You are making definite statements that he does it with every clearance he has, but he doesn't

It's not an opinion, it's fact, his disposal is by far, worse of any of our starting 5 mids.

In tight he is fine, open play he isn't effective defensively

All players have crucial moments, Dow's are no better than others. You are also completely ignoring his turnovers

I don't change my opinion based on what people share, I'll base it in what I see

Someone mentioned that if you lined up all our mids to hunt a loose ball, that he would get there first, yet, stats suggest he is behind all our 5 starting mids for ground ball gets for minutes played

Opinions are a wonderful thing

Once again i will move on, and allow posters who are claiming Dow being this massive point of difference to continue with that view, I see it very differently
No filter I know of does it by minutes played. His averages are lower he's played as sub. Feels disengenuous. As far as I can tell quickly his rateof ground ball get is equivalent of the top 4 and better than Kennedy's. Probably a reflection of the time early season Kennedy spent out of the midfield too.

Going to be as cold as a Siberian Winter on Friday Night apparently. Nothing is going to stop me from going though. As Friday approaches, I am getting more nervous and excited
Layering Elmer.
Some good lightweight thermals will help plus the scarf and beanie.

I did work it with average TOG, which takes into account all minutes played for the year

Geez some people overate Kennedy , good player but don’t make out like he is leaps and bounds better than Dow .. both decent players. I would play Dow for 2 reasons … it’s a final and Kennedy has not played for 2 months and I feel you can only play one of hewitt or Kennedy and hewitt has been playing well

Gold Coast game 100% 2nd quarter he had 8 touches & 215m gained - triple any other player, 2i 50 & a goal assist. He & Acres were in everything, they lead the fight back & got Charlie the ball. Final quarter he smashed the centre clearances early, he was in the right spot at the right time, doing the right things when we needed him most.
And one again he didn't get coaches votes from either coach - so neither coach had him in the 5 most influential players on the ground.

The purpose is not to denigrate him but to refute the post that stated that we wouldn't have won either game without him playing. Because with a decent replacement (e.g. Cerra) we most certainly would have.

Why can't we be respectful of both? They both have some special qualities. Kennedy was fabulous before injury.
Dow has stood up, and been wonderful for us.

I am respectful .. I said both are good players .after 8 pages of debating it , I gave my opinion how I feel .. the only people i was disrespectful too are the people overating Kennedy and I apologise to them… also if you haven’t noticed it’s a public based opinion forum

Kennedy is a better mark, better kick, better tackler, better hands off the ground and can play forward. Dow is quicker, has better evasion skills and extracts the ball more often. If Kennedy was a little quicker, there wouldn't be a conversation.

If it's wet on Friday night though, the ability to get a step on opponents in the wet will be handy and disposal isn't going to be as big a factor. Ground ball gets and tackling probably will be.

You are correct though. We can't play Kennedy and Hewett in the same side, particularly as Cripps is a walk up start and Cerra isn't very quick either. We will need Dow's run at some point, possibly subbing for a big guy at some point, whether tactically or by necessity.

wheelo gives some good options that I like that have some 'equalisation' to them; centre clearances per cba, score involvement %, disposals per turnover, metres gained per disposal, etc.

FWIW, only looking at CBA mids/mid-fwds

CC/CBA (%)
  1. Dow 20.0
  2. Fog 17.1
  3. Kennedy 13.7
  4. Cerra 13.3
  5. Cripps 12.9
  6. Docherty 8.7
  7. Hewett 7.5
  8. Walsh 7.2
  9. Cuningham 4.0

MG/Disp
  1. Dow 21.8
  2. Doc 16.4
  3. Cerra 15.0
  4. Fog 13.7
  5. Kennedy 13.6
  6. DC 12.0
  7. Walsh 11.0
  8. Cripps 10.5
  9. Hewett 9.3

Disp/TO
  1. Cripps 8.6
  2. Hewett 7.3
  3. Cerra 7.0
  4. Walsh 6.5
  5. Fog 6.4
  6. Kennedy 6.2
  7. DC 5.9
  8. Doc 5.4
  9. Dow 4.7

SI %
  1. Walsh 28.8
  2. Cripps 27.7
  3. Cerra 27.0
  4. Doc 22.4
  5. Fog 19.9
  6. Kennedy 18.5
  7. Dow 17.6
  8. Hewett 17.1
  9. DC 15.2

Kind of obvious, but Dow kills it in CC/CB & MG/D but struggles in the others. Hewett does well in that TO category, but has way less MG. Walsh, Cripps, & Cerra the standouts in SI%. Fog must have had a bad game, from memory he was maybe 0.5 behind Dow on the CC/CBA a week or so back.

Shout out to Cerra, 4th in the CC/CBA and 3rd in every other category. Not a bad example of how rounded his game is.

It's a pretty shallow look at it, only a few stats that let you look at it as a percentage or rate, and some of them aren't really applicable to midfielders. and can't be bothered to export the full data set and use the TOG average to standardise everyone's individual numbers for ground ball gets, score launches, etc.

But you want to play the poster on the way out?

My content regarding disposal efficiency isn't an opinion, it's statistical fact, worse of our starting 5 mids

So before you consider replying, do some research and perhaps park the personal attacks

I see you're playing the victim now. Any time you put words in my mouth, quote me out of context or manipulate my words I consider that a personal attack and will address it as such. But Im sure you're completely aware of what you're doing.

Quoting factual stats and being accused of an arrogant opinion?

Focus on the content rather than the poster

Think we are done, unless you want to debate content

No we're not done. You didn't quote stats at all you put up what read as an opinion. Let me tell you disposal efficiency is the most useless stat to follow I saw fisher miss a target completely and the ball roll to the outer wing where there was no one. It was marked an effective disposal.

Dow's influence has been there for all to see, when it's mattered most. If you don't see it good for you. But to say he's got terrible awareness :tearsofjoy: and BY FAR the worst disposer of all our mids based on disposal effficiency is a big a big joke. And that's my opinion.

Now we can move on.

Hurry up Friday, I’m dying here…

Facts are, he does have the worst disposal compared to our starting 5 mids, it's irrefutable

Never said his awareness was terrible, another untruth

Back to game, don't think selection will play a major role In this game, think we win

Heading to the Pullman hotel before hand to hear Cookies speech then off to the big one I can’t wait for us to smash them early pleeeeeeeeese
