The Pitto melts are hilarious. People need to take a vacation to Hawaii or something if signing one of our only ruck prospects and current number 1 ruck is causing this much angst and anger.

I love how people in one instance say I like the decision of 4 years , he is the number 1 ruckman but aslong as he signed for nothing.. maybe he signed for a 500k a year , who knows with this club !!! 2 years was more then enough … and if he walked get another backup.. every year we have players we can’t delist because they are under contract the following year .. lob and Martin this year , plowman and Dow last year.

Maybe best to play within his limits. Handball should be his first choice when passing. Let the better ball uses kick when required.

Crazy decision. very limited player. Carlton has become the club of choice if you are no good/injury prone and want a long contract.

If Pittonet said to the club he wants a longer deal or he's going to look at offers elsewhere the club would be completely irresponsible rebutting his interests.
Really the only thing that makes any sort of difference is how much we signed him on. 4 year deals for a player like Pitto generally means the player has accepted less to stay for longer term job security.

This is a true storm in a teacup scenario being driven only due to the anger and frustration at our on field performances.

His around the ground involvement and marking definitely needs to improve.

He is 8th in the league for avg. hitouts which is a fair effort considering his first 2 games he only played a half and about 5 min vs. Adelaide.

Of those top 8 rucks he's 8th for avg. disposals and marks which is the big problem with Pitto.

Equal 6th for avg. clearances and equal 5th for tackles isn't bad.

His biggest strength is his hitouts to advantage. Best in the league in terms of % likelihood of a hitout won going to advantage.

I would have preferred to sign him for 3 years but it gets down to $. If he's on really cheap deal and TDK or someone relegates him to 2nd banana then happy days. He'd be a brilliant backup.

TDK might leave then what do we have but seriously can you see the game slowing down to accommodate pitto… just to the naked eye the game is getting faster and pitto is slow and lumbering .. now add 3-4 years … with good players I get the 3 plus years but pitto or fisher to 2025 , lob got 2 years after as we recruits 2 wingers …. Every year we do it

Pitto averages 7 games a season across his career and just over 10 games a year whilst at the Blues, to lock in a player like that for 4 years imo is irresponsible, a players form can change pretty quick and A player like Pitto doesn’t have to drop much form to become a liability.

I'm not a fan of the length - downfalls can occur quick. Fisher has dropped out of our best 22 due to form yet is contracted for another 2 years. Williams has had 2 injury interrupted seasons yet is contracted for another 3 years.

What it does say though is that we're not planning to spend much draft capital to upgrade the ruck position in the next few years. This is reasonable given our need to bring in young talent and bolster other areas of the ground. Locking in Pitto means we're hopefully not left scrambling and can stick to a plan.

Agree completely with the start but have a different take on Pitto- I think it could actually allow us to chase a top tier ruckman as they have known quantity locked in with a solid performer for a set amount (which is assumed as on the cheaper side)
We won’t turn to shit if we do chase top tier & they then get injured.
Either way the strategy seems solid & it’s great it can seen a few different ways as a positive

I don’t see Pitto being very sought after by other clubs, so even if the $$$ are low, it still seems unnecessary to me. Fish currently has a 4 year deal and now isn’t best 22, it’s a big risk for someone like Pitto and I see ruckman regularly available for not much outlay.

If he's our backup in a couple of years it means we've secured a meaningful upgrade and we have handy backup in the position, doesn't sound bad at all..
It's doubtful that he'll be getting paid top dollar so I don't understand the angst.

At the very worst we have long term backup. I mean Andrew Phillips has had a decade long career.
