Should have a heap of lost spots available once cuts occur:
LOB
fisher
Plowman
Young
Curnow
Dow
Honey
Philp
All gone.

Who love to pick up
Hollands

LoB has a contract for a year and can't see him being traded.

Fisher has a two year contract so would be up to us to trade him. I reckon if Norf offering him 5 years we would be fair asking for a second.

Young has 2 more years on a three year deal and isn't going anywhere.

I'd like to see Philp given a rookie spot, hasn't really had a run at it with injury but was a late first round pick and did have some moments in the VFL before copping mostly collision injuries.

Marchbank is out of contract and I think he will be retained. But surely we consider his body issues for the last few seasons also :/. I wouldn't lose sleep if he is moved on and we persist with Kemp and Cowan personally. Talent is there but I can't see him ever playing a full season :/.

Why are we so driven for Charlie to play full forward. He has the engine to play further up the ground- wing/ HF driving the ball in. He has leg speed and drills the ball in low and long. What a great asset to Harry and the other forwards. He was murdered as FF yesterday- me needs to run and run some more. He could kick the ball low and long from the wing to the top of the goal square regularly with great speed and low trajectory. I reckon a greater asset out there rather than being confined by the goal square and immediate surrounds.
Because he’s the best inside 50 player in the competition? Had a very poor finals series, but all season he was elite at creating goals out of just about anything that went his way. Reckon the season may have just been a bit too long for him this year. Excited to see how he can get even better this off season

I think they will try and trade LOB for nothing and part pay his wage. There are a lot of wings ahead of him and he should seek other opportunities.

Wouldn’t shock me to see Philp either re-rookied or do preseason and get a sign on spot.

Fish and Dow to be traded for a 2nd and 3rd probably.

Honey Plow Ed gone. Williams back off LTI list. I would keep S Durdin as continued insurance as Young isn’t a reliable backup unfortunately.

Guess that leaves 5 list spots to fill. One goes to E Hollands. Guess we take 3 draft picks and 1 rookie other than Philp.

Expecting a very bland off season trading and recruiting wise.

The list improvement will come from within.

l believe each year you need to find players, we need to find another 3-4 players via free agency/trading or get back into the draft.

Binns/Cowan & Lemney will hopefully take another step, most of our key players are at the peak of their career now

We're already +3 on our list with adding Cincotta, O'Keefe and one of the two Irish.

So if we trade/retire/delist 6 players out, we'd have 3 list spots.

I wonder if Williams best spot is back in defence.

Acres, Hollands, Cottrell and Binns the wingers.

Could possibly move Docherty back to defence as a General Defender with Saad, Boyd, Cincotta, etc. providing the run from halfback.

Possibly see Williams as that medium forward that can go into the middle throughout the game like De Goey and Greene.

I’m sure we’ll get a better idea over summer.

What's our primary need? Might only be based on finals but we need a quick half forward. Not sure if E Hollands or Gresham is or can be that tho. Martin isn't quite that role.
Imho outside speed, but more importantly, two way runners is the main priority.
Williams will come in to the side but he could play a few different roles while they rebuild his match fitness.
A full preseason for Cuningham would be great to see. Work with Cottrell to take his game even further, a good preseason for Hollands and Binns, etc - so the internal improvement is there.

Taking the blue glasses off for a minute, I think if we're playing Doc in every single game next year then we're in trouble. He was right outta tickets yesterday but he wasn't the only one.

In: Williams for Cincotta
Binns?

Targets: Harmes? Jordan?
Best 22 KP Defender

If we can add Williams off half back or a wing once he gets fitter, add Harmes/Jordan type, see further progression from Hollands and Binns, and add a quality defender that would allow McGovern to rebound as well then I think we'll add a good mix.

Could we juggle the payment structure to fit in Doedee somehow?

For the first time in a long time can see the makings of a team capable of playing well consistently . So we don’t need to spend all our capital trying to win a flag next year.
The aim should be to keep improving the list so we don’t have to go through another major rebuild (5+ years in the wilderness) ever again.

Still a few good players short and some of our guys still need to improve.

I love Harry but we can’t afford another year of shithouse kicking. Fix it, if Levi can so can you.

Pace and precision is what's needed.

Hopefully a few of the answers lie within...Williams, Binns, a full season from Cuningham, even Philp if he gets a run at things.

And a fair bit of work to do in the forward line, I think with planning moreso than personnel. We lapsed back into bad habits in recent weeks.

Our areas of improvement will come through development from here on. We’ve got the superstar core, we just need to keep building around them with draftees or bargain free agents.

Hollands has been a revelation, and will only get better as he completes more preseasons and puts in size. Binns has had a sensational year developing in the twos, reckon he will be putting his hand up to be a best 22 player next season. Cincotta, Kemp, Fog and Cunners all completely changed how we played throughout the season, while Cowan got some valuable senior team games this year which will only help him.

I believe we could reload next season with a similar profile (while adding E. Hollands and a couple of draftees, and losing Dow and Fish, and a few delistings). Reckon we have found our way to play that will win us 16+ games consistently for the next few seasons. Just have to keep developing and improving incrementally.

Very bright times ahead for this group

Which actually sounds about right. Fish, Plow, Ed, Dow, Honey, Philp off the primary list.

We'd need to promote 3 from the rookie list to the primary list, unless big Durds also gets delisted or LOB finds a new home - which means we'd then only have to promote 2 to balance the books.

But basically, that would mean that we'd have 3 or 4 spots available - 1 or 2 trades/FA, and 2 or 3 draftees.

I tend to think that with the Dow/Fish trades, we'll be looking for a 2023 pick to improve our draft hand, and a future pick for points for the Campo twins. That way, we can take two picks in this year's National Draft, and potentially use a future pick for trade.

You don't give up players with that much talent, especially in a position of need, for nothing.
He's gotten his body right. It won't be a big contract. We don't need a list spot that badly.

We need to promote Mirkov and Boyd, unless they change the rules, but with Ed's retirement we don't need to promote any others, we would have 6 Cat A.

Oh yeah, I forgot that Ed was re-rookied this year. Which means that unless they change the rules, we may only have 3 primary list spots available if we have to promote both Mirkov and Boyd.

So potentially we only include 1 through the trade period and 2 in the ND.

If there was one type of player I would add to our side it would be a DeGoey, Petracca type. That burst from the middle is what we need
So you want to add another top 10 player in the game to the best midfield in the game? If we’re playing that game, I would love a Gary Ablett Snr or Wayne Carey type forward to complement Harry and Charlie

That’s a silly response that isn’t necessary. If you want to debate reasons, players etc great but this stuff achieves nothing positive and I’m not interested

Sure, the flipside is that at CHF - he may just be the best player in the comp.

I would pay out Mirkov and take the extra list spot.

He is no closer to getting a senior game than he was two years ago.

It was worth the punt as he is a great athlete but I think we’d be better off fast tracking Huddy in the 2s and taking a tall utility at the draft.

Firmly believe it's time to prioritize good ball users, it's what separated Hawthorn from the pack during their reign, Richmond on the other hand specialised on hacking the ball forward. Both systems worked for multiple flags, how about a hybrid version, precision from defence and wings with a manic forward system pushing the ball into the scoring zone. I'd play H up the ground permantly between half forward and the wing, effectively frees up the forward space for Charles and JSOS to roam...with the likes of Jack M, Mot's, and the yet to be landed small pressure forward (Harmes?? it's time that surname came home)...
We have a good record retaining WA boys from all the way back to Syd Jackson and Kenny Hunter; Tholstrup is exactly the prototype player we must get, he's already being compared to Zurhar, added to Harmes we're toughening up, and that's what we don't have, a hard-arsed MF.
