Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

We need quality midfielders desperately. Serong, Brayshaw and Aish are solid but the support cast don’t cut it. This is why we started this year so poorly.

JOM - 18.6ppg
Brodie - 17.7ppg (poor start to ‘23)
Henry - 15.8ppg (dropped)
Hughes - 14.6ppg

Compare that to last year when we weren’t even a great midfield but a lot better than our current crop.

Brodie - 26.8ppg
Mundy - 22.4ppg
Acres - 21.7ppg
NOD - 14.34ppg (16ppg excluding debut)

Need 2-3 more at least average mids. Trading Acres and picking up JOM was a mistake.
what is this ppg stat?

Not overly worried about inside mids for the best 22 tbh. We can't expect Johnson and Erasmus to come in and average 20 disposals. But they are two very talented youngsters.

I do look at Peel and see just Erasmus in the middle there and think we should probably have one or two on the list. Not sure I'd use high picks on this but it's probably something we need to address.

Probably need a winger if we can't find one from those already on our list as well tbh.

Driz will improve. And we've got Erasmus and Johnson and at least one of them will fill the need. It's just that we can't play them because we'll be too inexperienced according to our selectors. Long term we're fine though and the focus needs to be on finding quality forwards, particularly small and medium forwards.

Johnson, Ras, Brodie and Serong is enough inside grunt and size for a long time IMO. Need 1 or 2 players for some depth in the middle with 3rd round picks or mature age players that are stoked being on an AFL list and comfortable being depth.

Wings are trickier but making the move with Chapman solves a lot of issues if we think Draper can take his role. Also might need one if Henry leaves.

The draft last year sured up defensive depth so unless we are moving Chapman to the wing I hope we don’t touch it although a rookie project with a massive boot on them wouldn’t be the worst.

The forwards are going to be interesting. We have lots but not enough quality so hard decisions are going to have to be made on what we have already. It’s another reason I’m very pro trading for forward quality, it’s historically hard to find t ft or us and we don’t want more forward role players

No Brayshaw?

The ******* nerve on the Suns to supposedly ask for a future 2nd (especially one tied to North) and then play him in the VFL.

I’d still like him next year if nothing other than he’d be basically free and our wings are an issue but no one is going to lose sleep if he ends up at the Toast
Sums my thoughts on the matter. If he has cracked a sook about not getting to Freo then so be it. He was never a priority for mine. We need wingmen but there are some performing better in the state leagues when compared to Sharp.

Ya agree about sharp. If he doesn’t play for the suns this year he is in that “keeping my afl dream alive” mode and in no place to start dictating that he won’t play for team X or Y.
You go where ever the Fcuk will take you son and be bloody grateful for it

No KPFs between age of 22-29.
Taberner is 29
Then
Amiss is 20
Jackson is 21.
Treacy 20.

Drop Tabs and play Amiss/Treacy and the club admits it’s taking a step back.

Pathetic list management.

Don’t go after any B grade type to top up.
Himmelberg from Adelaide. Weideman from Melbourne.
I know they’re poor types however the experience gap is glaring.
In for a long 2023 as Amiss is miles from polished, Treacy hasn’t even proved anything at AFL level.
I seriously would go after himmelberg from the crows.

He is exactly the type of bloke we need: a tall forward that can be a 2nd ruck.

I would of rather of got him instead of Jackson.

Paying 2 1st rounders and a 2nf rounder for Jackson is nuts.

So tabs is from the 2012 draft and is aged 29.

Tracy is from the 2020 rookie draft and is aged 21. I still think he will kick 30-40 goals a season.

Amiss is 20 and from the 2021 draft. So much pressure on this kid.

Gutted we couldn't draft a decent tall forward from 2012-17 outside of tabs. Could of got Mitch McGovern over Connor Blakely in 2014 draft.

Had Apeness in that 2013 draft made it, he would be in his prime in 2023.

We aren't really close to the window though. Likely to be 3 and even 5 years away as we need 50-100 games into Amiss and other youngsters on the sidelines. Kids we draft now can still contribute.

And even if you want to go to trading, we have given away valuable currency. Lots of us on here did not want to give up our 2023 1st for Jackson. Whether he turns into the messiah or not is irrelevant. He was an uncontracted and unproven player and you shouldn't pay top dollar. Better performed players have been traded for far less.
Saying that.... Just look at the age of some of those players that played in that Elim final win last year.

A couple of 19 year Olds, a couple of 20 year Olds and 3 guys that are 21 years old.

So out of those 23 guys that played in that finals win last year, 7 of them were aged 21 or under. Would be frustrating going through Another era similar to under Chris Connolly coaching from 2002-7.

2022 was our 2003 but this time our 2022 side that finished 5th beat 8th.

Saying that. If we don't make Finals in 2023, I hope it's a spring board to make finals in 2024-5

Get both Himmelbergs. Think Harry From GWS is only 26 and a free agent end of this year.

Nick Larkey was taken with pick 73 in the 2016 ND and has played 75 games and kicked 130 goals. Mitch Lewis was pick 75 in the same draft.
They were in the same stage back in 2019 As Josh Treacy is now and we’re both fringe players in the AFL then.
Both sets of fans have had frustrations with these guys but their clubs pushed through and both paid the 50 game development tax an a key forward. Either would easily be the number one KPF at Fremantle right now.
So all is not lost Joao when it comes to not having a first round pick next year.
However you have to play the likes of Amiss and Treacy for decent spells to accelerate their development IN THE AFL. There simply is no other way. Peel is not the answer.
The development of Josh Traecy is an interesting one.

He played 13 games and kicked 10 goals in his debut year in 2021. Gutted we missed finals. Had we beaten Essendon in docklands in 2021, instead of 11th, we would of taken Essendons 8th spot.

Then comes 2022. Plays 4 games and kicked 1 dockers goal in 2022.

Think about that. He should of got another 8-10 dockers games in 2022. But it didn't happen?

Why? Was he injured? Or was it more of a fact we were winning games and settled with tabs and Lobb up front as the talks.

So it's 2023. Lobb got traded and tabs is injured. That means chances for Tracy and Amiss you think

Serious question - do people think Frederick will still be B22 in 12-24 months?

He has barely improved as a footballer since debut.

Being athletic and disciplined isn't enough.
I think 🤔 he can be best 22 in 12-24 months.

He should be based on his 2022 forward line form.

That was a solid goal contributions from the smalls last season: Schulz kicked 30 goals, Frederick kicked 28 goals and Walters kicked 25 goals

He had a couple injuries & glandular fever

Freddy is already best 22 easily. This kid can be anything. Wait till the penny finally drops and he understands fully his superpowers. watch out.
