I like that we're not relying on a tagger. Never liked lockdown mid roles - teams that have multiple elite avenues just play through the non-defended players like Brisbane were able to do when Drew held Neale to 19 disposals.

A midfield of Butters, Rozee, JHF, Wines should scare the daylights out of other coaches. Make them defend us.

We just don't have that obvious winger on both sides of the paddock.

Everyone has questions marks, I just think Powell-Pepper has the least but I probably wouldn't move him unless we were desperate.

I personally would go young with Burgoyne, Bergman, Sinn and then probably Farrell.

The good news is that it won't be as bad as last year.
Surely can get 4-7 games into Jackson

Yeah I really hope we don't muck around with Drew or Wines to the wings, we'd just be weakening our side doing that. Pretty pi*sed tbh that we're this late in the pre season and still don't actually have a duurs replacement.

Faz, Burgoyne, Jackson?, Sinn, should be our options.

Leave him in the forward line to create chaos

The question mark I have on SPP is his finals record.. needs a big finals series.

We have to take a pretty good look at him.

I was a big fan when we drafted him and from all accounts, he is worth playing to see what he can do.

The more midfielders the better and BF moderator reports are all thumbs up.

Like Bergman, he would give a different look in the midfield which is always worthwhile.

Because our talent is so insanely high in the midfield, we should go head to head whenever we can but it is nice to have a tagger in the back pocket. They can help win games. Drew has impacted winning with defensive tagging.

We don't use our wings in an orthodox, typical way. We don't possess the ball that much and we don't play wide - as a result, most of our ball movement comes from half-backs.

It's why there is a preference to put the designated kickers/ball movement guys like Farrell, Houston, Bergman at half-back and not on the wings. It's also why our wings consistently struggle to get much of the ball and have much impact under this game plan. Pretty much everyone who had a go last year didn't put up good stats.

Our wings essentially play as a +1 either behind the ball or at stoppage and its why there is a tendency to put player like Wines, Boak, Drew, Burgoyne, Clurey etc there, because even though they might not be suited as 'traditional' wingers, they are suited to play as a +1 at stoppage or a +1 behind the ball.

The speedy kickers will be put at half-back.

Dixon should've retired. End of story. Another student from the Hinkley school of "I'm bigger than the club".
At the AGM they gave the excuse for shitting the bed in finals as being undersized/undermanned in defence, as if it was totally not their fault for pumping games into a cooked Jonas and banged up McKenzie over the past few years instead of developing the next generation coming through.

This year's excuse will be the same except for being undermanned in the tall forward department as we pump games into glass ankles Charlie while playing Georgiades on the wing and Lord and Scully in the twos.

We've had an undersized defence for literally Hinkley's entire tenure. It's never previously been offered up as an excuse for failure. In fact, they made one of those undersized defenders captain and he made the All Australian squad multiple times.

Just more excuses from this excuse factory masquerading as a football club. They are utter losers.

Wasn't creepy Kenny's excuse about poor Jonas being undersized just pathetic? As if the undersized defence was totally out of his control. Did you enjoy his and Davies' overuse of the word "young" during their respective spiels?

This "young" theory gets put to bed everytime they release the average age of all teams, Port always sits around middle of the list.

Dixon says he's here to " just hang around"

Great

he's the first player-influencer in the league. his job is more about "creating awareness" and launching an XXX PAFC calendar with a sprinkling of 2 goal 3 behind appearances

At the AGM they went with "2nd youngest team IN THE FINALS" LOLOLOL
Poor deluded fools.
Preview of the 2024 excuse: our list demographics just aren't optimal for finals success yet.

Seeing as we don't always have ur wingmen adopting traditional roles, could a strategy be to play a taller player on one wing, as an easy chop-out marking option from exitting defence of from kickouts?

Play a smaller, quicker, more conventional 2--way running guy on the opposite wing.

Im very exited to see soldo, at the family day i had a tour of the MG high performance building, and chad cornes was answering questions saying how mobile and elite soldo is at covering the ground, and even said that he has been taking losts of marks behind the ball to help out our defenders.

Early call for All Australian and a great mentor for Dante.

Seeing as Williams is probably on the fringe, I would rather Williams have a permanent spot in the back and then push Burton up to the wing.
