Deficiencies that are of the coaches own making as he refused to play and develop young players in those positions while he gave a *load of games to cooked underperforming players in the same positions (see lycett / Jonas) and traded away young players in those positions as well.
I hope Esava shoots the lights out, but if he just produces his Geelong ups & downs it'll still be an issue.

I hope Esava shoots the lights out, but if he just produces his Geelong ups & downs it'll still be an issue.

I think he will have a bump in performance, based purely on he’s coming into his prime age wise and career games under his belt wise, playing with a deep set of key defenders next to an all-Aus level back in Alir also in his prime , and team that on paper should be top 1-4, and a gameplan that floods the midfield allowing our backs to pick off pressured hack kicks (at the cost of our offense also having to pick through that flooded midfield).

The problem is when that bump happens what is the very ****ing least we should be expecting will be celebrated like it’s some massive achievement by the near enough is good enough brigade. If pasini or Howard were kept on the list until esavas age (well longer than they got until they were booted) we would also expect better than what esava served up last year at Geelong to as a pass mark.

The good thing about Esava is he can gaurd space , he’s not as easily moved out of the way as McKenzie who had to play really close to his opponent while also being undersized .
So structurally he’s a good get , time will tell but you can’t deny it’s a good piece of recruiting with Zerk Thatcher they’ve replaced the aging Jonas and McKenzie , both warriors but also punching out of their weight division , BZT might be good playing on a Marshall type for example and Esava would take the Dixon type .
Continuing on with the previous theme , I guess the biggest challenge now is the mental toughness and player management, that’s where we’ll sink or swim

But was it a ollie wines type of day? I demand to know.

Also almost every day is training day for an AFL player you scum sucking cuck social media parasite.

If we are serious this year, we really need to start with a bang and dominate our preseason matches. Everyone always say preseason matches mean nothing but i feel like they set the tone for the season. We need to come out and smoke the crows and then smoke freo

Na. I couldn't give a shit what we do until September.

Gotta get to September and the best way to do that is with a strong start to the season. The last couple years we’ve been terrible in the pre season and it’s showed in the first few rounds. Even last year you take out the round 1 win against an admittedly hapless Brisbane we were poor. Felt like it took until gather round to really get going last year and 2022 speaks for itself.

Omg kick it ffs

In all seriousness though, bring on a slower start, a mid pack finish at bye rounds and a late surge just for something different. Don't go 0-5 obviously but also don't be top of the ladder in round 14 😓

Port play the 'disappointing child that's never good enough' role in my family. Hard role to play. Makes my real kids look like hero's. Cheers to another year of this abusing relationship we have. We exist to be toxic.

The pack of cigarettes you're not really trying to stop buying, despite the health risks.

Role changes: Having replenished their key defensive stocks through the trade period the Power will shift Tom Clurey to a wing, in a last-ditch bid to find him a spot at senior level. That would allow Ollie Wines to move back into the midfield, attending just 50 per cent of centre bounces in 2023 after being there for 74 per cent in his 2021 Brownlow season. Travis Boak will claim one wing with Josh Sinn, Jase Burgoyne, Jackson Mead, Hugh Jackson and Clurey fighting for the other spot (though Sinn has also spent time at halfback). “We thought we’d give Tom the time to try out the wing and see if it works for him and he’s doing some good stuff up there,” Tyson Goldsack explained in January.“If he was just to be a tall defender, we’re probably starving him of opportunities where he could otherwise get a game. If Ollie has to chop out on a wing, then he’ll do that but we’re prioritising inside mid.”

Who’s ‘tearing up the track’: Port’s new No.7 Jase Burgoyne has added 5kg to his frame and impressed with some solid gut running while being placed in the stronger team during a January match simulation, on the opposing wing to Travis Boak. That same probables-type side notably featured Ollie Wines, not Willem Drew, in the midfield quarter alongide Connor Rozee, Zak Butters and Jason Horne-Francis.

Injury latest: It looks like Mitch Georgiades is well on the path back, joining the main training group on Wednesday though he was designated for no contact. Ivan Soldo got his first match simulation hitout as he recovers from a second finger surgery since the season ended. Charlie Dixon remains on the sidelines, literally, kicking and running on the fringes of the ground and hoping for a return to drills on Friday amid an adductor issue.

Match simulation (live on Kayo): Adelaide at Alberton Oval, 5:30pm Friday February 23
Pre-season game (live on Fox Footy, Kayo): Fremantle at Alberton Oval, 8pm Friday March 1

I must say I interpreted the Clurey wing positioning as

"we're concentrating on our
defenders from last year, plus Esava, BZT, then theres Karshall and McCallum....so we will just put Tom on a wing because we need to have him somewhere for training drills, and it would probably be the least disruptive position of any to put him during pre season .....plus he provides some defensive pressure at training to the more legitimate wing contenders such as Burgoye Lorenz, Charleson, Sinn etc.."

Na. I couldn't give a s**t what we do until September.
I don't agree. You have to be switched on in January to be switched on in September. Skills and game plan can be refined during the season, but the killer attitude needs to be there from day 0. Our squad has demonstrated season after season that they are not capable of just switching on when it matters.

lol Dixon with a groin injury. Why the **** did we re-sign him. He's a big dickhead AND his body is shot AND he is not that good.

Give him two years because he clipped the supporters in an interview for being upset with another shitty finals loss!
