No doubt weiters poor form or lack of communication or whatever it is would also be having an impact but Im more concerned at the punching the ball when he could mark, and trying to mark when he should punch...and when he has the ball in hand he sometimes looks very indecisive about what to do next.

Could also be something about instructions on how to move ball out of our defence.....maybe he doesn't get it or its not being communicated to him effectively or others around him are not following game plan which causes some confusion for him and as a result he slows down to make sense of the situation.
he's been horrid and that's being nice. Surprised that the media hasn't been swallowing up his poor season and to that end I suspect he's suffering a touch from mental illness (which is indicative of his demeanour, form and confidence). The other day on SEN one of the journos mentioned something along the lines of Clarko etc and said they won't be pushing of publishing stories as due to it falling under his mental health... so seems journos now are being forced to consider the mental impact on those clearly suffering and are holding off writing or being critical towards those suffering.

Weird list management. I don't really see Pitto playing in the 1s by 2025. I'd have hoped his replacement would be playing, so a 4 yr deal is somewhat queer (by definition, not by slur).

I wonder if he's traded in some salary level for length and security. I.e. 300k per year over 4 yrs vs 450k per yr over 2. Maybe there was some give and take there from the club and Pitto.

Even if he isn’t best 22 a backup ruck is probably going to cost ~$300k anyway. I’m hoping it’s that sort of money over 4years with incentives added.

Just for its and giggles, what would we get from West Coast for Cripps, Fisher and McGovern? Pick 1 and ?

Cripps - pick 1 but becuase we are also giving them Fisher and McGovern, we would agree on getting just a 2nd rounder if they took all 3 😜

(seriously - cripps wouldnt even get you pick 1, let alone adding in two bog average players)

That package enough wouldn't be to get pick 1 on its own, esp with Cripps in a career worst season.

Our defence will look much better IMO if we can free up Weiters to play the Moore interceptor role.
Moore has the speed strength ,agility and height to play that interceptor while taking the biggest best fwd .. JW and Moore are miles apart .. JW more of a mcgovern type maybe even a lever if he lost a few kgs lever probably covers the ground better

IMO we would need to give them Cripps, 2 first round picks and possibly Motlop.

If Cripps wasn’t included in the deal it would be 3 first round picks and Motlop.

McGovern and Fisher have almost no trade value.

Thinking they would throw in a good veteran as a salary dump. We'd use Cripps money.

He wouldn't want to go west, but Harry McKay is about the only player we could trade that (is arguably expendable) could come close to fetching us pick 1.

If Harry's erratic season continues, I definitely believe his name will start popping up in potential trade discussions.

Carlton coach Coach Michael Voss is adamant the decision to sign ruckman Marc Pittonet for the next four years doesn’t mean in-demand young tall Tom De Koning is out the door.

De Koning hasn’t played at AFL level since Round 5, but Voss said the big man would “come under strong consideration” to face the Swans at the SCG on Friday night.
The 23-year-old is out of contract at the end of 2023 and has put off talks, with other clubs including Geelong and St Kilda believed to be chasing him for next season.

On Wednesday, the Blues confirmed Pittonet, 26, had re-signed until the end of 2027.

If we can't find a spot for TDK on our list or in our side at the moment, with the form of SOS, Mcgovern and a few others at the moment, I think it says a bit more about our club than it does of Tom. If TDK wants to leave, fine, but we should be doing our best to keep him if he is keen to stay.

How ridiculous...

We sign Pitto and straight away these clowns jump to conclusions that it means TDK is out the door...

Are we the only club with a couple ruckman on the list?

4 years is too long though imo...

Why is Lloyd still employed
Austin does the contracts as list manager doesnt he? Have to question the lengths of a few of his deals now...

Plenty stick the boot into SoS deals.

Pitto on face value, 4 yrs is surprising. Hopefully on min chips, as saving grace.

In general Pitto as depth is fine but suggests TDK is going.

l believe the media like most Carlton supporters are trying to figure how we have given Pittonet a 4 year deal, we seemingly are handing out long term deals to anyone these days.

Had a good look at our VFL team and the AFL team this week and here are my observations.

Player development could not be any worse.

Mirkov and O'Keefe can ruck and can only yet both had significant forward time.

DeKoning played solely ruck. Despite the fact that our senior team is crying out for a genuine forward/ruck. Despite the fact that it's his forward craft that he needs to work on the most. Anyone with half a clue would know that Mirkov and O'Keefe should have taken ruck duties and DeKoning should have split his time between full forward and CHF. That way he can come into the team and replace Silvagni.

Dow. Dow is spending all his time on the ball. Last season he spent time forward and did that well. This season he has spent no forward time at all. What our AFL team needs desperately is a quick midfielder who can go forward. Why not develop Dow this way? Watch him go to another club and do well in this role.

Lemmy. He gets left at full forward and struggle, hardly touches the ball. Throw him back, throw him in the ruck, get him involved in the play. This is not player development.

It's not player development education players to play just one position and one position only.

List makeup
Too many players who can't play football at all. Mirkov should not be on an AFL list at all. Who made that decision? VFL list yes but not AFL.

There are no small forwards in our VFL side who can come in. Durdin and Motlop should not be playing but there is no one to replace them with. Really disappointing how we did not draft a small forward last year. We need to go harder at forwards.

Our Best 22 for this year

Newman Weitering Young
Saad McGovern Docherty
Acres Cripps Hollands
Motlop Silvagni Owies
Durdin Curnow McKay
Pittonet Cerra Walsh
Kennedy Hewett Cottrell Curnow

Backline
Top end of that team is out of form. Intercept players are underperforming due to poor pressure in the middle. Docherty spending too much time on the ball. Newman, as good as he is is too slow. Young is borderline. Weitering and McGovern are half the players they were last season, again probably due to poor pressure up the ground.

Midfield
Cripps is a big slow extractor who should be feeding the other players around him but he isn't. He's trying to clear it with kicking too often. He's quality, have to have him in there. Hewett was cheap for a reason, he would be good if we didn't have players like that or it was 5 years ago when the game was more congested, his running and kicking don't fit our needs. Same goes for Kenney, was recruited when the game was more congested and we thought we needed another player like Cripps. Cerra and Walsh are decent runners but don't position properly and provide the overlap run they should. Acres and Hollands have been good. Hollands is still very raw but for his first year he's been good, helps he's number 2 winger with Acres in the team. Ed Curnow is more of the same for us. What you would not give to have Judd in that side.

Forward Line
Two very poorly coached tall forwards there. Neither have a clue how to negate intercept players like Moore. I don't rate any of the smalls. Durdin tries hard but he's stopped kicking goals. Owies does kick goals but he's bloody slow. Motlop does neither, he's nowhere near fit enough. Silvagni is not good enough overhead for the third tall role and too slow for a small role and not strong enough in the ruck. Our forward line is two talented tall forwards who are poorly coached surrounded by slow journeymen.

Solution
Get Dow into the team as a forward/mid. If it fails recruit.
Get DeKoning into the team as a forward/ruck. If it fails recruit.
Get some bloody decent assistant coaches in.
Replace Newman with Kemp and start looking towards the future. Or Just get Kemp in there some how!
Need to hit the recruitment path hard for quick forwards. Collingwood grabbed Bobby Hill and have got him playing really well. Get players like that.
Another quick Jet in defence. Saad can't be the token fast guy down there.
Some speed and run in the middle.
Work on having players front and centre when we go long to talls.
Work on how our team negates intercept defenders.
Move past Newman, Silvagni, Hewett, Kennedy and if our small forwards don't improve then Durdin, Owies, Motlop as well. Those three IMO need to get fitter, Durdin needs to move into the middle. Would not be at all surprised if Motlop is moved to half back at some stage in his career.
Need an assistant coach who was a good small forward.

Weitering has played on the opposition best forward while intercepting plenty. In round 1 he made it look like Lynch was the defender - just marked everything while Lynch was forced into a spoiling role all game (or at least for the first 3 quarters). Just because he's had a down patch doesn't mean we should be re-writing history.
