Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Except he's been playing the KPF role instead. Would be nice to see how it worked with even a half functional midfield.
He needs to play the CHF role and float up the ground, get to the contests, provide marking options etc. Ideally he would float forward to create mismatches and score that way. He is not a KPF and we are wasting his potential in that position.

In an ideal world yes. But any KPF we did draft it would take them 2-3 years to replace Jackson up forward anyway. So regardless we'd have Jackson as a KPF for at least 3 years here due to the shit that went down in 2018.

That off season singlehandedly ****ed everything over. How much better would we look right now with Lachie Neale and Ben King.

My dad was talking to someone who is a close friend of Brennan Cox’s family - apparently he is keen to come home. Hopefully he is bullshitting but just reiterating what I have heard in case anyone is interested, would go some ways to explaining the effort he put in yesterday.
Per basically the man himself, he doesnt want to go anywhere

They set an unrealistic target of 2025. Realistically it would take a little longer than that. You draft one more KPF and you'll be right in that sweet spot in 2026-27.

Absolutely not. Jackson is a KPP but with 3 years development already. He's offering us about as much as a KPF drafted this year would. We are not one Ginbey away from a completed rebuild.
Jackson was not the mistake. Giving up two first and 2nd for him was the mistake.

Two first, with a 2nd back or a first and 2nd was more than enough.

Nope. They thought Angus was coming and he was until Melbourne offered him 6 fuc.king years.

If Angus came then no O’Meara. Angus plays inside and wing.

Given all the rumours last year, this would make a lot of things make sense. Gus would have suited us SO much better than JOM

I don’t think it’s a matter of having space this year, it’s a matter of list management strategy and how to keep together the core of the list they like. Just think when losing the other players they should have realised Acres needed to be kept. Someone needs a kick in the arse for thinking Hughes was anything for a bottom 10 depth player, particularly on the wing
With our outs though we were never in a position to challenge this year or next, and the club knows it. keeping acres would have made us a little bit better in 2023, but we need other wing options for when we will really challenge - NOD is one of them and we’re working on the other.

I think the club were very aware just how inexperienced we’d be this year and they know we’re waiting for the amiss, Johnson, Jackson’s etc to get a couple of years into them before we really are a top 6 side.

I think it’s why we spent so much time on match sim - trying to accelerate the fact this team will take time to gel. Don’t forget we’re even less experienced than the ‘tanking’ hawks, and the only players really missing are Fyfe, Chappy and tabs. 2 of those very unlikely to be here in 2025-27.

I actually would have loved to be a fly on the wall in that trading room. I wonder how much Lamb (Melbourne list manager) was just talking absolute shit about how good we are to Bell. "Cant let him go for that, you guys are going top 4 next year, we can see how good you are..." blah blah blah.

Insane they added MORE on top of two firsts for an uncontracted player, just **** me dead

That just makes the Jackson negotiations all the more infuriating. We should have TWO more seconds this year to play with, that's actually a decent hand to work with. Like I said in the post above, Lamb must have talked absolute bullshit to Bell in those chats. I'm still on board with trading for Jackson AND I think he looks good but **** me if I hate how pathetic they were in those trades. I'm not even being unrealistic in what I wanted being paying two firsts with a Melbourne 2nd coming back

Agree, he is looking rather expensive at this stage. i expect him to be good, but he’d need to be REALLY good to make the trade look like a win.

Good, we need to retain all the talent we can atm, stay patient and just build through the draft with what picks we have. You'd think there is no way he leaves but you just never know, I am still shocked to see Lachie Neale playing for another team (albeit that is probably on us and I don't think we be 'pushing' Brennan Cox out) and it seems like every team in the afl has an ex freo player at this point. As always action over words and we need to sign these blokes up for the long term, that's signs of commitment rather than saying they aren't leaving. Similar to the players/club talking about winning a flag, rather than say it, just get to work and do it, fans don't need to know that you are trying to win a flag, that should be the expectation every year. There's no shortcuts to winning a premiership and it takes a lot to go right, the last offseason is an example of us getting ahead of ourselves and moving away from what was working (i.e shift from drafting to trading, a sign they thought we were close), also felt the list management team had been drinking too much of their own bathwater, they thought Blake acres season was a fluke and didn't want to pay a fair price when they could have just signed him up for average wage, and could have signed logue at the start of the season for depth. Instead they look like fools a little bit, Jackson is going to be good but WHY did they bend over and hand the second to Melbourne, when there was literally zero incentive to do that, he is out of contract. Reckon its looking like a 2-3 year build to get the list back in shape, but one thing a lot of people should consider is that Tasmania will be coming in and those drafts will be compromised so I have no issues being crap for a little bit and letting the young blokes develop. In a couple of years provided we keep the talent on the list, and draft some skilful players the team is going to be incredible, a bit shit for the coach too I reckon he is gonna pay the price for poor list management, there's just not enough onfield experience/leadership - our captain hasn't even played 100 games.

PS. Yes I ranted on a little bit, but thought I would post my bit of 2 cents on the way the team is going at the moment (and I don't post here often), some of the reactions on here have been a good laugh, but everyone ends up coming back year on year, to support the club through thick and thin so who cares about the present anyway (in wins and losses), we aren't winning a flag this year or next or probably the year after. As shit as it is our best chance will come when guys like Andy brayshaw/serong/darcy are damn near 30, just like our 2013 grand final team, the top end experienced talent is just not there, which is because we recruited poorly under Ross in those successful seasons. JLO will go if we don't make finals next season, he will get another year, though there will be some other changes to the club at the end of this season I imagine (whoever was responsible for the decision making of the past offseason). That's it from me for now

We could replace the recruiting team and the coach, play everyone is the same position next year and move the ball the same way, with none of the players from the end of the year in the best 22 - win a lot and suddenly the new coach and recruiting team will be heroes.

The future for this squad is vastly better each season going forward.

Do you know any other team (maybe apart from Gold Coast) that has given up so much talent that is still playing AFL?
In no particular order:

Brad hill
Langdon
Neale
Lobb
Hogan
Sam Collins
Weller
Acres
Logue
Cerra.
Crozier
