Blakey already gone from North probably add no value to our coaching panel.
Given nick didn’t follow him, Norf have decided he adds no value to their coaching panel either.

I would not be at all surprised if half the people who post here on players worth and their form over the past two or three years make such comments without ever watching said players actually play. Many here watch Swans games only yet they feel perfectly educated to make such comments based on what they have read, what statistics tell them and just because they feel the way they do.
I watch every single game in full, hence I feel I can make judgements based on what I've actually seen rather than what someone else has seen.
Having watched McKay in the 19 games he's played this year, I am totally convinced that he will do wonders for us next year and beyond. Everyone looks at the likes of Steven May as being a great FB but who has he had this year as support. Lever and Petty with Gawn dropping back to help out. Who has McKay had? Pretty well no-one unless you want to count an ageing Ziebell and an underwhelming Logue.
With the support of McCartin and to a lesser extent Melican, McKay will be a revelation for us. Together with Grundy, we will be right into flag contention.
But then again, I suppose we'll still have to read all the naysayers who would rather bring in second rate players who may end up being no more than reserve, because it may save us a few dollars.
You watched 19 of their matches!! How big is your therapy bill!

I sure there was some other take-out hidden in your post, but wow, just wow

… half the time he would be taking out our blokes or giving away frees and 50s.

Admittedly he was struggling when he returned from injury, but he made very little positive contribution in the 2s as a forward and then towards the end of the season in the ruck. At times he looked foolish, selfish and ill tempered. He was a country mile away from looking like a seniors’ standard player.
He is a bit goofy, I saw some signs when he first got to Sydney that he could be a serviceable fwd/ruck.

So, history suggests that a 29 year old quality ruck on a painfully long and expensive contract is worth pick 27. So, what is the value of a 30 year old quality ruck on a painfully long and expensive contract worth?
Beginners tip - not more
He was 28 when the Dees traded for him. Why does everyone keep adding multiple years in the 1 year? He’s not from Venus.

Oof. I feel for every player whose time is called by the Club.

There will be a number of folk in tears inc the coaching crew.

Each player will feel their dreams and the personal attachments to Club and the mates they have made crashing. I am confident the Club will manage this dire time as well as can be done. Other players will reach out.
Yeah, it's not an aspect I think about very often, but the way you describe it there sounds like it'd be a very painful feeling. Sad part is, that's the reality for a majority of kids that walk through a clubs doors.

Imagine the nervousness you'd have as you're approaching the end of the season and you know your name's likely to be on the list, but you're hoping against all odds that they've seen something in you that makes them decide to retain you. And then all your dreams crumble.

And for the coaches to have to have that conversation, especially with someone who's tried their hearts out but just couldn't cut it.

Ouch.

A player's value is a lot higher if there are 2 or 3 clubs chasing him than if there is only one.

Wow, thats dedication!!

What do you do when there's a clash of games, do you watch the replay, or just take the hit on the less interesting game?

And what do you do with yourself in the off-season. I watch 1-3 games a week, and I find the off season painfully long.

Looking at the draft and KPD, I wonder if we'd have a look past O'Sullivan (probably gone by our pick anyway) and Murphy, and have a look at Zane Zakostelsky? His name's come up a few times (most recently in the HSun Top 40 late August).

Claremont versatile bigman Zane Zakostelsky has bolted in draft contention after being invited to the AFL combine later this year.

The 196cm, 90kg Claremont product has only played football for the past two years after spending most of his childhood as a basketballer.

Zakostelsky, 17, started playing Colts this year as a ruckman but impressed with his athleticism before moving into defence where he showed strong signs for the WA under-18 side in this year’s championships.

He is one of 12 West Australians invited to the 2023 AFL Draft Combine that will be held in Melbourne from October 6 to 8.
I watched a bit of the Claremont vs Perth colts semi final on Sunday.

ZZ was (in my view) BoG. Remarkably fast and agile for a big bloke. Had more disposals than most midfielders.

He played in the ruck, but it was around the ground he was most impressive. Not many rucks could possibly go with him in a foot race.

We do tend to like the rapid improvers & ZZ is certainly that.

Clearly a Top prospect.

There were 5 clubs who wanted Grundy last year.

Once a player picks a club, how many teams wanted him has no relevance at all to his value.

Grundy gets to choose where he wants to play and then it is up to that team to offer enough in a trade that Melbourne don't think they are better off just keeping him - and all the baggage that goes with that.

You're still persisting with this nonsense. If St Kilda say to Steele "We want you to leave" and Steele says "I want to stay" and Saints then go to the market or "the trade table" and a Melbourne says "Yeah we want Steele" Steele might suddenly say "Oh well in that case yeah I'm happy to go". Or maybe it's Sydney and Steele says "Yeah I actually loved living up there, I'd love to join the Swans". You can keep digging this hole all you want about this conceptual trade table but if you seriously think no club shops players around you're dreaming.

I've since actually listened to Cornes and all he said was that the Saints need to come up with some draft capital to get Henry across and one of their only assets who is arguably superfluous to needs but carries a lot of capital is Steele, but that you wouldn't trade him because he's the captain. You've made a big deal out of nothing as I find tends to happen with anything Cornes says.

This is like arguing with someone who think 2+2=5.

Steele is a contracted player. If St Kilda want him to leave, he picks a team. St Kilda negotiate with that team.

There is no bidding, shopping, or trade tables as far as St Kilda is concerned. They might try and find a team that is interested on his behalf, but that has nothing to do with them leveraging trade offers.

And I don't know where to start with Cornes suggesting St Kilda trade Steele to get a draft pick to give for Henry. You should go run that brilliant idea by the St Kilda board.

noobermensch has compiled his highlights from the 2 Colts finals:

"Although conceding the height advantage to his opponent, ZZ came out on Top in his ruck battle against Coen Livingston, winning the hit outs and exerting more influence around the ground."

It is, but not in the way you think. Keep going all you want, I'm done.

We should put Heeney on the imaginary trade table.

If we don't get any good offers, take him off. He'll understand.

He'd be annoyed, what even are you trying to say now? You've moved the goal posts so much you're kicking own goals now.

I'm a footy fanatic and whichever games I can't watch live, I watch on replay. These are the things you can do when retired.
Granted, watching the north and WC games was not great entertainment, I do so so that I know what happened in that game rather than just reading a half page in the herald sun about it.
As a result, I feel I'm in a far better place to make judgement on McKay than anyone else here.

Watch replays during the week whilst sitting at home with nothing else to do.
