This is said every year.

Infact it was genuinely said this time last year about this draft.

I genuinely feel like that saying “a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush” is really relevant when it comes to drafts.

Do the work. If you can’t split or think highly enough of certain kids.

Go get them as opposed to always waiting for “better”

It was more that the stand out kids last year were Reid and Watson who looked better than most of last year's crop playing against them. I think the top 8 is probably a bit better but it's got less depth and a few more question marks.

Twomey is however saying…

Where does he go? Looks more likely to fit in early in the second round of the draft than in the first. Geelong could be a fit if the Cats don't grab a key defender with their top pick.
Just saw a couple clips of Ollie Murphy, Ollie is a bean pole ruckman sized back with not a lot of presence, loses 1 or 1s easy.. not a particular good kick, looks mostly unco and messy which is worrying. Murphy looks like another Howard, and maybe even a slower Howard. Would prefer key backs with speed, presence and most of all, a bit of agro.. Think we should focus on mids and maybe small/medium mids, pick up a mature body in Stewart/Voss/Jeka as a DFA instead.

40. COOPER SIMPSON

Position:
Midfielder

Size: 182cm

Clubs: Dandenong Stingrays/Mt Martha

AFL player comparison: Luke Davies-Uniacke

An ankle injury in his first champs game meant he missed the remaining three matches for Vic Country, but recruiters certainly haven’t gotten the AFL potential of this well-balanced on-baller. He averaged 24 disposals across his first three Talent League games for the Stingrays, while also finishing with 11 touches, seven contested possessions and three centre clearances for the AFL Academy against Port’s SANFL side. He then finished with three strong games for Dandenong: 2.1 from 22 touches against the Bushrangers, 28 disposals and eight marks against the Devils then 2.1 from 20 disposals against Gippsland. Speedy, cool under pressure and clean with ball in-hand, Simpson is also a big moments player that steps up when his team needs him most. Add in his ultra professionalism, elite burstaway speed and evasive step in traffic and you’ve got yourself an AFL player. He could be taken a lot earlier on draft night.

Hope we select Cooper

Like the highlights! Decent kick to say the least and on both sides. Got lots of toe.

Latest Zero Hanger draft from Mitch “Twomey Lite” Keating has us taking:

#17 - Ollie Murphy - 200/87 KPD
#27 - Charlie Edwards - 191/85 - MID/UTIL

Both picks drifted after matched bids.

Would be absolutely DELIGHTED with that.

Round it off with Simson for our third and i'll be doing cartwheels.

Gringo's man gets a special mention!

Simpson played for Australia in their match against Carlton early on. He’s been highly rated throughout. Some injuries hampered him this year and performances were still probably better than the general media give hi credit for. I just can’t see him getting to the 30s in clubland. I’d be happy to try and shift a pick into the mid to late 20s if he’s still there. 40 for Johnston?

I’m not concerned where this draft finishes as I think we will long be done.

But if the knock is that there is a top 8 and then a lot of evenness in the next 20 picks. Then that’s not really a bad thing.

Again, if Toce and co have done the work - like they did with Nas and Pou. Back them in.

Nas was the one he hit out of the park. Pou was Essendon stupidity.

He won’t get to our third. I did hear “we would take him”, but Im not sure on source’s track record. I assume that might be at our second pick, but he could’ve gone by then. Probably in the mix once it gets to our first pick and depends if we like Edwards/Thongstrap/Hardeman etc more

I'd be very surprised if either made it, if one does I hope it's Wilson though
Any chance we can move up the order in live trading , because our chances of picking up a class mid at 17 is a stretch.
If we go for best player available we will end up with a skinny tall defender - Ollie Murphy , who would be useful but it will be another kid developing in the 2s.

It is getting to the stage now where the talent at clubs in the midfield is so high expecting to pluck a Bont is just a dream if your out of the top 10.
Most of the talent from the last say 5 yrs have been the cream of the draft - Diacos , Horn Francis , Sheezel , Wardlaw , Ashcrroft , Roozie , Butters - expecting to pick up anyone team changing in the teens in this draft is very slim.

Ok you can get lucky like we did with Owens , Nas and Phillipou and the Swans with there kids from there Academy , but these kids today are so scrutinized they have just about taken all the guess work out of picking the kids in the draft.

We could give up our future first , but we'd be more likely to get lucky with our future first than even a traded up pick this year by the sound of things.
Nas and Phillipou weren't luck. They were simply taking a decent pick available to us, which seems alien to StKilda supporters.

Hi guys, just after some knowledge of your list...seems fairly well balanced

So far i have Stkilda taking

L.Collard at 18 (After bids) Small FWD
A.Roberts at 26 (After bids) HBF

And now im upto your 3rd pick (Pick 42)

What type of players would you want at that range

There isnt much left there in regards to KPF (R.Weatherill, L.Lloyd 193cm undersized) or rucks (Visentini)

Last year Hotton medium mid
Keeler Ruck/Fwd
James Van Ess KPD

Phillipou, Windhaegar and M.Owens look the future of the midfield

The general consensus has been: minor talk about Collard, none that I can recall about Roberts.

We need mids, mids, mids, a KPD, small Forward, HBF and a ruckman.
