Whats the North trade for 5?

ROOS EYE PICKS BONANZA

North Melbourne is interested in a trade for Gold Coast’s pick 4 that would secure the Roos three of the top five picks in the national draft.

The Herald Sun understands the Bulldogs lead the chase for the Suns’ pick, having offered up picks 10, 17 and a future first-rounder in exchange.

The Dogs will have those first two picks swallowed up in a bid for father-son Jordan Croft so have to trade them out, and have strong interest in pint-sized mid-forward Nick Watson.

Adelaide and Melbourne can offer better deals than the Dogs’ 10 and 17, so the Dogs would have to throw in the future first-rounder to get a deal done.

The Roos have a good chance to secure a mid-first-round pick from the AFL Commission next week, so could offer picks 11 and 14 as a starting point for the Suns’ No.4 with a future selection thrown in.

It would give them picks 2, 3 (the Ben McKay compensation pick) and 5 – a perfect draft hand or a chance to go hunting for No.1 overall pick Harley Reid.

Fancy giving up 3 first rounders for a 170cm runt

Would be strange, especially considering Watson projects pretty similarly to Weightman (though that being said, multiple good small forwards is never really a bad thing)

Saw a post on twitter saying St Kilda may pickup some of Dylan Shiels contract so that Essendon have more cap space to pay Gresham more to net St Kilda band 1 pick.

Absolute mess and trash the AFL has turned into if it happens, our pick 13 will be pick 25 at this rate.
If that is true that completely undermines the integrity of free agency. AFL cannot approve something like this.

We could do the same, trade Grundy to Sydney and keep his numbers on our books. Then they pickup Jordan on 850kx5 year contract.

Band 1 to dees for Jordan FA and pick 22 for Grundy

Jordan and Grundy to swans for p22 and 850k a year

Dees get 5,13,14,22,24

Edwards continued his late season move up draft boards with a solid outing to help his Sandy Dragons win through to the Talent League grand final. This week his size, strength and speed allowed him to put on an impressive tackling display to go with 21 disposals and a goal.

I’d be very happy if Dogs trade up and take Watson.

Means 1 of Curtin and Duursma will get to our pick.
Wish that were the case, but it would likely just mean we'd be picking from Sanders, O'Sullivan and Caddy.

1 - Reid (WC)
2 - Walters (GC match)
3 - Curtin (NM)
4 - McKercher (NM - McKay compo)
5 - Duursma (Haw)
6 - Watson (WB)
7 - Us

Order of the above could change, but top five are pretty set IMO.

I get the system, but it still makes me ill that a team could get a talent like McKercher as compensation for a vanilla, injury-prone player like McKay

Yep it's majorly flawed, the same year we got pick 3 for frawley hawthorn got pick 19 or something for buddy but we were really terrible and hawthorn won the following 2 flags hence we got the better pivk. Obviously north are pretty terrible now but I reckon they'll be pretty good in a few years.

Wonder if we would trade up on draft night to get McKercher by giving up our picks to North, might depend on how many players they are after.

This is what I hope happens. Couldn't imagine many better fits than McKercher

Reminding me a bit of Max Holmes in his style and also that he’s had a late push up the boards.

I’d be ok if we used our second on him for sure.

Could trading our pick pick 5 (most likely pick 7 Draft night) and our pick 13 ( which could be 17+ on draft night)
And second round pick be worth trading to West Coast for their future first and second .
This years draft looks thin around our picks as we missing out on the cream. Next years draft is loaded with midfields and having lots of picks in a less comprised draft could get us a crop of young players coming through together.
Let’s be honest no 18yo we draft this years draft will help us in the finals next year. So we should future plan

Love some out of the box thinking (welcome to the board!), but I wouldn't be keen on this. We need to be getting some new talent in the door and developing as soon as possible – both for our immediate and long-term prospects.

Every year, the following draft is spoken about more favourably than the current one. We still have 2/3 strong picks this year, and whilst the draft drops off a bit after the top-five, there's still some good prospects in our range.

We'll also need to use our picks to fill out the list with all the (rumoured) outgoing players. Would rather we look at trading up rather than trading into the future if we don't fancy what is available.

Death, taxes and ‘experts’ claiming next years draft crop is super strong and this years has a good top 5 but no depth.

There is huge difference between top end talent talent and the draft range we will be picking this year. Yeah I know that always hear next years is better. But looking at the mids next year is a better we could snag one or two of them if we have lots of picks stacked .
