Well it isnt a contract year for the coach, so nothing on the line.Over the past few weeks I've just had this growing feeling in my bones that we're set for a bit of a step backwards this year. Just feel like the Hinkley era malaise after a high finishing year will again hit us next year, and we'll bomb out of the 8. Don't have significant reason, it's just a gut feel.
Just wish we had a new coach and that spark of enthusiasm we need to take that next step on and off field as a club.
I enjoy the Will Lorenz shoutout at the end - getting through the intensity of the preseason camp with minimal fuss sounds like we've got a lot to build from with him as he puts size on. Might be a sneaky chance to debut this year... We're always looking for good delivery.Head of Physical Performance Stuart Graham speaks to the media at Alberton Oval.
Yep, I liked hearing about the fitness work Burgoyne and JHF had put in. Burgoyne is a really important player for us going into this year.Good to hear positive news on a lot of guys like Wines, Burgoyne, Farrell and Horne-Francis.
I disagree. I'm very confident that if we don't make finals in 2024 he won't be coaching in 2025. i'm not sure why i feel it will be different this time but i think that he has run out of excuses now.Because Hinkley’s job is safe until 2025, there’s going to be no incentive for us to win in 2024.
I guarantee you we won’t win as many close games as we did last year.
People have been saying this since 2018 lolI disagree. I'm very confident that if we don't make finals in 2024 he won't be coaching in 2025.
Very true, but it still feels different this time for me. The demotion to the bench and Hinkley crying after Swans win, and carrying on like a pork chop after every win from there until he got his contract suggested to me that he was under more pressure in 2023 than he had ever been before. Plus we only gave him the bare minimum 2 year deal (you don't seem to come across many 1 year deals) and there has been enough noise around Josh Carr and succession plans/coach in waiting to suggest that there is probably some truth to that too.People have been saying this since 2018 lol
That "crying" after the Sydney game was oscar nomination material. His wipe away of "tears" was so perfectly timed too, right on cue - when the camera was on him.Very true, but it still feels different this time for me. I still don't understand how anyone was excited at the end of the Sydney game. It was like being the best loser. We gave up the lead once in the dying minutes, then in a position where we had the game absolutely won we somehow gifted them an end to end transition and easy mark inside 50. It was all just horrendous stuff. Match losing stuff. The fact we got lucky and they couldn't make the distance didn't suddenly take away from the fact we completely fluffed it. Was the worst win I can remember.

At the moment I can't even get half a bar. There is a definite malaise when trying to work out how we will do next year.
There is the unfortunate history of the team playing for the coach and they did so "admirably" last year but playing for your coach doesn't really allow you to win, just keep your job. So the team technically has no real reason to provide any extra impetus as the coach is back on year one of a new contract and coasting on easy street. This is a huge red flag that our form will dip considerably next year.
However, the team finished 3rd last year and internally has gargantuan room for improvement with the likes of Wines, Bergman, Lachie Jones, Soldo, Ratugolea, Zerk-Thatcher, Burgoyne, Georgiades, Sinn and Lord and you never know who else. Also, our four top players of Rozee, Butters, Horne-Francis and Houston are all match winners. We also have a new, ,young, bold leadership group filled with our best players.
I get the feeling it might take a bit of time for new players or players adjusting to an unfamiliar role but after that, we should be moving forward.
If we had a new coach, the excitement metre would be on 10 bars.
At the moment I can't even get half a bar.
I set them up and you knock them down.At the moment I can't even get half a bar.
I can't believe how quickly Rucci's article annihilated my sentiments.I know it's preseason and I know it's the Fitness Coach but it was refreshing to have a press conference without hyperbole, ducking and weaving, broad promises and your generic propaganda.
Just a straight down the line assessment of how the boys have come back, how they are travelling and a few names who are doing well. Simple, humble stuff.
