Settle a debate(/argument?) I was having with someone the other day - how much would he be on salary wise? Person I was discussing with claimed ditching Stephens would give us $4-500k cap room, I said no more than $200k.

I’d say in between the two first round picks aren’t on pocket change as a guess I’ll say 300 odd. 400 to 500 seems way too high

I'm excited about Grundy but realistically I need to expect his output will be like when Spider joined us.

He'll be more than serviceable and lift the team but not the game winning star he once was
He doesn't need to be. He just needs to help enable the stars we have be offensive starts instead of defensive stars so don't start every offensive move from a turn over in the D50

Might also mean less goals from D50 stoppages which killed us

not gonna lie, the thought of not conceding goals from stoppages got me a little excited

Picture it:

It's the last 15 seconds of the 2nd quarter. Swans in the defensive 50. Throw in. Grundy gets his hands to it, straight to Rowbottom who snaps the ball out of congestion down the line. The ball gets spoiled across the line with 5 seconds well outside the D50. Sydney avoid conceding another junk time goal.

I'm all hot and bothered now

In what world are we getting a second round pick for him.
Why do us, as Swans fans always take the pessimistic option?

First we were wanting to give up a first rounder for Grundy.

Now we are dismissive of attempting to get fair value for Stephens.

Former pick 5, 40 odd games, 22yrs old and ready to explode under the right system.

Last year the AFL assistance package gave 2nd round picks for North to trade for players. If they do something similar this year, Stephen’s will be a 2nd round pick trade. I don’t think it’s that hard to understand.

If us fans are not demanding more, how can we expect the club? There is a lot to play out obviously but there is a world where Stephens (a former first rounder) is worth a second round pick.

Fair value? Stephens is a spud, what on earth makes you think fair value is a second round pick?

We have traded out a lot of players in the last 8 years. When was the last time you felt like we didn't get under value?

Looking back Hanners we got a very good deal but it sure didn't feel like it at the time

Fair few years younger than Everitt (who was 32 turning 33) when he was traded to us.

I have posted numerous times earlier on the subject.

Former 1st rounder, pick 5, 40 odd games, 22yrs old and ready to play good footy in the right system.

Played finals and a GF, decent experience for a young player, something North don’t have.

If North have offered 4yrs, they obviously see something in him too.

Therefore 2nd rounder is fair value.

The kicker is, that if North get a similar AFL assistance package, we will get a 2nd rounder for him.

What set of steak knives are you wanting in return?

We have talked about Dawson previously.

Aliir was cheap, Hewitt too.

Paid too much for Ladhams.

I think a big contested ball winning mid is a greater need than a kpd.

If we are somehow able to get that Gold Coast pick, and if north don’t have access to him, I’d be picking Sanders over O’Sullivan. Kid looks a jet and a perfect complement to our defensive mids (rowbottom, mills) and smaller outside mids (Errol, chad)

I'd like a 2nd rounder, which is fair value.

But you (and others) haven't explained why North have to offer fair value.

Assuming Fisher talks go OK, they could just walk Stephens to the PSD with no risk, unless Eagles publicly state they would take him. Eagles won't risk bringing in a Victorian for 4 years, who might be unhappy being whisked away to WA without any notice instead of his home state.

I think a top quality KPD draftee is our greatest need, but I've said before if we ended up with Sanders somehow then I'll shut up (unless we don't pick one up later).

Norf will match on Sanders.

Hanners was obviously cooked. It was a good trade result for Dan and us.

We have kept some former greats beyond their use by date. I really hope Club and players are smarter in future, as we were with Dan.

If Twomey is right & this is (another) shallow draft, whatever we get for Stephens might be worthless, given we already have a first & two second round picks.

It just feels like we’ll get reamed on this one, whilst North get a cheap Stephens, pick 3 as compo for McKay + dodgy NGA concessions + god knows what else from the AFL.

Life ain’t fair sometimes.

I reckon Eagles would take him and with North allegedly offering 4yrs they will want to get a trade completed.

North can see his value and as you have said a 2nd rounder gets this deal done. They won’t want to risk going to PSD.

If the afl assistance is similar to last year, North will have 2nd round picks that need trading for players and we are in pole position.

Dyl has never lived there in Melbourne. The Eagles are very keen to rebuild and Dyl would fit their rebuild age profile.

Agreed, most umpiring in finals against us, is testament to that.

I think North are really keen on Stephens and will want to get a deal done, let’s see how it plays out.

If they get similar assistance this year as last year, we will get a 2nd rounder back. No reason why they shouldn’t get a similar package.

North and GC keep getting rewarded for being badly run. Sooner or later some chickens need to come home to roost.
