Ratugolea’s been impressive. There’s a drill where the ball is kicked long to the goal square to a contest between a tall defender and tall forward. Ratugolea hasn’t been beaten in a contest. In fact he’s out marked his opponent, including Dixon, a few times. Also his recovery when the ball hits the ground is impressive.
HE'S LIKE A MIDFIELDER WHEN THE BALL HITS THE GROUND

For those that are there, some tidbits about my past and future buddies would be much appreciated:
  • Mead
  • Hugh Jackson
  • McCallum
  • Any of the new guys, too

Not surprised he's touching up Dixon.

Isn't that why we were interested in him in the first place? He always played well against BigDix™?

Ah yes, the measuring stick of all forwards.

Just a few observations:

Ratugolea plays like a natural defender, his technique is very good. Plays in front, but keeps contact one on one and marks or spoils. When the ball hits the ground, his recovery is exceptional, he pounces on the loose ball and rebounds strongly. Physically is a beast.

BZT was mismatched on several occasions, but showed good technique and managed to at least halve most contests.

Physically Hugh Jackson reminded me of Hamish Hartlett, similar build at that age and running style.

The all new slimmed down Dixon appeared to run and lead better and take the ball in front of the eyes with arms extended. Still doesn't look natural to him but good to see him working on it.

Lord on the other hand does the same thing like it's second nature. The arms extend out just before the moment of impact and take the ball cleanly in flight.

Scully looks stronger and worked hard with Aliir as his opponent. His mobility is a weapon, totally outpointed Aliir in the air at one contest.

Mead was working with the A-team centre square mids - Soldo, JHF, Butters, Rozee.

Williams looks really fit and strong and so balanced and composed.

There was a great marking contest between two young bulls in Jones and Bergman which was fittingly halved.

Soldo moves very well, not sure about these comparisons to the Queen Mary. Also delivers the ball well on the run.

Sweet looks superfit, but the group he was working in was a bit far away to keep a close eye on.

Finlayson looked more competitive than he did late last season.

The guns did the usual.

It was interesting to see some of the really big guys have trimmed down, but some of the younger players have added some functional muscle.

McCallum, Marshall and Georgie all worked away from the main group, ran laps and did some sideways movement one on one with the fitness people.

Didn't see Charleson or Anastasopolous at all. They may have been out there, but on the other side of the oval.

In the length of the ground drill, the emphasis seemed to be on a long kick in and running in waves forward from the wing, keeping the ball moving.

How did Tom Jonas look?

He had plantar fasciitis issues at the start of last year, maybe wasn't fully over it last season?

Now he's had the chance to rest it, and isn't in a banged up state.

Soldo looks like he has trimmed down a bit too. Looked reasonably mobile for a big guy to me.

Ford Fairlane

In the match sim that was Hartlett wearing 42 in white wasnt it? Jackson doesnt have tatts does he?

I thought that was Narkle, he's taken over 42. Jackson was wearing 39.

They still can't get the Hinkley stench out
I hear they are blasting everything with female cat urine as they prefer the smell over Hinkley and it's the only thing strong enough.
