idea? If you want best available that is.

Add S*****n & you've already got your Dow replacement if needed.

God I hope we don't plan on throwing away our future first

The chance of a club wanting to give up a pick between #13 & #21 seems remote in any event. But if our recruiters rate this years player higher than the expected player next year, I cant see the issue with it. Our picks will blow out to approx. #16-17 & #26 the opposition clubs that have picks between that are Adelaide #14, North #15, GWS #16, North #17, North #18, Collingwood #19, Adelaide #20. The most obvious trade is North with 3 x picks in the range, but they would want a sweetener I just hope that doesnt cost too much.

The other consideration for next year is perhaps they have a Free Agent or two committed to coming to the club. The other possibility is perhaps they are banking on getting in other players like the Father Sons Everitt & Peckett or NGA's Cole next year.

Would not class Henry as a mid. Dow certainly.

He’s certainly been recruited as a midfielder.

Probably not at centre bounces that often but once the ball starts moving, Henry will be right in the thick of it.

There isn't a genuine out and out midfielder that I'd be over the moon about taking with our first selection unfortunately.

Fortunately I think there are a handful in a similar range that we will have the chance to take with our second.

Best available with the first. Take a mid with the second if we like one.
I’m not against seeking a Norf trade for their two picks in between ours for 13 and 21. Feel like not much difference between 13 to 15/16/17, but if we could bring 21 forward a tad, I wonder if we could snag a couple that we like.

Who knows if Everitt or Peckett will be any good and if Cole is quality then we won't have access too him unfortunately.

We can't actually trade out our future first currently anyway because we already traded our second, but the idea sounds like something we would regret in the future, much like SOS and his Stocker deal.

Many people with much greater knowledge about this draft than anyone on here rate Murphy higher than a lot of the mids we are discussing at our pick.

Maybe we draft him, maybe we dont. But if he is the best available, we should take him because we need more good players in every position.
I personally have some reservations about Murphy & would prefer we take mids with at least our first pick, if not, Tholstrup may be a temptation.
Charlie Edwards & Cooper Simpson both have upside and have qualities we need in the midfield.
