Yeah, but this is where the points table doesnt really work coz it doesnt take into account the depth of a particular draft. 27 this year could be worth 40 or worse any other year.

Yeah that's fair, especially with it considered a shallow draft this year. Just spitballing with a reasonably realistic scenario.

King is out of contract but not a free agent. (I think we've had that discussion before?)

You might be right on Geelong, their draft hand is thin this year, but seems like most teams are only using a few picks this year so worth a shot.
Ah yeh you’re right I think we did have that discussion a while ago - oops!

Fingers crossed anyway. I have a feeling we might not be done trading yet this year and I definitely think we’ve made some room to go after a KPF when Petty leaves.

Yeah that Geelong pick 8 and WC's future 1st are the watches for me. Petty, TMac, Brown and Schache all potentially gone end of next year so we might even need to look at both trade and draft in terms of key position players. A handful of good ones coming out of contract then though.

Exactly why I’m keen on either Curtin or O’Sullivan with our first this year.

I also think we might be right into Jamara (or King as second option) for next year..

Yeah, fair few available next year, ranging from 'defs have a crack' to 'probs not likely', but all of Jamarra, Marshall, Hogan, King, McDonald and Cadman are out of contract.

A showcase of the silky smooth and versatile Daniel Curtin at his best over the course of the 2023 season.

Yes please. Skills like that would do wonders for us.

Just putting it out there - What if Curtin was available at 6 and we did something like this:

Dees trade out pick 6 for WC's future first and their pick 37.
Dees then trade picks 37 and 42 to GC for pick 27. (More points for GC)
Dees then trade 27 and our future first to Geelong for pick 8.

In 2024, Dees trade WC first round pick (likely between 1-4) for Ben King after we lose Petty to Adelaide.

Leaves us with picks 8 and 11 this year, King as replacement for Petty, and then whatever picks we get for Petty in trade.

Thoughts?
Why would West Coast effectively downgrade their pick and then throw in something extra?

To get Curtin.

Cal Twomey mentioned today WC will trade their future first for Curtin if available from about pick 4 onwards.

yeah ok, didn't know that

Melbourne is circling key tall Daniel Curtin and made the 8000km round trip to interview his Western Australian livewire teammate Koltyn Tholstrup.

The Demons are in a strong position to land Curtin as a flexible key position player who could emerge as the long-term replacement for 31-year-old Steven May.

The Hawks will have the first call on the 195cm Curtin at pick four but could instead pick up exciting small forward Nick Watson, while the Bulldogs like midfielder Ryley Sanders at five.

It means the Demons could land Curtin at six and then take exciting forward-midfielder Koltyn Tholstrup at 11 after visiting him in Esperance in regional WA last week.

Gun recruiter Jason Taylor is believed to have flown to Perth and then taken a light plane to the southern tip of WA to meet the 188cm goal kicker and his parents.

It is understood the Demons are the only club to have made the mega trip down to Tholstrup’s hometown to interview the popular and physical game winner.

The Demons also have Windsor in the mix to help bolster their transition game, but would be ecstatic to secure Tholstrup if Windsor is already gone.

As the Herald Sun revealed last month, West Coast remains interested in swapping its future first-round draft pick with either Hawthorn or Melbourne to land Curtin.

But the Demons and Hawks are expected to knock back that offer in the chance West Coast bounces up the ladder next year with an improved injury list.

Wouldn't be my first choice (they may not even be available anyway) but I'd be fine with Tholstrup at 11 so long as we don't take Sanders at 6.

Danster going to have an aneurysm if we take two WA kids.

Geelong would be mad to do this so would we as there is a good chance King will sign on with the Suns. Plus hopefully Jefferson comes on leaps and bounds this year we have our replacement, looking forward to see if he’s bulked up over the off season 💪🤞

Now bring back Jay Lockhart
