Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

The KPF doesn't need to be elite. Someone at Tabs level is fine and maybe Treacy is that guy.

Listening to someone the other day (Wallsy I think) basically say that the Dees didn't really give Jackson a chance with their forward setup (it is ****house to watch) so we are hopeful his output might be half decent as a forward too.

Definitely need a small or medium forward he is a genuine 40-50 goal forward though. Sturt has it all to do and Doc only just got here.
Might've been Bell

In an interview with SEN WA Breakfast, Bell indicated the majority of Jackson’s time would be spent in the forward 50.

“It is interesting. We’ll definitely play him a large proportion forward,” Bell said.

“Clearly, he’s going to do some ruck work as well and maybe even some midfield, which we’ve spoken about.

“But he’ll spend a lot of time forward.”

“It is interesting statistically, he does win one-on-ones a lot as a forward,” Bell said.

“For a few different reasons - and look, far be it from me to criticise Melbourne with the way that they play given the success they’ve had - they do play when they go inside 50 quite a narrow sort of entry, they’ll go narrow to the pockets a lot and Luke did often find himself as that tall on the other side of the 50 if you like.

“He didn’t get used maybe as much as other clubs might look to use their key forwards. We’ll try and give him a lot of one on ones, we think he can mark it and kick some goals.”

Current out of contract players end of 2023:

Sam Sturt
Caleb Serong
Lachie Schultz [trigger for extension]
Nathan Fyfe
Michael Walters

Luke Ryan
Nathan Wilson
Joel Hamling
Liam Henry
Travis Colyer
Josh Treacy [elevation off the rookie list required]
Eric Benning
Karl Worner [potential +1 year on rookie list]
Sebit Kuek [potential +1 year on rookie list]
Josh Draper [potential +2 years on rookie list]
Conrad Williams [potential +2 years on rookie list]
Liam Reidy [potential +2 years on rookie list]

Bolded are the free agents.

Our top five oldest players are all out of contract:

Walters is the oldest listed player, followed by Colyer, Fyfe, Wilson then Hamling
What sort of compensation would the club get if Fyfe decided to go down the FA path?

So what's our current position in regards to our team list for 2023. I have it that 9 players have departed and we have just secured 7 new players. Does this leave us with about 2 more spots to fill ?

Did you include Seb Kuek?

It would depend on the money offered to him. If he is offered $850,000+ we'd get band one, potentially downgraded to band two for his age but I doubt it - it would be the biggest scandal of the year.

Melbourne’s forward line failure cost them another flag - they were good enough elsewhere. They missed McDonald dearly and Brown is basically done. The ruck rover role we have in mind for Jackson was never going to work at Melbourne as Petracca is the best ruck rover in the game.

I think that between Sturt, Corbett and Emmet we can sort that medium forward role next year.
I would be curious how good a fully fit Sam Sturt would be.

I want a Sturt or Corbett capable of playing 15 games next season and kicking 15-20 goals or even 25 goals.

Crazy to think our only available medium tall was Bailey Banfield and he is Essentially a big bodied depth or fringe midfielder

I’ve been on the Sturt bandwagon since he was drafted. I’m glad we signed him for next season as I think he has the talent to make it and kick those 15-20 goals. Up to him now.

Good medium forwards can cause mismatches and be a real headache. If both Sturt and Corbett deserve selection I'm ok with it. Be interesting to see how it pans out.

Well He has been unlucky with injuries. Only 22 years old, so he is still young enough to make a solid career here at the dockers.

The guy has talent. We all know he can do something, I was gutted be broke down early in 2022 when he kicked a few goals in a practice game.

we can all debate about the KPF situation....

given 2 choices would would rather one of these 2 options...

1. A very good KPF that can play 20-22 games a year and kick 60-66 goals a season or 3 goals a game.

or....

2. a couple of KPFs that play 20-22 games a year and kick 30-33 goals a season or 1.5 goals each a game.

It seemed like Option 2 was the direction freo were going when we had Rory Lobb and Matt Taberner.

Clearly option 1 is preferable

Amiss will become a 50 goal a year forward, but is likely to get around 30 next year (if he plays at least 20 games)
Tabs is a 40+ Goal a year player if he plays close to 20 games (big if)
Schultz, Frederick and Walters are 30 goal a year players.
We just need one (or combination of) Treacy, Sturt, Corbett, Jackson/Darcy or Emmett to step up to also be 30 goal players and we’ll be set.
