We have to fit Houston, Jones, Williams, Bergman, Burton and Farrell into 3-4 half back/ back pocket positions in our best 22. Surely one of them plays wing.
Burgman screams elite mid potential, Wing as an apprenticeship and with his long kicking ability, good over head and natural gut running abilities he could very well be a Matera/Bradley influencing wingman.

Williams and Farrell look likely types to be able to deliver the footy inside 50, have they a second and/or third gear and the ability to gut run?

I don’t mind the idea of Clurey on a wing, but what’s our SANFL Key Defensive depth looking like?

McKenzie, Clurey and Kyle Marshall, and Walsh as a swingman.

I don't mind the talk of Georgiades on a wing in today's paper.

It is hard to fit him in the forward line with Marshall Dixon/Lord and Finlayson, especially given a need for more ground level players in the wet. Plus the wing allows him to run in straight lines more.

Wing is about transition. Mitch's marking provides a great outlet from defence. There would be very few wingmen in the AFL who could compete in the air with Mitch.

Which leads me to why I quoted RangaInTeal's post. Bergman is also great in the air and having him on the other wing to Mitch would be a huge advantage over opposition. It means we have outlets from defence to the left or right and as RangaInTeal rightly points out, we have an oversupply in defence: 3 talls means 4 spots for small to medium defenders out of Houston, Bergman, Jones, Burton, Farrell and Williams with (Sinn, McKenzie and McCallum in reserve too- and what DBJ is doing in the forward 50 is still unclear after a full year).

One of Georgiades and Bergman on a wing would be good- two would be great.

I hope we dont play 3 talls in defence, which teams actually run 3 KPFs? Much prefer if we learn from Collingwood/Brisbane and play 2 KPDs like Andrews/Payne or Moore/Murphy with a 3rd defender who is able to back them up in the air (Howe/Lester).

For us that'd be Aliir/Esava + Jones/Burton/Bergman (if hes in defence again)

Clurey to wing is surely because we don't want him and McKenzie taking up 2 KPD roles in the SANFL at 30+. And McKenzie is the better depth option if there's an injury to an AFL KPD, so he stays back.

Don't see him playing there in the AFL side over other options.
If that's the reason they're playing Clurey there, I'd actually rather see McKenzie on the wing instead

Mitch Georgiades

He’s already shown a fair bit, but on return from an ACL injury Mitch Georgiades could be poised to soar to a new level in 2024. He spent some time on a wing in Port Adelaide’s recent match simulation, so it could be a hybrid role for the 22-year-old and one he could flourish in. By all reports Georgiades is back to full fitness, with full contact training the last box to be ticked before he returns. He’s kicked 65 goals from his 49 games but the former top 20 pick has had time to recalibrate while on the sidelines and made the decision to recommit to the club despite interest from West Australia. Ivan Soldo and Jordon Sweet add competition in the ruck-forward brigade for Georgiades, but if he makes a wing move it could help him stand apart.

Spot on. This outlines how poor our list management has been for KPD. Having to 30+ undersized key defenders playing SANFL is very poor. Rate McKenzie a better. Defender, but with Clurey longer contract and few years younger it was probably easier to not extend McKenzie at end of last season. We actually signed McKenzie before finals last year. Can’t understand why we didn’t wait till after draft/trade to make a decision on McKenzie.

You can't delist a superior player because you made a dumb decision to give a long term contract to an inferior player lol.
It happens sometimes. We tried to shop Clurey round, if we did get a buyer for a token pick then sure give Trent another year. But if either of these guys play more than 8 AFL games this year we should be worried. Trent last 2 seasons have been terrible, he has too much credit in the bank from 2021 and being a trier. If u watch from behind the goals he can not change directions, how many times you see him trailing the leading forward with his hands on his head after they have taken an uncontested chest mark. Good in straight lines and puts his body on the line. Reckon he will slow up more and get toweled up in the SANFL this year.

Hi peeps, was wondering whether the preseason games v crows & dockers will be televised in any way ?

Salary cap sometimes says you must.

I'm a huge fan of tall wings.

And if anyone didn't know already, you can get 12 Month Kayo basic subscription with Port's On Demand membership for $25/pm

which is $10 cheaper than actually getting it from Kayo
I was paying $25 a month from Kayo (they offered me a reduction from $30 at some stage). I went to cancel it and before the final cancel button they offered it to me for $20 a month. I will probably still cancel at some stage though because I dont particularly care if I cant watch Port this season.
