Interestingly Twomey was SEN just before saying that Hawthorns offer was slightly better from a cash perspective.

Still little doubt the Bombers contract will trigger band 1 though.
Would be a the most epic Dodorro move ever to calculate the precise amount to maintain band 2.

So..Ben McKay will be on over 800k a year? This is madness surely. Has shown very very little and has struggled to even stay on the park. It doesn't matter how average you are as a footballer, if you have height and size, there is $$$ to be made!

They were saying that the new salary cap levels mean bigger contracts are here.

McKays youngish age also plays into the ‘secret herbs and spices’ that make up the compo calculation.

But yes that is a lot of money for an average footballer.

Bit of a joke if compo doesn't take increased cap space into account

Would rather the AFL just come out and say we’re giving North a handout than going along with the pretense that Ben McKay is anywhere near band 1 compo worthy.

Should have been scrapped when the compo for Buddy was like pick 17.

With all these academy players now, father/sons etc, compo just adds to the farce that is the draft. Why are clubs being rewarded for not holding onto free agents? Other clubs have still got to fit the player into their salary cap. I think it was probably introduced exactly for this reason though. For the minnow clubs losing important players to the bigger clubs. Anyway, pick 3 for McKay is laughable. Just doesn't seem anywhere near right. Why can't it be end of first round instead of after the clubs first pick?

North have won 12 out of their past 84 games, so I’m not unsympathetic to the notion of them getting some assistance. But the AFL would rather fib and pretend like they’re not doing that anyway.
Would be smart if they gave some concessions on the soft cap to go along with just draft picks.

Help them actually develop and retain as opposed to just drag all the best kids in.

Can't imagine Clarkson has come cheap. IMO they will rocket up the ladder next year if they can find some defensive cover. Logue going down hurts them badly. Reckon they'll finish comfortably outside the bottom 4.

Dees need to package up pick 5 with players/picks and make a bold play for NAUGHTON before free agency next year.

No more excuses.

An get laughed at with any offer we come with.
Also **** Naughton. Bloke sucks at kicking goals

I’d be ok with Naughton but would play him primarily as a defender.

Would probably rather keep pick 5 and get him free next year too.

Bulldogs have had to go too tall in recent years so I’m surprised there hasn’t been more interest in getting some draft capital in exchange for Naughton.

For the sake of the argument, let's say we get 22 (without bids) for Grundy, end of 3rd round for JJ (57 without bids), and a pick between 30-50 for Harmes and/or Spargo. We have genuine ammo for Gold Coast's pick 4, in terms of points.

I think we would have enough to take a player with that pick, and still tempt the Dogs to part with Naughten by including our Future 1st. It would be a great outcome and not saying it will happen, but I would love it to.

So what are you proposing to fix the fwd line?
Get Petty back fit, play JVR and then change the way we kick the ball instead of going for hail Mary list wrecking trades that have no hope of happening

Yeah we don't need to sell the farm, the small sample of Petty forward was enough proof that we have something to work with. Also JVR will have another preseason in him and has shown glimpses of real talent. We clearly generated enough scoring opportunities in both finals but our method was really poor. Just look at what gws did last night, quick ball movement and could find targets everywhere.
