Steele vs Miller vs Macrae

Steele is value - but, he has had an interrupted pre-season
Miller - not a value pick, and early bye
Macrae - too many WBDs with Bont (Mclean & possibly Bruce) already?
Not to derail the thread too much, but . . . there is no way that Macrae and Bont and a couple of cheapies are too many WBD

It may be the right amount

It might be not enough

But it isn’t too many

Tarryn Thomas took kick ins today in a 4 x 15 min qtr match sim playing off hack back. Very Burgoyne esque at times.

Cunnington played most of the match in the middle in a midfield of LDU, Simpkin with Phillips as the fourth mid, who then changed sides at half time.

LDU was imperious.
TT still sitting in 9% of teams

Higher than I expected given his issues with the law in the preseason

What was the consensus on midpricers in the brave new world of forfteen billion trades:
I know it depends on the quality, but in general the maximize upside bit worked best, correct?
Mashing the trade button early and often was definitely the way to go, iirc.
Bowes, Hopper, H Clark, T Thomas, Stupid Sexy Flanders, probably a few besides, plenty of options to choose from / landmines to step in.

I think the interesting challenge of a midpricer team is how much injury risk to take on.

Some of the greatest rises can come players who returned to fitness, but have too many of them and your team will suffer from half scores, forced trades, impossible bye scenarios etc.

Yep - stuff the injuries concerns :straining:

I'm still missing a few (Bowes, Cameron, Cunners, TT), but happy to go with these for now

MPM all the way baby!

Who will you be trading Zilliams to when he does a hammy in round 2?
LOL - you have to try some different players to make it more fun

Zilliams is training Ikon park down :D

If Jelly can play all games in 2022, Zilliams can play all games in 2023 :fourleaf:

Bloody great isn't it!!!!!!!!

I've Yeo, Hopper and Allen as my mid-pricers at the moment plus a moving feast of sub 200k players who are 2nd year or older. Also 2 speculative keepers 450k +, Richards and Cameron. Bullish on Richards, on the way up.

No Fyfe or Thomas but will watch Cunnington closely. Would need to downgrade a keeper to get him, probably Cogs.

Noticed reports that Johannison was streaming out of defence at Doggies training, which might be a worry for Richards' scoring but will wait and see the pre-season matches. At sub 300k he might be a tempting F3, especially as he will get DPP if he plays as a defender. Would still have to rejig my structure to get him.

Quaymor for the Pies looks muscled up and could develop in to a dashing defender like Saad but is awkwardly priced. Can't see him making 150k this year but could be a very reliable scorer with suitable age and injury profile. If Yeo has a training blip may take him.

If Bowes crack mids I’ll strongly consider at that price. Not a Quaynor fan for SC at the price.

I agree he had terrible scores at the back end of the season but he is primed to break out, and SC favours these types of players. On reflection price is too high.

As a former Bowes owner you're welcome to him. Could only score well when taking the kick-ins, was below average as a defender, and the few times he was given midfield minutes couldn't get a hand on it. Would be surprised if he was consistently best 22.

I’ve actually found another midpricer
Zilliams - forgotten SC player, but 2023 he may be back to his best - here’s hoping :straining:
Had a look at him. I wouldn’t really know better than a Blues supporter, but I figure greater midfield minutes for Docherty may result in Williams playing deeper in defence and possibly taking on a more defensive (as in shutdown) role in the side?

Zilliams doesn’t really know what a defensive role is :p

The key to him is general fitness, if fit - he’ll be used as a distributor IMO

It'd be the opposite actually. Without Doch there we will look to attack through Williams at every opportunitty.

I agree with you

Gov Saad and Williams have been generating all our drive at training. Marchbank, Newman Plowman and Kemp have been the more lockdown deep types.

Williams been in my team since day 1, hasn't missed a session and looks as fit as he did in his prime GWS years. Hopefully gets a good run with luck

If he stays uninjured, I'd back Williams to average 100+. It's a big if though.

IDK if I've lost the plot or not but Sheed was my first picked and is clearly the best mid pricer in that 300k range for mine. I rate him more than Fyfe and Hopper.

This is his 11th season in the AFL and he's never played a full season. Averages about 14 games a season (incl finals).

He's averaged 100+ once (101 in 2019)

At $425k he's got to be a keeper, and that's a tough price if (lol) he gets injured. I owned him in 2019 and I swear he had the band aid on Fan Footy about 5 mins into every single game. Seems like one of those blokes that can't play with niggles.

It's a massive IF. You have to look at him like Fyfe, or English, or Yeo. Start them if you like, but understand they will get injured so have a plan as it could happen anytime.
