After such a down year on our end, it wouldn't surprise me at all if our club goes after bringing Dew back. Pyke and Cox seem to have some interest from other clubs rumoured so may well be an opening and Dew has strong links at our club dating back a long time.

As Callipygian has mentioned in another thread I hope it may open up an opportunity for Rhyce Shaw to come back to the Swans.

Pass on Dew and Shaw. We have enough former Swans people at the Swans - we need outside voices from those that do things differently and have prepared over a long period of time how to beat the Swans but also understand what Swans do well to frustrate other teams.

Pyke had a huge impact helping John transition to the kicking game style. John was already moving there at the time but was less polished, but an external voice clearly made a big difference.

You say that like Dew hasn't been someone who has prepared to beat us, then done it, even while we were the better team.

Shaw was a great coach of our reserves, handed a hopeless gig at North, I wouldn't mind seeing him back.

I don't deny that but surely an even more external perspective will be better? How much of that also was he knew what playstyle Swans hated playing against?

Dew and Shaw wouldn't have the same immediate impact as a Pyke

Wait, you're making an argument there that former Swans coaches can be good to learn from?

Proof that Dew and Shaw couldn't have an impact like Pyke? I assume by that you mean our newish attacking gamestyle which started without Pyke in 2020, or the improvement in 21-22 which had nothing to do with the early impact of certain draftees, a new ruck, and returning injured players.

I do find it very interesting that, if Hardwick takes on the GC job, the two most successful coaches of the past 10 years will have gone from coaching their clubs to three premierships to two of the least successful clubs of the last 10 years in North and Gold Coast. Not sure it means anything other than money talks and these coaches are proud people who will take on a challenge or if the clubs who signed them up were desperate for a big name whom they could claim will lead them forward out of uncertainty. Interesting nevertheless.

I'm going to be very interested to see how Hardwick goes up there. He wasn't exactly considered a great coach until the Richmond hierarchy (who are one of the best in the business) got the right support around him. The Gold Coast will be a very unique challenge for someone with the resources Hardwick had to draw on.

He and Clarkson imo appear to be both heavy-duty personality types who wear on people. Winning cures all so if they win, then people will accept it, but if they struggle to win without good structure around them to keep them in check, it might go south quickly. I'd be wanting a very experienced footy boss and CEO alongside Hardwick, especially with a chairman who is new in the job.

Dew and Shaw have already been here before, just move on. I wouldnt rehire someone at my workplace if theyve moved on and I heard they were on the hunt again. There’s plenty out there the whole point of growing

Even while we were bottom 4, there was a transition to a faster attacking game style. It wasn’t tidy or polished. There was a clear improvement when Pyke had joined the Swans

If past employees were good at a company, and were available again, don't consider them? Ok... I'm not even saying to get them back, just seems like an odd starting point.

I don't doubt Pyke had an impact, but the claim was he was clearly better than anything the others could bring. The thing he is touted for started beforehand, and any further improvement also coincided with returns from injury troubled years of some of our better players (Buddy, Heeney, Rampe, JPK), as well as the emergence of recent draftees, TMac as a KPD, Blakey as a HB, and a journeyman ruck who surprised.

Is there plenty out there for us though? In the past the club have bemoaned the challenge of getting good football people to relocate to a non football state.

Assistant coaches often have school-aged children and strong roots that make moving to Sydney a poor life choice.

Gold Coast were my 2nd favourite team - I live just south of there (couldn't ever live there - its a freak show!) and really like a few of their players.
I f***n hate Dimma. He bailed from a sinking Richmond after trying to keep contending with trades that didn't work (Hawthorn/Clarkson esq).. now hes gonna jump on the highly talented gold coast team. Self-centered arrogant d**khead.
Dusty won those flags, not Dimma!
Ill be writing to the Suns in support of Dew and ANTI Dimma.

I know Dimma and he is far from all of that , he was absolutely knackered .
I want GC to be successful , but with white ants like Wayne Campbell they won't work
